- The title specifies human history because a few elephants and rhinos might squat more than Ray. Maybe.

Make sure to check the timestamps in the description. I didn't use chapters on the timeline of the video itself, since I'd rather keep the timestamps very specific (too wordy for chapters). You can jump to whatever question you find juicy.
Like we ain't gonna watch whole video multiple times xD
💛
if Mark Henry ever had a docudrama movie done on him. Ray Williams would definitely get it.
I'm pretty new to lifting I got into it last year seriously. I've gotten stronger and want to try powerlifting but the wide grip bench press feels so weird and hurts my shoulders a bit.
What am I doing wrong?
@@CanditoTrainingHQ Oh and I workout at planet fitness and my pals home gym, (he has a bench and squat rack)
Jonnie: When was the first time you squatted 500?
Ray: Pounds or kilograms?
🤣
Lol flexing without knowing🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm pretty sure Brad Castleberry has squatted more than him AND is more in shape than Ray.
@Jadd Cavalberry does... the baby come out of the anoose?
I heard rumors that he squated 400kg back in highschool
No, i am sure that Brad curled more
If he sees this comment he will probably think ur serious lmao
This is brads warm up
He’s so polite! Even that is inspiring - what a guy
A remarkable human being in every way
Seeing a 400lb dude saying yes sir just screams humble.
Ray's answer to the last question is absolutely on point. I didn't expect him to say that. Ronnie Coleman has been dealing with back issues since high school. I am sure his issues are due to either "bro moments" or injuries. The way Ray trains shows you he will be squatting well into his 60s and have no issues growing old (as long as his organs stay healthy).
The fact that this dude is breaking world records on 3 hours of sleep is INSANE
it's called roids bro
Where did he mention only sleeping 3 hours? Does he sleep that consistently?
@@chadshowdown9382 during the part where he talked about his work/school schedule. Dude said he would drive 2hours to school, be there all day, then train for 2-3 hours then 2 hour drive home sleep for 3 hours then do it all over again. That kind of life wreaks HAVOC on your body.
nepavadintas nipas
Must be hard being this pathetic. Can’t imagine you will ever accomplish anything substantial
@@Ainttrippin bro that was way before he was breaking world records.
We in here bruh
Almost 2 hours of candito? Oh my...
Yessir! Share it to spread the word if you want me to keep up with this format. I'm considering doing a 4 video playlist with who I consider to be the best in the world on the big 3 + total. It'd include a few non-IPF guys too.
@@CanditoTrainingHQ I would microwave a hamster to see that
SeaCashew no wait
SeaCashew much better pan seared but I support your support of the cause.
@@samkee3859 that's funny, I nuke them just for the power trip.
Really dope, in-depth interview. Ray Williams is a monster lifter, but seems like a really cool, honest, and down to earth guy.
Also, Candito thought he was being sneaky with that last message in the video. 😏
It's still pretty wild. I remember the days when he said he had a poverty bench. Now he's attempting 405lbs.
I was with your comment until he said he was natural. Man I wish the world could be open about that.

Ray and Jonnie are proof that lifters aren't just dumb jocks. Both are well spoken and excellent at conveying their thoughts on the sport. Great interview!
Big man, big heart. Top Tier Human, much love!
Ay Jonnie I just wanted to say I appreciate how much you highlight and the respect you clearly have for some of these dudes knowledge. It really frustrates me to see how many people write off the experience and wisdom of some lifters that might not always have the technical programming vocabulary to explain their methodology. Please keep up the great work
Man I could listen to Ray talk all day
Big Ray. His squat is insane. Definitely one of the all time greats. Hope he can get that 1100 some day. O.D Wilson was a big dude. It's hard to carry that level of weight.
Best squatter the world has ever seen also happens to be super humble and polite. Total class act guy.
I wasn’t planning on spending an hour and a half watching this but it was fantastic. Thanks guys
Yes I'm already in. And I saw it. Ray seems to be really humble and nice guy.
Glorious energy
Fantastic content as always, Johnnie. Ray just seems like a national treasure, glad we could hear an interview this long and really learn more about him. What a humble, honest, God fearing man, our sport is lucky to have him. Also, sorry about missing 405, that's rough man :( mission failed, we'll get em next
Great job Jonnie on the interview and thanks Ray for giving a great/compelling interview!!
when’s the 7 week arnold program dropping?
One of my favorite interviews I've ever watched, two legends and inspirations sharing wisdom. Thanks for the amazing content Jonnie!
I fucking love Ray
I was at the Alabama USAPL state meet and made the original video of Ray's lifts in person, "A Bolt from the Blue," which has been copied by a lot of people. I've also done videos of Ray at several other USAPL meets, including his first USAPL national meet in Orlando. Hello, Ray! Fred Rice
A lot of people have already commented some of my thoughts so I'll just leave it as:
Thank you so much Jonnie and Ray for what you guys do for the sport!
When my mum says "do you want ice cream for dessert?: 1:28:03
Great podcast Jonnie! More podcasts with famous lifters talking about thier lifting styles, mindset and programming would be amazing content.
I was going to sleep but what! Candito has uploaded a video! No sleep 4 me

