My spidey sense was tickled when they refused to disclose funding because they know that having Elon onboard would be a negative PR and also would throw the future of xAI into question.
xAI lacks technical leadership - they build out Dojo but the chip architect has left as it turned out it was too weird (not supporting Cuda - only PyTorch) and not performant and cost effective to use for training models as nVidia.
Why sad? He brought sutskever out of Google because Larry Page didn't believe in AI safety, and if Elon's backing SSI, then he's bringing Sutkever out again because OpenAI has shifted from safety to profits. Nothing wrong in that vision. I think Elon understands that AGI must be truly open to all humanity, and all that power cannot be vested in the hands of a single company. Of course there's a bit of ego in it all, but ultimately, it aligns with the greater good
Is this a company that researches and trains their own models and tries to determine if they're safe to use and deploy? Are they auditing other companies' models? It will be interesting to see how this kind of work fits in while other companies are going about it with less scrutiny. Its like working with a self imposed disadvantage
It's not a disadvantage, it's virtue signalling lies because they know once the legislators start shitting their pants and trying to ban AGI they hope that they (and they alone) will be trusted with it.
i think "straight-shot" just emphasize they lab is focused on one objective, without detours or side goals. like money or something

That makes absolutely no sense. Ignoring the fact that AGI automatically becomes ASI, Ilya would not waste any money or resource creating ISS if OpenAI had achieved AGI internally. It would be too late to build any security roadmap.

@@bdown Kid, you're saying AGI was achieved internally, when it doesn't make any kind of sense. AGI means it can do everything any human being on this planet can do, including Terence Tao. If this were the case, scaling would be essentially simple and we would already have AGI. OpenAI already mentioned that the internal models are slightly better than GPT4 and that no substantial improvement was achieved in any model. Oh my god, boy. You said something before about architects and AGI. You have no idea what you're talking about.
