You can freeze pasta before cooking, when ready to use, take out of freezer and boil. Enjoy, we have made homemade for years (my husband is Italian 😀).
I learned my favorite way to knead dough from my sweet friend from Afghanistan. She grabbed a huge metal bowl, mixed up her ingredients and plopped down on the floor with the bowl between her knees. She went to town kneading the dough in the bowl. I was so surprised but when I tried it myself I loved it! Kneading with your upper body weight directly over the bowl on the floor is sooo much easier than at counter height! I’ll never go back!
Great advice about starting homesteading a little at a time. I bought a tiny 650 sq foot cottage 9 years ago. I have a nice 8x10 garden plot & some raised beds. I planted 27 fruit trees/bushes. I waterbath can & had to find a dedicated space to store. Turned a small closet into shelves. Work with what you have.
I have the same pasta maker and have had it for 40 years. When I make a large batch and have leftover dough, I have a fold up clothes rack and dry it to freeze, for meals later.
Thanks for this recipe Jill! I just bought a stainless steel pasta machine from an op shop for $15 with the intention of making sourdough pasta!?! So glad I did!! I almost didn’t buy it because I’ve never made pasta, let alone sourdough pasta before, but I though I should step out of my comfort zone and try/learn something new! Thanks for sharing your knowledge on growing flowers, food and cooking! 🌻Hayz ( Australia 🇦🇺)
Once again, Jill, YOUUU are rocking it and that is just the pep talk I needed as I am also that girl well older woman who never was able to manifest my dream of having a farm that was self sustaining, but I do have the ability to can and to make sourdough, and I strongly believe in teaching these skills to others. I am going to attempt the noodles and will be watching to see how the dehydration goes.
While I have not tried sourdough pasta I do use pureed vegetables in my pasta Hough to add color, favor and nutrients. My nephews loved the process of making homemade pasta when they were little.
Great job, Jill and June!! How cool that she wanted to help you, Jill. And you are so right about doing what we can do right now, wherever we are! I recently purchased a food dehydrator, and I'm so thankful to have another way to preserve my garden produce! I don't currently do any canning, but one day I'd like to take a class on it, just to be sure I learn all the safety protocol.
Money saving tip .. I got a hand-me-down kitchen aid and purchased ( not the full kit) just pasta roller (a must have! love it ) very easy to make thin sheets ( for ravioli and lasagna)...then I got one, like the one you are using at a second hand store for the cutting into strips/ only one pass through.
I do it old fashioned. I rollout thin on the counter. Ket dry on countrr. Roll up like jelly roll and then cut with pizza cutter knife or scissors. Then un roll and dry with flour surface and then ket dry all day. Love love love chicken noodle soup. You can freeze these to. Wonderful!!!
GREAT....this is the first time I heard of anyone making pasta with SD. Will do. I have a pasta machine like yours. Have been making noodles with just eggs, flour and water...NEVER thought Sourdough could be used. SUPER. Thanks for sharing. Aria
Hey Jill! If you’re planning on freeze drying the pasta I would suggest cooking it first then freeze drying, remember when it’s reconsistuted the texture will be like what it was before. By cooking it first you can eat it immediately once reconsistuting versus having to cook it after reconsistuting. You can also air dry pasta by hanging it over a line or clothes hanger until it’s completely dry and you can snap it in half, then store and cook like store-bought whenever you want pasta!
Helpful tip- After you break your eggs into the flour use a fork to mix the eggs while catching bits of flour and mixing it in until it starts to come together then use a bench scraper to fold the dough over on top of itself. It helps with the mess and keeping the dough together. BTW where do you get your beautiful pottery?
I have wheat intolerance but if I let the sourdough pasta ferment for 2 hours and then put in the fridge for 24 -48 hours to let it break down really well.
Just had breakfast but I am getting hungry for pasta😊. Thank you Jill. Glad you are feeling better, but do not be over confident. Take it slow. Sometimes you don't feel it until later you over done it. 🤩👍
I used to make homemade noodles with my kids. They would eat the noodles raw. We had a blast. I hand rolled them like you would cinnamon rolls and their job was unrolling the pinwheel and hang them on the oven racks.
Hi Jill. Watch Becky at Acre Homestead .She makes pasta for a whole year and dries it naturally on an open table to dry it . You do not need to have a freeze dryer and with the cost of power these days it makes it far more economical. Glad to see you on the mend. X
My husband always makes fun of how messy I am in the kitchen 😂. Fresh pasta is the best pasta!! I’m definitely going to have to try it with sourdough 💚 it!!
Great tutorial; thanks for sharing! That looks yummy! I did buy a manual pasta maker off market place & have only used it to cut some premade pasta. I’m excited to try your recipe with my sourdough discard! Many blessings to your family & your continued healing🤗❤️🇨🇦
Thank you so much for this video, just recently started with sourdough starter and looking for recipes and things to do with it. Imposter was one of the things that were on my list, so thank you again you have encourage me to make it tonight. Have a wonderful day.
I really enjoyed this video. I haven't made pasta in a while as I currently don't eat much of it due to a diet restriction, but I used to. I made lasagna noodles, just the eggs and flour recipe, rolled them out by hand and hung them over the back of a kitchen chair to dry. Your dinner looked fantastic! ...wish I was in Mama Jill's kitchen for some of that!
That looked so yummy. I’ve always wanted to make my own pasta. But have never had any counter space or table to do so. Maybe one day. 🤷🏻♀️ Love that June always wants to help. Have a blessed day and hope you continue to get better. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕👩🏻🌾
@00:47 yes this is the flour version, but what we are mostly eating from the stores are made with durum wheat / semolina flour. We are ( as human beings) still can’t perfect that at home . Check the french chef on youtube he has a whole series about that. So interesting
I thought that looked like a lot of pasta 🍝 You’ll have to show us how to freeze dry. Ps I really enjoyed the music 🎶 you chose and please make sure you’re careful about lifting during your recovery 🙂
This looks amazing!!! Do you ever cook or make food with almond flour/oat flour or any other kind of flour other than normal/wheat flour. I’m having issues with those. I have made little healthier cookies w out flour…. But I’m interested in makes bread or the pasta you just made w other flour.
Baking, making pasta, oh how I used to LOVE to do that. I have had to go gluten free for the past 3 years. I found out I had an intolerance😔 This looks incredible. BTW
Hello! I hope you’re feeling better Jill!! Reaching out because I bought your sourdough starter and am reviving it. I’m on day 2, where I added 40g water and 60g flour but my starter hasn’t necessarily doubled and it’s been almost 24 hours. I do see bubbles and it smells like yogurt. Should I wait for it to double before moving on to the next step? Or go ahead and discard and add 50g water and 50g flour? Thank you so much in advance!
Id like to know if your dry pasta becomes super brittle or is that just mine. I havent tried sourdough but just regular pasta so far. Is there tricks for making it not break as easy?
Next time make your well a bit bigger and beat the eggs until it forms a paste while gradually pulling in flour from the rim. Then use a bench knife to cut in before kneading. Otherwise a pretty good tutorial!
You can freeze pasta before cooking, when ready to use, take out of freezer and boil. Enjoy, we have made homemade for years (my husband is Italian 😀).
You can just let the pasta air dry to preserve it. I don't think you need to use a freeze drier. I am so glad to see you feeling better.
Yup, 100% dry before putting it away or else it will get moldy.🤢
Yes, putting a fan on it helps. It takes 2-3 usually, although in Arkansas with the humidity levels it may take a little more time! 😃
So once we air dry it what should we store it in??? A ziplock bag in the freezer?

