    Really appreciated you guys spending significant time on the state of Windows/Xbox gaming as someone who enjoys PC gaming but has preferred the convenience of Xbox and built most of my library there for years. I'm hopeful that MS is prioritizing a controller/lean-back experience, and am really hoping they'll do the work to bring Xbox-only games to Windows as a part of this ecosystem consolidation. As someone who has fantasized about console-izing my PC for decades, this SteamOS/MS race is a dream come true 👍

  • @Guckkasten85

    I am happy that Steam OS is coming. Although I prefer Windows. I tried out the Steam Deck and I disliked the experience as soon as I wanted to install anything "non steam" and even many steam games do not work or you need to check which Proton version you use etc. Windows is more comfortable for me and I feel like I have more options (I use Bigbox, Launchbox). But the first Setup is easier with steam, that is true.

      If you're used to tinkering with windows and don't mind spending the time to do it instead of just playing games, and also don't mind using an external keyboard and mouse to do do, yeah, windows is fine. But it's still a worse experience. I've been gaming on windows for decades and on a handheld, I'll take Steam OS any day.

    • @MaynesWorld
      @MaynesWorld 15 дней назад

      @@Zanpaa I 100% respect your stance on this. I also used to add CFWs to my PSPs and such, so I'm used to it. For me though, I just want to play the games I want to play and for some reason the game I wanted to play on my steam deck...I couldn't due to anti-cheat or lack of support.
      I know I won't have the same issue because of my experience with Windows. Also the "Out of the box" aspect people love about Steam will also apply in a way for me as well.

    Speaking of Legion Go, I think the price difference is because the optional SSD and RAM. Since it's $230 sounds like an upgrade for RAM and SSD at the same time.
    and for Windows, it probably cost $15 - $25 for each installment and it depends on how much they sell the device.
    The most curious part about Legion Go for me is that, how the sound difference between the Windows version and the Steam version, since steam are involve in the hardware development of it, I assume they tweak some sound too.

    It's so funny to me that we basically figured out displays that don't destroy our eyes and brains after crt era (and plasma though that one was pretty short) - e-ink is basically perfect just not usable in every scenario; flicker-free backlight lcds with blue light filter are nice; reflective lcds have almost disappeared but are slooowly progressing and making their way back and transflective lcds are even further back but could start being feasible together with rlcd coming forward.

    I started gaming with my grandkids on Nintendo Switch a few years ago and felt the UI was great. Each userID on the box does not require an email address and if I remember correctly there is NO Marketing on the Home Page. When I got a XBOX it was so cluttered and hated it. They could easily make it so much better to simply remove all Marketing on the Home page. But of course they do not want to do that. Pretty much everyone that was part of the beta testing of the current UI (most of 2024) hated all of the Marketing on the Home Page. My favorite UI is on the Apple TV 4k. You pretty much have full control of the UI. Imagine if the head of Microsoft said I would like you to design a UI where the user has full control of what they see. That is what I want. Regarding PC UI. This is difficult because you have a desktop OS. What Apple did was you have macOS (desktop OS). But instead of putting macOS on every device they have iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS and tvOS. For gaming I just want it to work like the XBOX (i.e. hook to the TV or monitor) without a requirement for a keyboard/mouse. And a fully customizable UI. But, it is not that MS can not do this but they just do not want to. One of you said they are just too slow. Yes, that is part of it but again, this is by design not incompetence.

    I'll probably skip this year's handhelds and stay with my Legion Go. But if its possible I will buy the new Legion Go 2 controllers to put on my original Legion Go.

    After listening to the Official Legion Go answer & question live stream...
    ( They confirmed that the Z1 Extreme version of the S with 32gb of DDR memory, will be the most powerful out of the the S line-up... )
    Which makes me think the Z1 version was included as a direct competitor to the Ally X, at least until the new Legion Go 2 with the Z2 Extreme comes later this year...
    ( So the Legion Go S with the Z2 Go chip & windows, feels like an odd decision for Lenovo to offer considering its short comings compared to the current cost of a Legion Go with a Z1 Extreme chip... )

    • @86lanzo
      @86lanzo 17 дней назад +1

      Not really odd..Windows isnt free and some ppl prefer windows..especially if you're going to use it for more than just gaming..
      On top of that valve maybe even offset the cost of the steam OS version because it pretty much locks you in to buying games on steam..

    • @paulwhittaker5494
      @paulwhittaker5494 17 дней назад

      @86lanzo Think you miss-understood my comment... ( The S with 32gb of SSD & windows & the X1 Extreme currently makes sense, as it out performs the new S Z2 Go offerings... ) ~
      I'm much more in favour of windows on larger more powerful gaming handhelds, as they have multi-use potential in other areas such as music & video production etc...

    at 7:00, The exp with compact is bad. The issue it's not the UI per se(AKA the visuel), it's the UX AKA the way you interact with it. It's just a glorify ''Tab'' keyboard input mapped to joysticks/Dpad, there're are no shortcuts to switch from gamepass, library, setting using RB/LB for exemple, no ''press X button'' when you are on your library game, you HAVE to ''tab'' al the way to the play button, etc.
    UI is ok, could use some improvement, but UX is BAD BAD. They should look at what they did with Xbox and even there, you CANT move the top tabs from home, store, game pass, etc easily, you HAVE to bring the cursor on top to switch(correct me if I'm wrong)
    Steam Big Picture is good, not a glorify ''move cursor'' setup

    Microsoft can fix public perception and make us "love" them, they just need to: Abolish Windows Recall, remove the TPM and other stupid requirements, disable the dark patterns, bring back Windows HTPC edition, bring back Windows Home Server edition, stop pushing everyone to use the Windows Store, stop spamming the OS with ad's, stop selling me software in the Windows Store, then move it the Xbox app requiring me to install and enable even more spamming rubbish software........

    56:24 Nintendo definitely Cares about Competing with Sony its why they Sued Palword it was prevent Sony from Competing with Pokemon because Sony Bought the Palworld Brand and Started making moves to Compete Pokemon not just in Games but in Merch to, nintendo saw those moves and Luanched their Lawsuit. Also the reason released the N64 instead of the Console they Developed with Sony was because the Sales Contract for that would have given the Sony the Potential to buy Nintendo or take over via Japanese Legal Loopholes.
    If Sony did not buy palworld that Lawsuit probably would not have happened

Not to mention that fact that they have the worst console sells and have release games in 30fps. Just to fix them months later. How can you depend on them making a light weight OS for handhelds? Just look at their own apps for gaming.

    SteamOS is the one that needs to step it up with that frame gen support b/c I sure as heck ain’t gonna buy a 16 GB of RAM SteamOS gaming device knowing that this standard is antiquated & there is no universal frame gen support. The irony is that the Legion SteamOS device is still underpowered. Just like the steamdeck is underpowered. It might work today but it’s a bad future investment. Windows is not going to hold your hand, coddle you, and spoon feed you if that it what you think windows needs to do in order to “step it up” Microsoft isn’t going to provide you a blanky for nap time. If you are an adult then you are the one who needs to “step it up” lool
