Song 1: Call Me the Breeze - JJ Cale (covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd) Song 2: After Midnight - JJ Cale (covered by Eric Clapton) Song 3: Cocaine - JJ Cale (covered by Eric Clapton)
JJ is such an important artist. What a great catalogue. One of the artists Tom Petty covered the most in concert (Travelin’ Light, Thirteen Days, Call Me the Breeze, I’d Like To Love You Baby, etc.). Mike Campbell still does “Humdinger” to this day. And sometimes “Rock & Roll Records.” And of course, Clapton! I like the track “I’ll Make Love to You Anytime” from Clapton’s “Backless” album in 1978. Long live JJ.
what a gorgeous guitar , the color is just intoxicating , like a whiskey walnut brown almost red rosewood , stunning , I've never seen anything like it , and all the gold just puts it over the top , to say nothing of the tone , the nicest guitar ever on GOTD. And the bass is pretty cool too , great sound from it , thanks guys , thanks Norm for sharing your amazing collection.
Darn. By “early AVRI” I had hoped you’d be referring to the first 2-3 years of the AVRI line, when they were still made at the Fullerton plant. The AVRIs (not called that name back then) were launched partway through 1982, all of 1983 and most of the way into 1984 before production ceased, the company was purchased from CBS and the factory was closed forever.
Edibles at night just ripping it up! And leaving us wanting more more more x 👍🎸👍 x and what can I say about the guitars other than wow! J.J Cale absolute legend 🎸🎸
I really enjoy your GOTD vids, Michael. You are a top drawer player and practically nailed JJ Kale's feel. Along with that, you and Todd jell very well. If you haven't already, start a band!
Oddly enough, the rhythm chords sounded crunchy on that rosewood guitar, but the lead sounded smooth and soaring! What a cool combination of sounds. I love it
Killer episode boys.... E@D doing there thang again that was super sweet JJ Cale and his music lives on in every guitarist for sure...hey Jen top notch as usual......
Great video, good playing and nice guitars ... might want to check your inventory for any now pretty rare FBX's hiding in the store and also keep an ear out for the sound of caterpillar tracks heading down Ventura Boulevard
I remember when Eric Clapton issued that live album that contained “Cocaine.” Clapton played the first solo and then Albert Lee cut him to ribbons in the second solo. I guess it’s no wonder A.L. didn’t stay in E.C.’s band very long.
Are you impressed ? Yeah , A little bit .😂 You kill me ,Jen . I'm here for Lemmo &Todd of course , but i saw the guitar just minutes before , in the warehouse vid ,and it was really nice of you ,to let us hear that beatiful instrument . Thanks guys . Kisses Jen ,byeeee
With all the vintage guitars that have passed through Norm's over the years, and the "knowledge" you all have acquired, you guys always miss it on the strings. I have the largest vintage string stash/collection in the world. Feel free to contact me and I'll gladly discuss strings with you.
Jen you might be holding the camera but if you don’t tell these kids what to do n remind them this n that I know the whole video would fall apart great job. And you terrible edibles are not bad at all guys how many percent T are the edibles haha 😆
It's great to see the younger generation have an appreciation for jj Cale music.✌️✌️✌️🤠👍👍👍👍

Actually call me the breeze was also covered by clapton and I think it was a better version than lynyrd skynyrd
@@mcspankies1799 I think I've heard Eric's version, but I guess Skynyrd's is more well known
@@mcspankies1799 check out john mayers version, best imo.
J.J. Cale's life may have ended in Cali, but it started in Oklahoma baby! It's that Okie soul that made his music so great.
✌🏻
His life ended in Colombia?

Just amazing. Nothing but love!

Does anyone know if this guitar was used on any of JJ Cale's recordings or was it used for live gigs?
I would pay good American money to see these guys play live in a full band. Excellent!
Radical. That Gold Crest is droolworthy. Don't forget to bring a towel.
Nice jam guys! Killing it both on bass & guitar! Just great and entertaining all in one, thanks guys!
JJ Cale
Him and Don Williams, got me
This far. Thanks y'all.
Bob
WOW BEST THUMPING THURS EVER
New and improved presentation. Best yet.
Killer episode boys.... E@D doing there thang again that was super sweet JJ Cale and his music lives on in every guitarist for sure...hey Jen top notch as usual......

You gotta do more two for one guitar of the day. They sounded terrific.

