If the Beatles tried to make it today, you'd have never heard of them. No label today dares to take a chance on anything independent or different. Only artists using proven hit formulas see the light of day. Corporate America has taken over the arts.
Yes, I get hooked in on certain music ... but it has to actually sound like music! The problem as I see it is largely technical and can be summed up in just a few keywords: Compression, Limiting, Autotune, Chorus and Quantization. What these mixing tools do is suck the humanity, the life, right out of music. Real music, played live by a band is dynamic, it's mistimed, people miss notes, etc. It has been said that no band or orchestra ever plays the same song exactly the same way twice... and that is the human feel that all these fancy perfectionist tools suck right out of it. Todays music is largely mechanical sounding when compared with older music. Where it once took some skill and talent to be a good musician, now all you need is fancy software to fix your inadequacies.... and it shows.
I have to agree that music is not the same anymore and there are several reasons for this. One is that some artists sample others music and use it in their tunes. Another is the way a lot of music is mastered to be brighter in it's overall sound which I really dislike. One other reason is the way a recording made using 2 inch tape which has a warmer tone to it.
There will always be the nostalgia factor for those born into a particular era but the quality of music has gone down hill since the late 70's. That is a fact. Maybe because it's now controlled by a few individuals or maybe the better musical ideas have been done. I can relate to 30's, 40's and 50's music and hear their beauty. I have NO prejudice against a great song. Why would I? There have been great songs from the 80's on but they are far and few between. Also, there are a lot of folks doing first reaction videos. Check out how amazed they are at how good music was. Sad state of affairs for pop music these days.
My favorite music as a child of 10 were the works of the masters. Tchaikovsky and others. My choice of music today is because of my absorption of the classical stuff. Mainstream music does not exist in my choices.
You're missing out on the joys of songwriting/lyricism, production, etc... Pop/mainstream music uses a different bag of tools to create meaning/evoke emotions. I've enjoyed classical since childhood as well, but it's apples & oranges.
Today’s music is poorly, engineered over compressed rubbish. There are some really good singers but very bad. Songs there are also good ones but to few too mansion the ones that are good will stand the test of time the rest will fade into oblivion 😂

I agree 100%
And it's image over talent. "Don't worry if you have no talent, modern tech can make you a star!"
Me? I'm a Megadeth fan, amongst a few others.

That's a shame ... there's some real fun, toe-tapping stuff out there that you're missing.
