The blue guys were technically the bad guys because they wanted the gold and the first red squad were ambushed on route to a base or something.

why did they have muskets? they were not in use until the late 16th-17th centuries, and middle age Europe ended in about the 15th century.

Those are clearly spanish/portuguese soldiers, british soldiers wore tricorns, not helmets