Would love to see photos of your sweet place
@@melissashreve2400 too bad I can't share here. Maybe someday I will start a RUclips channel to show my life.
I love making sourdough egg noodles, and add them to my crockpot chicken veggie soup. It's a delicious healthy simple weeknight meal.
Yum sounds great

Been watching the last few videos and was in tears. I pray that your day today is the best! Love you and praying for you as well. xoxoxoxo

They can also look at Team Benson desert garden. She lives in a townhouse and grows A LOT of food on her patio.
I've made plenty of pasta before . Will try that. No better way to burn of Carbs, needing dough and Cranking through a paster machine
So glad we are on this journey together! I've made about 5 recipes in about two weeks 😁 love seeing everything that can be done with sourdough.
Money saving tip .. You are looking good miss Jill. Hopefully you are feeling well. You are in my thoughts and prayers much love 🤗😇
Great video. Your daughter is such a cutie. Watching her so intent on make pasta was such a delight.
Thank you for posting.
You can hang dry the pasta and save it. No need to freeze.
If you ever watch Becky from Acre Homestead, she did a video on making a year’s worth of pasta and air dried it.
It's so good to see you up and about, taking care of your soul as well as your body.
I have been making pasta for years and have never know that you could use you sour dough start. I definitely will be trying this. Thank you. 💕
Fabulous Jill. Just fabulous. Keep getting better. You’ll be outside in your garden before you know it
PS. June is very cute!🌺🌸

