I was about 9 years old, so it was about 1976, that I discovered while listening to this track from Mangione's album and playing around with my dad's Farfisa keyboard that HEY!! I can play by ear!!! (single notes that is). I couldn't believe I was playing along. It's a moment I'll never forget. Thanks to Mr. Mangione for giving me such a beautiful song to remember it by.
I was turned onto CM during high school by my drum instructor around '75. Wow! Talk about fantastic, capturing, moveable music. I cried to this song when my Mom died. CM's melodies are spiritual and when I close my eyes and listen to headphones, I feel like I'm flowing with it during the light melodies and pounding my hands trying to emulate James Bradley Jr. during the high intensity, energetic, power songs. I miss this type of music very much. DCI comes close, but CM is the original.
Good stuff...met ol Chuck at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse, NY. Played trumpet growing up and he got me into the Flugelhorn. Used to be able to play these tunes...shedding a tear...thanks for posting buddy. Great memories
If I had an anthem, this piece says it all. Chase the Clouds away. Thanks, Chuck. Sometimes when you play this music, everything falls into place, like bowling a perfect game in bowling....Chuck Mangione
Thank YOU for sharing this great song from our pasts...brings back a very good time of my life. Saw Mangione in concert a few times in Miami...fantastic!!! BTW, LaDolceVita, you are obviously a pilot...many happy landings!
this song lost the grammy in 1975 as best instrumental to the hustle lol yes i know what a shame anyhow saw chuck play in live in 77 great song live or studio i do prefer the studio version and i once had the live lp at the hollywood bowl this s an great find thanks for posting
Thought you might like to know how it got it's title. Chuck was working on it at home when his little daughter ran in, "Daddy, Daddy, Chase the clouds away!" So that became the title of this piece.
I remember this song being used as bumpers between commercials for the 1976 Winter Olympics. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember Dorothy Hammil skating to this too, but I'm not positive.
Always thought this song was great, love the lryics sung by Ester Satterfield. This is going to be our wedding song. Both being drum corps people, what better choice. Thanks Chuck.
@EJBronco I remember trying to shake off the seemingly eternal hangover from Vietnam. Then I heard this while driving through NW New Mexico. I knew everything would be okay. Been married for 30 years, still don''t have 2 nickles to rub together, but I can smile and sleep at night. What else do I need???
@EkulaleilitSak My dad had a similiar experience. He told me about it and what he went through. All I can say is Amen to what you said :) God is wonderful. With him, there is always something to live for :)
ladolcevita: you need to share the whole album....i keep looking for song of the new moon everywhere, and nothing from this album (other than this song) exist....thanks!!!
Once I start listening to this song I cannot stop. I can hit the replay button forever.

I too lived and worked overseas and found music to be the best comfort. I also have loved "Chuck" since I was a teenager. :)

I grew up on chuck music and this is one my many favorites, my dad introduced me to the love music as a baby and had loved it every since.

Rest in eternal peace Gerry Niewood.
i just love this man and his music,
I don’t think he would’ve been as successful without Chris Vandals. He was incredible
thank you, I needed that to unwind

Allen Stone, Marques Toliver ....it all depends what you like but there are great talents out there
Thanks for sharing this. I don't live versions of any songs all that much. Prefer the studio versions.
