Kench has always been great against non-frontline. The entire premise of his kit is that he's a disrupter whose effectiveness is locked behind having a squishy target. He can't kill Mundo, Mordekaiser, Maoki, Darius, Volibear, and so forth. They can--and often do--simply walk away after taking cannon. That's why his kit is so trade-friendly, it has to be or else he couldn't lane. But put him against a Jinx, or a Janna, and suddenly that 15 or so extra magic damage on his passive begins adding up. Kench embraces the fact that in order to build damage, you can't be buying health. And if you don't build health, a 300-600 damage skillshot and some fairly standard auto attack damage, is simply enough to win 1v1s against champs that depend on their team to protect them. Anyways, the gold nerf has been big for him. He can't push/depush waves, so plate nerf was great. His dueling power diminishes as teamfights become more common, but teamfights happen at first item and beyond, with items in their current, weakened state. This is a hugely, hugely superior meta for him to be living in, compared to the mythic items era. Divine sunderer every game, tankshred on truly random items, and he got his share of compensationary buffs as a result. Now, tankshred usually isn't a huge issue, but Kench's kit smiles on regen and max health. Max health means losing more health to tankshred. You can build resistances instead, but this makes you into a waddling undying zhonyas for your ADC with a slow. Compare this to Jax's dive, Olaf's splitpush, Fiora's lane prowess, Warwick's early objective pressure, Garen's peel-via-murder ult, Nasus's inevitable duel potential, and it doesn't look so grand. But with tank items going unaltered, lane phase having more potential to snowball than ever (especially courtesy of heartsteel), and more squishy damage deulists swinging their dicks around in Gold and Platinum, he's going to be sitting pretty for a while.
idk when the last time you fought him top is, but he can 100% kill Mundo, Voli, Sion, Cho, etc, unless they choose to cs like half the minions a wave and that's if they're lucky. especially if he has some hp built. Which in the long run is worth it but does not guarantee you win against him late. his autos do just so much dmg and he has up to two hp bars in one basic ability (his e shield). and his effectiveness is most certainly not locked behind having a squishy target, just makes it way easier to exploit them with his slows and insane auto dmg. and in this very video at like 4:30~ his passive is does 31 dmg. and his passive scales with hp so his dmg does too, and if he buys heartsteel, riftmaker that's all the ap he could ever need x3 mot to mention the dmg that Hearsteel does, and Thornmail and Bami's items both add to the dmg he does while building tank. he is not embracing the fact he cant be buying hp to do dmg, id go as far to say he's the very opposite, up there with Cho gath. I definitely agree the current meta is much better for him than the mythic item era, but your analysis of what he can do is DEAD wrong. and of all the champs you mentions the only ones who are a problem on someone unskilled with the champ is Nasus and Garen, because its just free. but with minimal piloting tahm is better at diving, splitting and having lane / obj pressure. I also have to disagree with saying he cant push, he does more dmg with his autos than a lot of tops early and he can push without mana, way faster if he uses abilities, and with proper positioning a w could hit all the minions and put them all at one passive enhance auto away from death. at the very least quite close. And he can freeze very easily with his regen so thats easy depush.
@andycrisis971 Mordekaiser, mundo, and volibear, all likewise have a second healthbar. Mundo ult and W are an ungodly amount of sustain. Volibear has a percent missing health heal that also does damage, plus a shield. That's a big codifier for tanks, and why there's no heartsteel Samira. 900 health is 2-6 autos in the late game, but it costs 3k gold. If Tahm Kench is tickling you to death as big ticket brawlers, I call skill issue.

I can only hope i0ki sees this one, as I can't play anymore due to wrist issues from playing since Season 3. What I loved most about League was Theory Crafting. I got to come up with a build in response to an annoying problem I kept running into in ranked: Top/JG/Mid/Bot all AD. I'm not a fan of playing carry champs; I prefer to tank or enchant. I was trying to find a solution to this, and playing carry ap champs was doable, but it was making me hate playing League. So I theorycrafted Nasus support. Items are your traditional Locket, Knight's Vow, Solstice, etc. Runes would be Guardian (I know it's a crappy rune right now, but I don't like the Grasp minigame), Font of Life (To stack on Solstice Sleigh and make the heal seem viable), Second Wind or Bone Plating based on lane matchup and Revitalize. Secondary could go dom for zombie ward, precision for triumph/haste, sorc for mana/cd or inspiration for biscuit, triple tonic, cosmic, Footwear. I personally would prefer triple tonic and cosmic, allowing to max e for the 50% armor shred, and wither by around level 11/12. The build was literally created to counter this one scenario, and might be effective against something like Kalista, but for the most part, not reliable as a general pick. Hopefully the GSA will take on my last crafted build.
