Love the fact that TLDR has been able to travel to all these conferences and conduct some amazing interviews this year. Excited about the future of this company.
@ they went to both major political party conferences in the UK as well as several others. They have a few different channels such as TLDR UK, Global, EU, Daily, Business, Podcasts etc
As much as i hate the word tariff by now, tariffs on plastics (especially when used in a wasteful manner like packaging) could be a way to reduce plastic pollution, since the oil producing countries aren't always the once to actually produce the garbage, but just prove the resources to create it.
This was a really good video?? Incredible detail about the nerdy, wonky processes your viewers love and you highlighted something super important that most of us have probably never heard about before with on-the-ground coverage. props
That might be a long shot but I feel like this video (and ones on other channels today) have this format because of holidays and Christmas which works great as the team is off and can’t cover the actual news cycle day to day like they usually do. Looks like a win for everyone! Hopefully they get enough views to do more of this
I know people don't usually pay attention to the goings-on of Paraguay, but if you want to be thoroughly confused and impressed (in the worst way) I recommend looking into recent developments around cooperation between the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency, US) and the Paraguayan gov't. I've also never seen Paraguay's former president Horacio Cartes (our local trafficker/politician) mentioned in any TLDR video, which is crazy considering that his influence is felt in anything Paraguay does internationally, by way of the sitting president practically being his lapdog. Please, TLDR, I've seen so many backwater autocrats be covered here; spare some time for Paraguay, at least when talking about Mercosur.
Reduce consumption Eliminate harmful chemicals Improve collection and overflow of rubbish into Ocean Improve recycling infrastructure and education Revisit existing laws to adapt to the times
10/10 video! It was super informative and I’d love to see more like it. I’d love to see a video about the United Nations. I feel like the UN is sorta left in the wayside because of how ineffective it can be when it comes to global news. But it does play a significant role in global affairs despite that.
Can you explain the need for complete consensus? It sounds obvious that if any one country has a veto then no agreement with any sort of teeth will ever come about.
Whilst I understand that consensus and agreement are important parts of treaties, I do feel like progress is stunted if one party out of a multitude has a veto.
It needs to be put in an economic way to get the big oil production counties to back it. The more plastic the more your populations will get sick. The more it will cost in heath care and the less productive your population will be. This will (along with other environmental factors such as air pollution, climate change etc) mean less money for the big counties that refuse to get on board.
The thing is that’s going to happen 5 or 10 plus years from now. These companies will continue to milk the cow for as much as possible and then pivot at the last moment.
Isn't there a biodegradable alternative to plastic which is rarely talked about? It acts at least just like your usual soft plastic and it can be broken down in hours, contrary to the plastic we have today which takes decades to break down
There is, but as far as i remeber that's only for soft plastics wich is already easier to recycle than hard plastics. Wich can't be as easily recycled and thus the type that ends up polluting the environment and breaking down into microplastics more.
Any willing country should implement strict control on plastic production and levy high tariffs on countries with laxer laws. Or to put it differently: Try and put cost of environment damage to those causing it.
Well, most of the largest countries are part of the second group as well. US, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, DRC, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey...
Can someone tell me why the United States committee notes on the "INC" date back to 1991, and some other countries, too? Have I misread something and I didn't know how to properly manage it? As I was following the notes? Note, I have no knowledge in the field, so I don't know if the notes I was reading were relevant or not, but they were under the links of "INC5" on the official website.
Wonder how much plastic they went through during this conference. There's no good way to recycle plastic. They may have to transition to other materials.
Great topic but why don’t we stop using so much plastic ? We still used glass kind of recent. In my country. Now it’s plastic. Milk taste bad in plastic.
Economy. It's cheaper and safer in the extremely short term to make something like plastic than it is glass, which can crack and become a hazard to people both at the factory and and the store.
History is repeating itself, we dont listen to scientists until its too late. Unfortunately I think we are already too late. Im not saying this means we should exacerbate the downsides by throwing away progress, its just a sad reality.
International treaties are not insulated and firewalled from social, political and economic changes. In a time where trade is weaponsized to achieve strategic and diplomatic goals these arrangements are losing relevance and credibility.
Same, I met Elizabeth stark last year for the first time at a conference in Wilshire, after then my Life has changed for good.God bless Elizabeth stark
Europe will also become more independent know that we have broken free from American hegemony. I'd look up the von Mannheim Doctrine when it's published officially.
@@arbalestarethebest7071 The Chinese are pragmatic why not. I mean I understand why the Philippines and I don't know "other US friendly" nations would be reluctant at first. Also what kind of treaties. No wonder the world is the way it is when the youth has no fucking clue of how the world works yet they have temerity of always complaining.
There’s no such thing as an international community let’s not delude ourselves here 😂. Nations with bigger economies and military get to dictate these agreements while smaller nations have to beg these bigger nations to join treaties and abide by them 😅 world will be worse in the years to come but something I’m focusing on is engaging with local communities joining unions etc every little helps!!!!
This is a really cool topic and format. Please do more videos like this!
Love the fact that TLDR has been able to travel to all these conferences and conduct some amazing interviews this year. Excited about the future of this company.
Sometimes I've the impression I'm missing some of their content. I didn't see any interviews from them (are they in their channels? I don't see any)

Not tariffs - taxes. Taxes on plastic. Plastic tariffs would only enable homegrown pollution.
Once? I think you mean ones
A tariff on plastic would only support your domestic companies to produce plastic and import more oil instead.

I second that
"trusting the science" vs. corporate and nationwide interests. Shows how there are frequently so many variables at play
Interesting quote marks you have there (damn those subscriptions are a doozy 💀)
You easily described Trump perfectly
Reduce consumption
Eliminate harmful chemicals
Improve collection and overflow of rubbish into Ocean
Improve recycling infrastructure and education
Revisit existing laws to adapt to the times
Finally some talking about reducing consumption. Someone who hit the roots instead of pruning the branchs.
Passionate speeches about plastics isn’t something I normally expect to see…
5:07 I find it quite sad that Argentina is not on that list. I guess we were not even invited to the summit, but still.

Bold of you to assume that the leaders of these countries care about their people or that the people have any say in national policy.
A video like this for trade treaties would be good.
Which of the 2 groups was the US a member of?

Not as nearly as cheap.

YAA more regulations!
That's what I agree with...

No surprise the axis of evil is at the centre of delays
Well, most of the largest countries are part of the second group as well. US, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, DRC, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey...
I don't think Saudi Arabia is considered part of that group
Plastic polution crisis might be much worse, because there are also microplastics, which will get out off control in several years

with this im wondering if you guys are going to the COP 30 in belém
This video is a little clickbaity. It's more about plastic than about treaties. Give different examples of different treaties
wait where's the ad read at the end?
guys get your paychecks pls
This could be any treaty....

great video comment for algorite
And what are they planning to replace the plastic with? Or did I miss that part? 😅
Coca-cola could stop using plastic and reintroduce glass bottles, to give you just one example.
Metal.
Biodegradables and glass
Paper...
Politicians won't do anythijg byt lip srrvice as they are bought by big oil. It's up to consumers to stop buying products that use plastic

Hmm... maybe if RuZZia and Saudi Arabia did a better job at diversifying their economies this won't be much of an issue for them.
Enter Trump, who will deregulate anything that will help the planet cause it won't put money in his buddies pockets.
International treaties are created if the USA is present everywhere, that's why I understand china wants to be independent by making ita own treaties.
Europe will also become more independent know that we have broken free from American hegemony. I'd look up the von Mannheim Doctrine when it's published officially.
I doubt many of its neighbours would want to sign a treaty regarding territory when it comes to China
