Every video has had progress in it. Spelunky is a game about failing until you can't possibly fail any more, and Northernlion is rapidly approaching that point! By that I mean he's clearly improving at a steady rate, so what more could you ask for? If you don't want to watch the entire process, just skip ahead in every video until you can see how far he made it and only watch the ones that interest you. No need to dislike a video just because its particular style doesn't suit you at the moment.

I think you are being overly cautious with mine-level idols. To my knowledge, the shopkeepers only get angry if terrain is destroyed at maybe two-block radius around the shop. Boulders also cannot roll down openings that are only one block wide. Finally, the boulder will always roll your way, so you can bait it into the direction you want.
There IS no "under 100 club". People who put weight on view count, first comments and likes simply believe there's some kind of special exclusivity to being the first to leave their mark on a video. It's not something to be proud of. It just displays that they're more concerned about leaving their name somewhere a lot of people might see it than watching and enjoying the video. Feel free to leave relevant comments and be a part of the People-who-actually-care-about-NL's-videos club instead!
Spelunky... like Issac... is just kinda "like that." You'll have your good days and your bad ones, and skill can compensate for it *somewhat.* But then... that ending was such a doozy! I'd have probably roped my way back up, and tried my luck with the bees. Two sequencially spaced bombs planted down could've been the ticket. Either way, hard effing call. And that tiki trap on that first run... just... YEAH. XD I've done that, it HURTS.
While that is true, and while there's a point to playing the game from start to finish outside of just beating it, I honestly think he should get used to the temple before trying to one-life the whole thing. Every time he gets there, he ends up succumbing to a trap or enemy he doesn't know how to deal with simply because he has no experience with it. I would recommend starting from the temple, learning how to navigate it, beating Olmec once, THEN going for the Isaac style run.

Could have easily killed all of those bees with 1 bomb. Why doesn't anyone seem to realize how bombs work... They do 2 horizontal squares or vertical and 1 diagonal if up against a wall. It's not like they randomly do different shit.

It's only easier if you are a Pro. But he has no experience how to do things in the temple. So he should start at the temple to gain experience. And beat Olmec. It's easy that way.

The pickaxe has a small chance to break on each use and that chance gets bigger and bigger with more uses.
They're not too dark for him, it's just darker for us when we watch it on youtube.
He's Isaacing this game too, like he starts at the first floor and moves on to the boss eventually.
