- 01/23/16 at University Heights during the Blizzard of 2016. Metro North express train to Poughkeepsie blasts through the station with horn at 4:42 pm. Led by P32AC-DM 213 it almost knocks me out with plowed snow! Should have listened to my new friend Rick who warned me but i just stared in disbelief lol. I was ok and the guy who was waiting on the last train and I laughed about it. But we both agreed it was so cool! This also be a deadhead too not sure. Next stop, Croton-Harmon, NY. Enjoy!

I remember this. This was winter storm Jonas. The snow was so bad that the NY Islanders had to postpone a game that was supposed to take place that weekend against Philadelphia. I went to Australia in May 2023 and they don’t get snow there. When I sent videos of a snowstorm this past winter to them, they were like “WOW!!”
Could hurt depending upon the consistency of the snow!
It didn't hurt so much, was just powdery snow. Still it packed a decent punch. The guy with me didn't even get hit he just stayed inside the warming booth lol.

I once did a video of LIRR action at the Queens Village Station during the PM Rush Hour as an after-school thing, and about 34 seconds into the video, a train comes flying past the station and the wind was extremely strong that it almost appeared to kill my camera.

Yes, he did! I almost forgot this was the Metro North unit with his name, lol.
Ya know when penn central stopped shoveling the snow at the stations on the Upper Harlem line they were called out for trying to hurt ridership so they could abandon it. When metro north does it it’s just called winter.
Haha, they were a bit overwhelmed. This was during the Blizzard of 2016 and that was the last Hudson Line train for the day.
I’m so glad I live in the south USA after seeing this video.
I'll never forget that day. This is the most it's ever snowed in New York. I am a bit jealous of all the warm weather and unused tennis courts down south.

It was funny to look at the snow being blown and knocking over the camera but I feel very sorry about the fact that you got blown by the plow of snow while filming.
It's hilarious and no my camera was fine, it was in my hand. I chose to turn my body so the snow wouldn't ruin it and hit me in the face!

Thanks! I was actually standing by the entrance to the weather shelter and turned as the snow hit my coat. Fun times, I'm hoping for another storm like that this season because of El Nino. 2016 was the last time we had a strong one.

But I didn't fall. I braced for impact and turned my shoulder and head. I did have that wow moment afterwords... what can I say. That was the best day ever.

They were overwhelmed with over 27 inches of snow. It's usually safe.
@@monica012077 I worked for British Rail in my youth. Had one winter like that. It snowed nonstop for eighteen hours. I did a twelve hour shift doing nothing but shovel snow. But that was exceptional for us.

It was during a blizzard and they shut the system down. This was the last outbound train along this branch.

If it was frozen chunks of ice yes, but it was fresh fallen snow. You're thinking of the Amtrak at Rhinecliff. Those were chunks of ice, the passengers were on a low platform and the Amtrak was going 30 mph faster than this Metro North(60 mph).

oh come on lol I wish I could actually see this happen but pan am goes slow and its not really this awesome at 10mph... But if there is a big enough snow bank sometimes it stops them and yes its happened with 2 gp9's...
Wow only 10 mph. But still has to be pretty neat especially from a low platform. Maybe one of the Downeaster trains will break the snow at a good speed.
