Why gust factor is 8 if gusting at 20 so half of 20 is 10

20 subtract from the wind @12 gives a guar factor of 8 and half of 8 is 4 which then adds the 4 to the approach speed, giving 74kts.

Interesting what you said about the flaps perhaps not being used if needing to clear an obstacle.. In the POH for a PA28-151 it recommends flaps regardless (25* no less) but furthermore according to the performance charts it actually climbs faster with flaps although the ground roll is extended (opposite of what you mentioned). So for a true maximum performance you would accelerate without flaps and then extend 2 notches for a rotate and climb speed of 52KIAS. We like to rotate at 55 and climb at Vx clean speed of 63kts even with flaps for a substantial margin of error at my flight school.

On gear retraction , the rule of thumb is pull the gear up after you have past that point in which you could put the aircraft back on the runway to land in case of emergency.

My POH says to retract the gear once positive climb is established, but my CFI says to wait until an emergency landing on the runway is no longer possible. For now I'm doing as the CFI says.

Ray's Dad you should always take the advice of your CFI first and foremost. It’s good to listen about situations and then ask the CFI about them for an opinion. You chose the CFI because of trust and the knowledge you want from him or her . I had an emergency landing one time engine completely out I waited until 150 yards from the runway to drop the gear if I had put the gear down earlier the drag might have kept me from making the runway 5 miles out at 6500 ft, I’m still flying that airplane these days , not a scratch.

Why not use both? Gear up on positive climb is established AND no useable runway