Thanks for the info Todd. The history was interesting.
Masterful. if that doesn't make you a JJ Cale fan check your pulse
Love this combo 😎
immortal JJ Cale -- amazing heritage, guys.
Was the bass plugged in?
Great job guys. 🤙
I really dig Todd's funky lobster claw right hand technique. It's working really well with this bass.
Class 👍
The color of that p bass is awesome
Great video, good playing and nice guitars ... might want to check your inventory for any now pretty rare FBX's hiding in the store and also keep an ear out for the sound of caterpillar tracks heading down Ventura Boulevard
Nice playing fellas, that is a very very nice guitar
thanks folks...that was the good $hi£
RIP JJ CALE the Tulsa sound......
I remember when Eric Clapton issued that live album that contained “Cocaine.” Clapton played the first solo and then Albert Lee cut him to ribbons in the second solo. I guess it’s no wonder A.L. didn’t stay in E.C.’s band very long.
Does the Crest using the Filtertron Pickup?
No, they are Johnny Smith pickups, not unlike mini humbuckers I would say.
Good JJ set by the EAN... I'm sure EC would be interested in both of those! Better give him a call!
Tank you Tank you Betty much lol, really that was awesome, thank you
Was the word "rim" possibly a misprint for the word, "trim"?
Nope, technically speaking in luthiery the sides are rims.
Call Me The Breeze
After Midnight
Cocaine (covered by Eric Clapton)
- J.J. Cale
Thank you Tod for the Jerry shoutout. Play more Dead!
Edibles at lunch having fun and getting paid for it
Is that noise in the background someone trying to break into Norms or repairing a guitar....
Great guitars, nice jam
The Rim is sides between the top and back
Gotta love the okie boys
Why do people autograph a guitar where your arm is going to be? Inquiring minds want to know.
they simply don't think about such things
Is that bass salted or unsalted. Sweet buttery color.
I really really miss Todd.
Well, I got that green light, baby.
Great job guys! Thank you Jen! 👍👍👍✌🏼
Very nice. I must say there are some grumpy people commenting today.
I think the other guy balances things out a bit..... they should do more of this
Michael Slow Hand Lemmo
Going by the neck joint it looks like it was made in 69... Hi Jen
That is an Effin' beautiful Crest guys ! I would like to see you do a demo of JJ's Harmony ! Loved JJ ! Thanks Jen,Lemmo, and Todd !
Man I was named after haha great video guys
how could you not talk about the pickguard?! wth is that thing? Is it wood?
I guess you should have been there to remind them LOL
It's clearly made of wood
Rosewood.
Cool some jj Cale mama said!!
Cool
Todd lookin’ good...
Can’t believe you didn’t play Clyde.
Get Lucas Nelson in there one of these days!
Nice bass
Was hoping for, 'Crazy Mama' .... but you guys tore it up ...
Wow !! What a nice guitar.. I love a natural wood tone guitar..Really shows the grain..
thank god marc is gone!! All we would be hearing is POOPY BROWN
Ya but at least Mark didn't say, if you wanna know about this guitar look it up on google
You know you loved his corny humor!
With all the vintage guitars that have passed through Norm's over the years, and the "knowledge" you all have acquired, you guys always miss it on the strings.
I have the largest vintage string stash/collection in the world. Feel free to contact me and I'll gladly discuss strings with you.
Very funny laid back and cu cu cool.
Nice playing!
I play bass and that is a horrible place for a autograph, when I play my right forearm would be taking the signature of with time. 😔
Anyone else recognize lemmo was playing with the round end of the pick? Lol
You get a warmer tone and leads sound more legato. Ive seen a lot of acoustic players do it as well as a few blues guys.
can I have it?
Заебись сыграли!
Jen you might be holding the camera but if you don’t tell these kids what to do n remind them this n that I know the whole video would fall apart great job. And you terrible edibles are not bad at all guys how many percent T are the edibles haha 😆
It's a little known fact.. the song was originally titled "Codeine".. but I talked JJ into changing it after a couple of rails...
Killer Crest. Just screams 1970s Laurel Canyon.
After Midnight... we gonna sell alot of shoes... lol
I absolutely love you guys! Mark was a hard act to follow, but you've made the show your own and I look forward to Thursdays.
That Crest is an outstanding guitar and I loved the JJ Cale tribute boys (and the nod to Jerry).
Normal service resumed on GOTD after the blip on Wednesday. Nice playing boys.
Nice to see the band back together! Nothing better for a Thursday! However! Gotta do a Maton!

They Call Me The Breeze...
Gold Crest ? Great but i'll keep my AS-73 ;)
Less talking, more playing.
