  • We got permission from Amarillo National Bank to take this video. Big Thanks to them. KDK had an idea to see what the sirens sound like from up high. Dad called a friend that works there (Thank you so much Sharon) and she got it all taken care of. So out of school early and to downtown we went. The building has 16 floors then we climed up a ladder to the roof. Great View! Sorry about the wind noise but thats the Texas Panhandle. Sirens heard are: 3 2001's, 2-3 Cyclones, 1 Thunderbolt, 2 STL-10s and maybe more. Have no clue what we will do next.

      I think so too. Wish that 2001 wasn't so close behind us. But it is what it is. Now all of the old sirens are gone. Amarillo is covered by 2001's and 508's. Just not the same. Thanks for the comment!

    There is a P-15 about 1 mile + behind us in the video. The 2001 that is close dictated that we go to the south side of the roof. That is probably what you are hearing. There is only one Banshee and it is several miles away.

    • @kdksiren
      @kdksiren  4 года назад +2

      Well, I think it should be "had" the best combination. They are replacing all the old ones pretty quick. Only a couple of TBolts left. SD-10's are going along with the STL-10's. Cyclones are still up but seem to be scheduled for replacement in the next few yrs. 2T'22's are going as well. 2001's and 508's are the norm now. Actually the 508's are going up everywhere. Sad. But lots of videos to remember them though. Thanks!

    Your right about the Texas Sky! You can really see forever. Best of luck at Tech. Maybe you can get a recording of the sirens around the college. What do you think? I have a cousin that will graduate there this year. We go down there every so often. Lubbock is a pretty good place to be, albeit no sirens in the city.

    It sounds like the Thunderbolt we're hearing is a 1000T, and there might be a 9/12 port siren of some type being heard too.

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  14 лет назад

    Hey Jae! It does sound single tone. Look at our video of the downtown T-bolt on the ground. This is that siren. At 20 sec. it says 1000 on the label, but at 55 sec. the top of the chopper head says 1000T. They may have changed heads or whatever, but I agree it sounds like a old 1000. It has since been sent to another city (who knows where) that was in need of a siren. We just based it off of the chopper embossing. Thanks!!!

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  14 лет назад

    @CarnelProd666 It is also a 1000T. There are several still in operation here and they all seem to produce the same sound. Just that some turn different directions. Guess the rotator motor is wired different to cause that.

    No, it's not there. Really miss the sound of the old T-Bolt too!! That 2001 just doesn't sound like it belongs there. But, we were told that it was donated to another town (don't know which one) as they needed a siren. Glad to know that it will still be running.

  • @kdksiren
    @kdksiren  13 лет назад

    @Coasterintheyard It kinda seems that way but actually they all come on at the same time. Its just that they are a long ways off and it takes a while for the sound to reach the video point. Was really cool to hear. Just wish the wind wasn't blowing. Around here, its rare that the wind doesn't blow!

    That would be a T-bolt 1000T that is a mile or more away, towards the right in the video. It's near a water tower on Western St and 6th. It's kinda hard to identify all the different ones heard up there.

    The nearest 2T22 is near Westgate Mall on the western edge of the city. The wind was blowing from that direction, but it is really a long ways away. We have found only 2 here. There may be more though. Thanks!

    @patmix You can hear many different sirens. Some High and some Low pitched. There are about 90 on the entire system. Many are in the outline county areas that are heavily populated. Not sure what you mean in the second question, but they are here due to severe storms that pass through. Tornados. They keep buying new ones as the city expands. You can check out all of the different ones on our home page. There are many different ones. Thanks!!!!

    Cyclones are still the best siren ever made by far. They sound totally different from a distance, too. Up close you could really hear the two tones. From a distance they are mixed together and kind of sound like a "metal trashcan". That's the first object that comes to mind when I hear one from a distance. At the end when it said the callsign and who they were, it said 21:00 hours. That's 9PM at night!