Two kings
My two favorite powerlifters, what a treat!
Thank you jonnie and ray, you guys are a real inspiration for me.
Ray Williams the legend!!!
This was awesome. Probably one of the few videos I've watched end to end and also damn 405. You used to claim to have a poverty bench but here you are now attempting 405
Absolutely brilliant really enjoyed this one, ray is a legend. Thanks guys
This video blessed my heart
This is great, i can tell how much of a fan you are
Fantastic interview, so good to hear ray speak and his knowledge around the sport I love and how well spoken he is, plus some great questions from candito
3 years from now Julius Maddox is benching this
No lol
I had no idea James McAvoy had a powerlifting channel. Great interview!
Great interview paesan!
Fuck. Ray Williams is a genius. What an amazing interview.
this is gold!
sooooo fucking awesome man. thank you guys
Thank you so much @CanditotraningHQ for this bomb info
Duo is just amazing
Perfect listening-whilst-lifting material
Now here's a video I didn't know I wanted! I'm gonna enjoy this one!
This is excellent! Thank you.
Amazing interview
deserves a billion views
We got lucky with Ray he could of made millions in the NFL
The best NFL linebacker Larry Allen was the strongest NFL player oddly enough I think it's because of the strength
Best interview ever!
Great video I watched all of it
Johnnie was fanboying so hard....and I don't blame him one bit. Glad you got to speak to one of your heroes, Johnnie.
Jonnie, your uncle in Louisiana has finally subscribed to your RUclips channel. Excellent interview! Good luck in all of your future endeavors!

Not only one of the strongest men in human history, but one of the most wholesome.
Great segment I will save this.
Amazing interview!
Amazing Vid
4.89 at 303lbs...
What
It’s 3.56 but still crazy
Next interview with dan Bell please
Williams.power ..... LOVE IT
This is amazing. We defo need more of these long interviews with powerlifting legends. Awesome work man!
3:35 good to know that the world's top powerlifter fits the stereotype
Really great content here. Thanks Jonnie.
Any chance that this format could be audio only on spotify or different platform?
adding leg extensions back into my routine
This is Epic
GREAT VIDEO MANE
"All that notoriety never meant that much to me"... because you're running on 3 hours of sleep! Awesome dude. Awesome interview. Thank you Ray and Jonnie.
Great interview jonnie!!! Do SSJBOBB NEXT
Can someone clarify his training methodology? If I understood correctly he built his base by squatting, benching and power cleaning every day, specifically by doing 5's up to a top set for each lift, except power cleans upto 275 only, followed by treadmill work. Now he trains each lift once a week (so 3 training sessions per week?), 4-5 week cycles with higher reps early and then lower reps towards the end of each cycle, he does something like a 5x5 or buildup to a top set for the main lift (depends on the week), no backoff work, then a lot of accessory work with things like hip belt squats, leg extensions, and lat pull-downs?
If I hadn't just heard him say all of that, I'd have said you were meming.
Candito did a good job with the interview. Only nitpick is to just ask the question and let them answer, don't suggest answers. It's not multiple choice, also if you ask long trailing multiple part questions people will only answer the last part of the question. Better to ask the questions individually
Brad Castleberry has every record in squat and everything else in the world.
Start your own podcast! This was great
Luke Richardson a British IPF turned strongman, hes young and extremly strong...
If he went for it, i Think he coud to 1000 pound maybe 1050 Raw
Yeah watching that guy lift is insane
Well he probs won't be allowed back to tested anytime soon
USAPL is eventually going to have to go to a good squat bar to fit the weight on bar and get rid of the bar whip.
For sure dude. I dont know why they dont, especially with guys like Ray squatting 1000lbs+
They would have to do it for everyone then and at that point it won’t be the same bc USAPL/IPF is known for using a power bar on all 3
We need to see vintage Ray at 2021 nationals, because Derek Dowry, Jesus Olivares and Tre Thomas are all a threat to go over 1000 kg. That SHW class getting deep.
Amazing interview we need a training collab with big ray in the driveway lol
awesome
yes! timestamps
Big Ray “You Know” Williams
Bro you'll get that 405 bench soon man! I'm gonna get 315 in a few weeks! :)
Did you end up getting it
825 for 4x4 beltless is just so crazy.
I can probably count on my hands the number of guys in the world that could hit 1 set of 4 in sleeves at 800+
but to do 4 sets, no belt? that's just a whole other level.
Humanity needs to call him Sugar Ray. Wow.
We need that Russwole and Big Ray squat session collab 🔥🔥🔥
Russ the dogtag biter
Ray Williams vs Dan bell ????
I don’t like you (bug eyed freak) but I love Ray Williams so I’ll watch this begrudgingly
Guy went through a period of time where he slept two to three hours a night and still was lifting the type of weight that he was. Elite
Elite is an insult to a GOAT 😅
#MAKEPOWERLIFTINGGREAT
Marshawn Lynch, Jerome Bettis and MJD would all be guys that come to mind that could squat serious weight. Currently Nick Chubb and Saquon are some of the strongest most powefull guys under 235 lbs.
Just wondering, his performance at raw nationals isn't as up to par. Was he still affected by the sickness during that time?
@Luke yeet yea, he was injured as well but he’s making a comeback
nice👍
Given how important sleep is purported to be for GH release and recovery, how do you think Ray was able to recover from these massive lifts with so little sleep?
BBC genetics
Drugs help a lot though
Drugs
yo! cant believe you missed 405 on the bench recently :(
It takes an hour and a half to warmup for a single??? Absolutely incredible what they do for their dreams
Johnny you have such a man crush on brother-man.
How did ray train to get from 1 plate to more plates? Was it al like working up to one top set every session and add weight whenever he can?
Imagine him having the world record for all 3 lifts
Also when hes talking about 5x5, is it the ramping up fives or same weight sets across?
What about Kirk Karwoski and Ed coan squats? they where within 100lbs range while weighting a lot less
They were competing in equipped meets for their heaviest squats. It's not comparable.
