  • Challenge yourself with this movement puzzle called ‘It’s All About the Base’, which works with a coordination exercise that shifts the base away and back to the centre.
Amy says: ‘The way we work at stopgap requires us to coordinate our bodies in many different ways and often in a complex fashion. My movement puzzles are little coordination challenges!’
    About Inclusion Elevates Everyone:
Our final series of Home Practice is called Inclusion Elevates Everyone. Drawing on Stopgap's 25 years of experience, this series shares some key elements of inclusive dance and choreography for you to expand your practice at home.
We use the phrase 'Inclusion elevates everyone' to explain that creating inclusive and accessible practices, processes, and experiences benefits everybody. By teaching and working inclusively it is helpful to everyone, regardless of their body, learning style, disability, and experience.

    About Home Practice:
Home Practice is a self-guided programme of inclusive contemporary dance classes and workshops that introduce a variety of approaches to inclusive dance practice. As the name suggests, all sessions are suitable to practice at home, wherever that may be.
Home Practice is not about imitating what happens in the studio during a typical contemporary dance class but aims to support dancers' continued process of learning whilst at home. All content is intended to be inclusive, however we at Stopgap realise that accessibility needs to be an ongoing conversation. If you have a suggestion regarding access and or would like to request an episode to be sign interpreted, please get in contact.
Home Practice highlights the solo experience in a class context, encouraging participants to own their own contemporary dance practice - free of over-critical comparison to others. It aims to build confidence for individual dancers to return to the studio when the time is right.

Disclaimer: We advise that you clear enough space so that you can move and focus. Although Home Practice sessions often start gradually and build, you may want to warm yourself up so that you are fully prepared for the session.
Home Practice is a chance to develop your individual dance style, so please personalise the class to your needs. If you need any clarification on instructions or intentions, please send us a comment. Stopgap Dance Company and the Home Practice Team regularly organise webinars to share ideas, movement translations and feedback - if you feel this would be valuable for your practice, please contact us.
Please be aware that if you engage in Home Practice, you agree that you do so at your own risk and therefore release Stopgap Dance Company from any claims known or unknown, arising out of negligence.
