Great memories!! We were there that morning. Came across them by accident, we just followed the sound echoing off the buildings!!!! It was a dull damp Tues morn but the music and sound was electric!! Would love to know how yoy copied this video! Brill!
I don t think they felt very comfortable. But as always they did everything with a great responsibility❤ love you foreverREM. And Michael specially ❤❤❤❤❤
His voice hasnt changed at all. I just saw them live on November 16, 2008 and I can ensure you guys that his voice was the same. I don't know what happened with Michael Stipe in this performance for NBC
Who cares if his voice changes because he is old? its still a classic regardless and if his voice pitch does change over the years, im sure he will work with it to still jazz up the song to its immortal "kick-ass" state.
R.E.M. was formed in the early '80s, a decade ahead of most of the fine bands you mention. They ARE the founders of "indie rock." But you're right, they are not British!
they rock an low profile gigs are more there scene deliverin there message to those can make difference big up to them if i made it big id still be happy doin my local
A level of popularity they never expected to reach. The fucking Today Show in front of Trump-loving housewives and grandmas. Must be so surreal to be a rock star.
so what if he's old, he's been around for a long time and been making quality music that it seems to defy age...... Every body ages and that's including u, bonehead !! What's important is that age didn't wash away his talent period.
Don't know what changed, but other than the bass being 'out front' a little too much the mix for L.M.R. was better...more crisp overall. Stipe's vocal sounds muffled and the drums are really too low. The guitar sounds like he's playing through egg crates or something. Too bad as they're a GREAT live band and deserve better. This is top of the food chain, too! The Today Show certainly didn't do them any favors. Must be a union electrician doing sound.
...Oasis was formed in 1991 and Blur in 1989 so you're off base with those two. Joy Division was formed in 1976 but they were part of the post punk movement, nothing close to britpop. The Smiths arrived in 1982 and Pulp in 1978 although no one gave a rats ass about Pulp until the early 90's. R.E.M. got together in 1980. Since we're in the colonies and this show is based here I'm sure the reference is intended for American "indie/alternative" bands. That's my two cents...
Scott McCougahy always has the best time at an R.E.M. gig

Lots to appreciate here - I love that crackin' snare nailing down the tempo.
RIP Bill Rieflin 😢🙏🏻

We all have a favourite Jersey and this stripey cuffed one is Michael Stipes. Peace
me either :( I`m stuck in Finland, but they are coming here too :)
Awesome! Well done Mr. Stipe and Co.
I saw them live when they came to Vancouver. Losing my religion sounded great. Awesome Concert
OMG I love these 3 guys!!
Amazing
he does have beautiful eyes
I like his voice a lot. It`s not what I would consider your typical 'singers' voice. More like just how the guy would talk.

Does anyone remember when R.E.M. was on The Today Show before this, singing the same song...Losing My Religion? Thanks :)

It would have been epic if they had started playing Wendall Gee instead of Losing My Religion.
In southamerica, people would have been jumping every second
rem came to italy pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
look at all those soccer moms
I didn't know Bill Murray could play guitar!
Every member of the band is thinking...what the fuck time is it????
I thank the heavens I went to UGA
You are lucky :)!

Jesus...
How can the camera have missed 8:47 completely?
peter buck is starting to morph into jimmy page in looks & he is of a similar great talent as well
I don't mind seeing them on NBC. If it was FOX News, though...
Is that Ann Curry blissing out to the mandolin line at 4:22 to 4:24? So what if Al Roker isn't into it! ;-)
That's because he realizes he's on the Today Show, and he's thinking "My God, has it really come to this?"

@TheCibuz little late for that now, buddy :/
i dont think they can believe they are doing this... i feel sorry for them, they aer far better than this!
Better than anything you could achieve in your entire life though.
Sorry.. I was a bit cranky the other day.
Michael Stipe must be sick of singing this song.
Al Roker doesnt seem to be enjoying this at all...
The Today Show? Seriously? It's sad how far this band has fallen. RIP REM.
