Closed VS Open Source 3D Drucker Firmware

Today in my knowledge series I'm going to cover the topic of "closed source" and "open source" firmware. More and more manufacturers are increasingly taking the path of closing the firmware. BambuLab has made a start, Creality and AnyCubic are probably following suit. But what does that mean exactly? What alternatives are there?
