      They should cast a girl who is 26-27 playing a teenager rather than jenna who was 19 while shooting. Acting should also have boundaries. 19 is just too young. There are many actresses who are 26-27 but can look like teens with makeup. No need to cast an actual teen. A 51 year old Agreeing to do sex scenes with a 19 year old girl, kiss her and all that not okay. The whole production people are messed up to cast Jenna.

    I feel like most people don't understand the movie and only sees it as a movie romanticizing huge age gaps. Jenna said herself there's a message behind it and we shouldn't see the movie the way most people do right now... btw a small detail that I wish was added, Cairo said at some time at the beginning that she was listening to Celine Dion, it would have been so cool if Celine's version of "At Seventeen" was added in the credits (I'm sure they thought about that but didn't have the rights to do so)

Nothing ever happened between them (they never slept together or kissed), he imagined the risqué scenes while reading an essay she wrote (it was a literature class and she wrote a kind of short story about a romance between a student and a teacher). Legality doesn't equal Morality. Her being 18 means nothing. Their emotional and mental maturity isn't the same as a 40 year old's let alone someone who's 25. I'm 18 and my mother is 43 years old. Me and my mom are very different mentally and emotionally; so is every 18 year old and 40 year old out there. I don't care if you perceive yourself to be "mature enough." The reality is, you're not.

      @TBlackRose If they're as immature as an 18 year old then they might have a mental disability which hinders their brains grow with their age. Nonetheless, my point still stands. I don't get the point of your reply like what are you trying to say? That just because there are 40 year old immatures that justifies them being in a relationship with someone waaaaay younger than them? A 40 year old's immaturity isn't even the same as a teenagers immaturity. Immature 40 year old's don't have jobs and spend their money on useless things like gambling or something. Immature 18 year olds act like literal children; 7 year olds.

    I truly feel like people missed the whole point of the movie and if thats done on such a mass level then the responsibility lies entirely with the director.
    Additionally, I feel Cairo set him free by burning down a life build on lies and with everything burned down to ashes, would he dare to be honest about what he was left with ?

    • @jadefire2817
      @jadefire2817 6 месяцев назад +65

      Exactly!! Her friend says, "He *sees* you." Which for a writer (well, for anyone , really) is the most intimate thing ever. To be *seen.* And, at the end of this she says, "Is this what it is to be an adult? The same exquisite longing of adolescence, but with the accountability of your self? No excuses to be made." In other words she's saying, "I was an adult and I knew what I was doing. " And I haven't seen the movie but it feels as if she's saying she was "made a fool" because she felt like he refused to acknowledge that he *had* been living a life of lies. I'm actually really looking forward to watching this film!

    After reading this comment section, I really understand the different kinds of mindsets that people watch movies with. Some people really don't see beyond the outward appearance, of what the scenes might actually be trying to show. Their relationship was faulty, didn't have the best layouts, yes. But it was what they experienced. Their story. Also, this movie was made out to be the way it was, made to bring out all that negativity, like, just feel the emotions yanno? Why are y'all getting so chilled out? And why would you watch it in the first place if it was something you didn't like? Seriously?

    I'm sure that this movie would went viral and people wouldn't be acting like creating something like this is a crime if more 'conventionally attractive' actor was casted instead of Martin Freeman. I personally love the casting because it seems possible. It's not what's on the outside but what's on the inside and that's the real thing that pushes people to the edge. It's the fascination and fantasy that you can create in your own head about somebody that can make you lose control.

      @@c.1549No question or problem of their acting. It’s about the way it was portrayed to the audience. All teenage girls should have be influenced by such nonsense. Never would the Son, the Father, nor the Holy Spirit would ever for it is written. We appreciate their acting but at the same time shouldn’t have to be comfortable with roles they’re in.
