Love how you just take action and get going planting them one after another. Eventually they will all grow and complement each other beautifully. Can be challenging to find the right shrubs and get the right position for them. Thanks for sharing👍🏾
I just bought this plant today at Home Depot. I also have tall canopy trees with quite a bit of shade. So I will find the sunniest part of my yard which will be 3-5 hours of sun and see how it does.
I have 6 weigela in my yard and a lot of deer! They have never bothered them! So I think you’ll have good luck in your front yard! Such a pretty bush…one of my favorites! I think you will have enough sun for flowers…I have one in part to all shade and it is very happy!
So happy you are extending the bed. Really like your ideas about the results your looking for and your flexibility on how to get them. I don't have a weigela, but they have grabbed my attention for the last couple of years when I see how beautiful they are in the garden centers. Luckily for me, you are putting one in now. It may be a deciding factor of whether I fit one into my garden next season. The "part sun" and "part shade" has always been a little confusing to me. When you talked about the actual times of day and related it to the amount of sunlight for the new weigela, it helped me to understand it a little more. Perhaps you can expand on that subject in some future video. Truly love your videos.
I have this plant in my "to plant" pile. I'm inspired now to get to it. BTW if you haven't tried milorganite for the deer, I highly recommend it. I only apply twice a year and a bag lasts me a long time. My hostas and other plants are untouched and we have many deer.
A few ways to apply from my experience. Sprinkle around the perimeter of the plant (it is a fertilizer), put in a can or shallow container and put in around the plant or out of site (the scent is the deterrent), finally for trees you can make packets out of old nylon and hang on branches out of sight. This has worked really well for me. Unfortunately it doesn't do a darn thing for groundhogs which apparently aren't nearly as picky as deer.
It does smell awfull, but it it did help deter rabbits from hostas for may be a month. The downside- it is a fertilizer but the wrong one for blooming plants. Think it has mostly nitrogen in it. I got huge leaves and very few if any blooms! I was told bloodmeal also deters rabbits but again, bloodmeal is mostly nitrogen.
Thanks for all the info on using milorganite. More foliage on my hostas not a problem, no blooms on my perennials 😟. I'll have to think this one through some more. Putting in something and hanging it around may be an answer to putting it directly into the garden.
I also live in BMore and follow Jim at HortTube and Jenny at Creekside. I'm slowly experimenting with different types of shrubs and perennials. I did cardboard/newspaper lasagna method and it helped a lot with the poor draining clay soil we have. I can get you tons of cardboard boxes and newspaper if you need some! Looking forward to watching your progress!
It is going to be so beautiful! Don't forget to spray that beauty, Jenny! I don't have the same variety and have mixed experience with weigelas. The small white one (white prince??) got badly harassed by creatures in my front yard and had to be moved into the rabbit -proofed fenced back yard where it is now thriving. The large (red prince?) was planted way before the rabbit gang took over the neighborhood and is not bothered at all... And deer ignore it when they show up in the winter.
Dang Jenny, you are a beast...out there in the damp and cool weather still planting...I'm ashamed of my housebound cowering self (in Virginia Beach). I planted my first weigela (Sonic Bloom) this past summer; I'll see how I like it. New border is starting to take shape and looking good.
Hey there. New subscriber. I’m in North Jersey zone 6. Moved to our current home 18 months ago. I have two huge beautiful Weigela shrubs on the east side of my property. Just trying to learn a bit more about this plant. I can visualize how your new garden bed will look. Well done!
Love your attitude about moving plants. It's hard to know where they will be happy. In Texas almost everything needs some shade during the hot summers. They would also like air-conditioning.
Wine & Roses is a gorgeous shrub, especially in early spring with the pink blossoms. I loved mine until the deer ate it down to a nub in my zone 7 garden, ultimately killing it. Hope you have better luck with yours!👍
Yep. In Minneapolis, I finished planting shrubs two or three weeks ago. Tools have been stored for the season. I'm still cleaning up my gardens because we are experiencing an unusually warm fall which I'm sure you've heard. 😉
Jenny I just bought one of the wine and roses my tag says 5-7 tall and wide. I was wondering now after purchasing if it lost its foliage during the winter. Oops you were right on the size I must have confused it with something I almost bought 😍 it’s planted to muggy here in NC today
If we are watching we know how to envision with you! That's a gardener, optimistic & always visualizing & hoping for the future 😀 Also in MD, planting one of these today! I planted 3 Blue Muffins last year, did you ever get blue berries on yours? I am still looking for a pollinator.
The only thing that I found that killed the wild garlic other than digging is liquid drain opener. Then I replace the soil with new and re seed and vola no garlic.
Or was it just the fact you removed the soil that had the bulbs? Then you could skip the chemical treatment. I use Roundup, but I just paint the concentrate on stumps.
May be they were trying to rejuvenate them? Sure looks ugly. They could have just cut them down to the ground if unable to remove completely this season. Have to rely only on yourself not to have any eye sores, thats for sure!

Your garden is going to look spectacular, next spring! You are doing a good job! Your property is beautiful!
It is going to look so nice in spring and the years to come.
These are beautiful shrubs and so vibrant Jenny your going to love it 💕
You are doing an excellent job of planting and making your yard gorgeous. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Bought 6 of this shrubs today and the contrast it provides against green shrubs is stunning 😊 thank you for the video
Oooh, sounds lovely!

How do you apply the milorganite, I'm intrigued? I too have deer a plenty and would love more options than the spray and granules.
I've had a long-forgotten bag in my garage for years. I wonder if it would deter other pests...rabbits, squirrels.

Love the idea of taking the shovel and going around the base so you know exactly the size of the pot area you need to use. You are doing a great job
nice channel stumbled on it searching for Weigela...subscribing :)
I love the idea of a mixed shrub border! I wish I had room for one but, since I don't, I'm going to enjoy yours!

I have one (bought as a quart on amazon) and so far it hasn't done much...hoping the spring will wake it up
hello my friend, excited to garden with me

Yes, mine lost its foliage in the winter. I hope you like yours!
@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden I’m excited for it to bloom guess I will love yours first. 😍
I am new here, what do you spray your shrubs with if you don’t want the deer to eat it?
If we are watching we know how to envision with you! That's a gardener, optimistic & always visualizing & hoping for the future 😀 Also in MD, planting one of these today! I planted 3 Blue Muffins last year, did you ever get blue berries on yours? I am still looking for a pollinator.
I got a tiny sprig of berries, which the deer promptly ate!!!!!
@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden
Oh no... There's no hope for mine either then because the deer at my house are rascals too! 🤷♀️
Hi Jenny, how about limbing-up the trees so more sun can filter through
Sounds like her house is the biggest obstacle. 🥴

I hope your stump owning neighbors aren’t like mine. 5 years later and those stumps would still be sitting there. Yews are my most hated plant.
