@@Stoneworks Go right on ahead! Finnish mythology is very interesting to learn about. The Kalevala, basically Finland's version of the Norse Edda, is a good place to start if you know nothing. There are a lot of good stories and it's a shame it's underrepresented when compared to Japanese and Norse mythology.

@@irgendwer3610 I'm afraid most of the stuff out there is in Finnish, and sometimes Swedish. The Kanteletar, also compiled by Elias Lönnrot, has English versions on Amazon (UK, US, unsure about other countries). It's very unfortunate because you can find full poems, songs, etc. online for free but only if you can understand Finnish. Hope this helps somewhat even if it is a little disappointing.

This reminded me of my Post-Post Apocalypse world building and short stories, where I had a culture in the former Great Plains (now a giant desert) which used repurposed cargo ships-now land ships from the coast to navigate the harsh terrain.

TheLuftwaffle 1942 Hey, sorry that I haven’t gotten back to you on this, but I hope this comment will answer your questions.
It’s nearly a thousand years after society collapsed in the 2080s. Decades of overexploitation, with the full and rapid realization of the melting ice caps, forced world governments to more drastic measures to extend the whims of consumerism. Across the continents, over farming caused the great agricultural regions of the world to become barren, creating a second and final dust bowl throughout the globe. All nation states of our time collapsed into hundreds, even thousands, of city states, factions, etc. Over time, the masses began to see both ancient technology and technology of their time as magic or divine, with engineers and mechanics being seen as religious leaders and shamans, with no way of teaching such trades outside of direct lessons of reverence. Technology in 3,000 AD is stagnant in many cultures, in an odd mix of medieval and industrial methods, where manufactories are really only found in select cultures. In the Great Desert, the Sand-Soarer nomads make their living off of that issue, often trading salvaged tech, food, scrap, etc. to those willing to buy. They travel the wastes of their home in massive repurposed cargo ships, of which act like motherships for their entourage fleets. These nomadic land fleets are oftentimes huge, and they can be seen from miles away, mostly due to the massive amounts of red and yellow dust they kick up into behind themThey have a very strong warrior culture, and wars are often decided by a brutal duel between mighty champions, of whom wield glaive-like weapons with a Saber-like blade. However, when at war with other cultures, they do not give them the honor of the duel, instead opting to lay siege to their enemies with cannon, gun, and mortar from the decks of their ships. They do not always seek out war, however, and will often seek out peaceful relations as a primary option. Their fleets often house thousands of individuals, in which both men and women are exceptionally equal in standing. Most individuals have tattoos, especially on their faces, which depict the land and sky, with the individual’s birth stars tattooed like freckles. They wear many articles of fine clothing made of silks and linen, and jewelry, of which they prize those of gold and sapphire This coincides with their religion, which is based around a Mother Sky and Father Earth. Most Sand-Soarer activities are carried out to give praise to the Sky Mother and Earth Father, such as constantly maintaining their sacred gifts, those being the motherships, constantly praying to them for guidance, to even making offerings of blood and sacrifice, both self and material. For sacrifices and food, the nomads have hydroponic setups throughout the ships of their fleets (the water necessary coming from massive moisture collecters on the decks as well as pit stops at the Missouri River and Mississippi Bay at least once every 6 months to a year) , and may house thousands of goats, sheep, chickens, and pigs throughout those same fleets. Tradition holds that all animals butchered for consumption must be bled out on the Sky and Earth Altar, after which having that blood offering blessed by the shamaneer.
I could go on and on, but I fear that I’ll overwhelm any reader with everything that I have written down.

Pretty decent. Would like to hear you discuss the interplay between sedentary and nomadic in your next one. HG Wells makes the claim in his history book that nomadic cultures actually advance civilization over the long term by undermining decadent states and disseminating knowledge. Despite all the carnage this actually seems likely.

Everyone is a hunter-gatherer, and almost everyone is nomadic (island-based clans like the Seal Clan are sedentary because there aren't that many potential campsites on islands of that size)

Mongols were very smart. One khan invaded china and came across a fortress known to have never been taken in battle. Although the mongol khan outnumbered the chinese garrison, they had no ladders or siege towers to scale the walls. So the Khan made a deal with the chinese garrison commander. "GIVE ME ONE THOUSAND CATS AND I WILL LEAVE THE VACINITY." Thinking this deal was good the commander got one thousand cats in cages and gave them to the mongols. The khan ordered the cats be soaked in oil and set on fire. And you know what cats do when they're in danger? They run back home. The fortress, mostly made of wood was set on fire by the cats and many opening in the wall was made. Although this was cruel and evil, but it did the job.

In fact most antiRoma sentiment lies in Europe since racism is a result of history and the Roma have more history there.
