Hi there, some of the organ pairs in TCM are related more to function, but for the Small Intestine and Heart it is more related to a channel relationship. (They both have internal pathways that link with the other organ for example). There is also a connection on the psychological level - the Small Intestine is responsible for clear judgement. The Heart also plays a role in this as it determines overall mental capacity/clarity. Hope that helps!
