Yeah, the walk up to the Peace Pagoda from the other side is KILLER! Those steps are nothing! Awesome views over the lake though. I think I was close to death at several points. I did do it in the mid afternoon about 2 weeks ago (in the pre-monsoon) so about 32c and 90% humidity. Your neck may well have done you a favour...