Great idea, thanks for sharing
Those pasta nests look so professional 🤗🍝🌱💚❤️
Your sour dough tutorial is the BEST!! I just didn't realize it was for 2 lol
And I’m so happy to see you smiling again God bless you and your family Amen 🙏
If you make a wider, flatter well you should have less egg leakage. Low and wide flour walls are best from what I understand.
GREAT....this is the first time I heard of anyone making pasta with SD. Will do. I have a
pasta machine like yours. Have been making noodles with just eggs, flour and water...NEVER thought Sourdough could be used. SUPER. Thanks for sharing. Aria
Hope you enjoy
I love the fact you said you like doing things with food by hand. I feel its the best method as well 👍
You are so beautiful! You are working so hard. Take care of your beautiful self.
Learning so much from you and the comments 😊THANK YOU!
I use a wooden clothes rack to hang dry my pasta. It keeps for quite awhile. I can’t wait to try putting in a little sourdough, mmm
So good to see you looking well, continuing to pray for your full recovery. ❤️

Fantastic pasta lesson Jill , your end result looks delicious. Thank you...
Willing attitude and failing and try again..... growing and learning. Great advice. Dont be limited.

I came for the recipe but appreciate the wisdom! Such a good way to put starting one thing at a time with what we have!
Glad it was helpful!

I've used a bowl to mix before and kneaded on my cutting board which was sitting on my stovetop. it worked just fine. 😁
Especially now with Pasta not showing up on shelves like it use to 🌺👏
Please be safe while you are making your projects.
Thanks 👋❤️🙏
What is your sour dough starter recipe
Yeah, I always bulk ferment
@00:47 yes this is the flour version, but what we are mostly eating from the stores are made with durum wheat / semolina flour. We are ( as human beings) still can’t perfect that at home . Check the french chef on youtube he has a whole series about that. So interesting

I shared your video with my Twitter followers. I hope everyone tries to make sourdough pasta. - Ted Vegh
Oh Jill you can also just leave the pasta out to air dry!
Hi Jill! Acre Homestead has a video where she makes a bunch of pasta to dry and store for later use on RUclips 😁
I would be using my processor, it will be easier.Thank you.
I feel like this would be fun with kids having them separate them and make piles 😃 so fun!!!!!!! Then eating it YUMMY 😅
This looks amazing!!!

Whaaaat? Sourdough pasta how cool
Thank you
Looks fantastic 🌸💕🌸
I'm going to bulk ferment at least 12 hrs
Awesomeness
Please can you tell me where you buy all your pottery dishes, bowels and mugs yours and my taste are just alike
Let pasta air dry to preserve 💖
Looks yummy!
Great job!
I now need a pasta machine!
Baking, making pasta, oh how I used to LOVE to do that. I have had to go gluten free for the past 3 years. I found out I had an intolerance😔

Jill your suck a strong soul! what a great recipe.
💚 So cool, making sour dough pasta! Can you explain, once again, why you are referring to the sourdough starter as "Discard"? 💚
If you don't want it to stick as much together you just let them dry before the last cut
You can add flour to the rollers so the pasta doesn’t stick together
Fun! 😄
what does sourdough pasta taste like compared with normal pasta
Melts in your mouth 🤤
YUMMY!😃
hugs from pam and john keep it coming on video 😇🥰😍
2 cups of discard sourdough? 4 eggs. 3 cups flour? Feeds how many??
I would love to bring some of my fresh pizza sauce to go with your fresh pasta. 😜
Id like to know if your dry pasta becomes super brittle or is that just mine. I havent tried sourdough but just regular pasta so far. Is there tricks for making it not break as easy?
Where can I fine your recipe for all measurements ?
Next time make your well a bit bigger and beat the eggs until it forms a paste while gradually pulling in flour from the rim. Then use a bench knife to cut in before kneading. Otherwise a pretty good tutorial!
Thanks for sharing your tips
Also do you have a written recipe for us?
Have you seen people freeze dry scrambled (raw) eggs? Seems like farmhouse on Boone did it…..?
Yum
Pizza cutter and a rolling pin work just as well! Just slower
pasta recipe:
2 cups flour
4 eggs
1 cup sourdough starter
Was that 2 c flour 4 eggs and 1/2 c starter???????? Wasn’t sure if that was a 2 cup measuring cup or 1 cup.
You like your water berkie
Love it
