Companionship for animals, even when very well cared for on a farm, can literally affect their survival. Thank You for finding her a true “sidekick” as everyone deserves one!
I don't think it was tragic. Gidget had a lovely final year with Peg. She was after all 30 years old, which is old for a horse. Peg was always going to have another friend and she had time in between to grieve for her old friend.

At least Gidget HAD that last joyful year. She learned what love and companionship was, she had sunshine, rain and snow. She got to run on grass in the sun with Peg. She got to have the good stuff before she clopped over the Rainbow 🌈. I am ridiculously glad she got that year.

😭 I just saw the story about Gidget the other day. Heartbreaking. I bawled for Gidget. I bawled for Peggy. I bawled at seeing the donkeys not accept Peggy. Now I just bawled watching Bourban and Peggy become bff's. Beautiful! ❤
It was when you said it's ok to grief for as long and for as hard as you need to. That's when I broke down. I lost my dog 5 years ago, and every so often, even now, I still feel that grief of losing her.
My cat passed 33 yrs ago. She raised me, from 7 to 27. I still try to feel her in the bed at night. I expect her to join me when I read. She loved me for 20 yrs. There's a HURT place inside because she's gone, even 33 yrs later. I'll miss her till I find her again.
You’re not alone. It will be 5 years in October since I lost my cat that I’d had since I was little. I still choke up just thinking about her. Grief never goes away, our hearts just adapt to live around it.
Very happy to see Peggy's new story! Peggy is such a sweet girl and when she was trying so hard to be friends with the donkeys, it really was beautifully heartbreaking. I love that she kept trying! If you hadn't found Bourbon, I was seriously going to come run around the field with Peggy myself!! 🏃♀️🩷

This update helped my heart. When her best friend died she was so alone. The donkey's would never bond with her in a million years. Some animals only stay with their kind and these donkey's had this kind of mind set. Bourbon is a blessing. Gidget will do just fine. Take care dear little horsey.

I know the pain the remining friend feels. My hunter, & his friend were so close. When my hunter passed at 27, I worried for his buddy. He'd run the fence lines neighing, & in a sweat. 2 weeks of this, I got a baby goat. It was instant love. 3:05 They became inseparatable. So cute seeing them sharing a bond.
