The Guardians of The Galaxy are a group of very flawed individuals in the Marvelous MCU. Nothing sums up their beautiful flaws better than the Farewell Yondu moment, a rather Marvelous Scene. I guess you could say that HiTop Films has a flawed relationship with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so instead HiTop Films is discussing this One Marvelous Scene. I relate to Rocket Raccoon in a lot of ways, hopefully you goons feel the same. Hopefully we all can relate to the flaws of Yondu and The Guardians. Because without flaws, there is no Marvel.

I had the same question, why do I love the originals and not the new characters, then I spoke to my wife. Her answer: maybe because when you saw the originals you were a young boy just enjoying movies and now you are an adult trying to understand why you enjoy something. So smart my wife. I stopped trying to over analyze things and now I just try to have fun, and that worked with Captain Marvel, flawed movie but I enjoyed it. I'm not saying it will be the same for you, just sharing what worked for me. Great video as always.

I don't always agree with you but I have a little nugget of "wisdom" I guess. During one of those snl retrospectives Chevy chase said there comes a time when you have to pass the show on the next generation. Now I'm paraphrasing but I remember when it happened to me. I'm just guessing but for you, it's time to hand the mcu to the next generation.

Also, for Peter Parker, for a lot of us, that's not OUR peter. Nothing wrong with the performance, but for us who grew up in the 00s, the Raimi Spider-Man films will be our version of the character. To compare, I just saw Into the Spider-Verse recently for the first time, and I realized that the reason why I liked that film more than Homecoming was that it doesn't have Peter Parker as the main character. He's a main character, but the main character slot for the film goes to Miles, who never got the big screen treatment. So his origin story would be new in comparison.

@@guyr3618 Apples and oranges, really. Of course you'll get a more nuanced story when you dont have to juggle 10 years and 60 characters. Yondu's scene is definitely one of the most emotional scenes in all of the MCU, but (spoilers for endgame ahead)....

Man rewatching the MCU is great. I find new appreciation for movies I thought were just ok when I first watched them. Rockets my 2nd favorite character in the MCU, behind Spidey, and it's basically because of the GOTG movies. I loved the first one and I thought the 2nd was just ok, until I rewatched them. I didn't hate the 2nd movie like some critics and fans did because it wasn't as good as the first, I just thought it was ok. Then I rewatched them and I think I like the 2nd movie more than the first now. The 2nd movie just flashes its characters out a lot more, especially Rocket. I still love the first one but it only dives into Rockets origin just a tiny bet and makes Nebula somewhat of a generic villain. When I rewatched the 2nd movie I realised how much it develops Rocket, Nebula, and Yondu so much more and now I love this movie because of that

You know it's an amazing day when Hitop films, Nando vs Movies, Browntable, Captain Midnight, and the Take release videos all in the same day. But seriously I agree that the GOTG movies feel like they were created by one vision and not in a conveyer belt and despite my many flaws with Vol 2 the emotion and the character moments is definitely not one of them that euology scene. A theme in this marvellous moment scene is character, characters aided by their performances and the writing of course. Honesty the characters are the best thing about the MCU they I think what kept audinces invested and hooked for 11 years and what brought me back even when I was a bit burned out with the MCU back in the Age of Ultron days. Growing up, my dad was both distant and abusive. He beat me, but would also isolate me. He would talk down to me like a Preacher and would hold the wrath of God over me, then claim how holy he was and how if I wanted to go to Heaven, I had to be a better person. He would hit me for seemingly no reason, although to be completely fair there were times I believe I legitimately deserved it. However, kicking me in the ribcage in the snow in the middle of winter because I had an asthma attack? Throwing a carving knife at me because I asked if the dishes were clean in the dish washer? Taking a steel can of peas and smashing it against the back of my head? Choke-slamming me against a stone wall? Yeah. That's what I grew up with.
But I never called the police on him, nor reported him during my youth. I loved him, and I still do. And no, not in some twisted kind of Stockholm-esque Syndrome kind of way. I loved him growing up because he was my father. He was there for me when I needed him the most. He taught me how to fish, how to camp, how to chop wood, how to drive, how to do construction, etc. He taught me how to think on my feet and be a man, not a child seeking handouts.
I loved my dad because he was my dad. The good came with the bad, and I understood this at a young age. I saw my friends who had only one parent and I saw how miserable they were. I knew that getting rid of my dad meant I get rid of the fun and good times, too. And so, I endured.
Though, this didn't stop my heart from filling with rage and hate. I was violent, and to this day (30 years old) I still hold deep levels of unsatiated rage in my heart. I am currently seeing a professional to help calm my emotions and move forward. Part of therapy is being open and honest, and so that is why I am comfortable sharing online like this. It gets it off my chest, even if it's to people I'll never see in the real world.
Well, unfortunately my father passed away when I was 18 from cancer. I have now lived almost half of my life without him and I still hold deep and mixed feelings. I love him dearly and would trade everything in the world to see him again, and yet at the same time I hate him with a passion so intense that if there is a Hell, I truly hope he is burning in it for what he put me through and the trauma I've had to endure all of these years later. I have trust issues, I can't form meaningful relationships, I have anger problems, and I even have nightmares. I've had to stop anti-depressants because they would pull from my subconscious and I would have nights filled with violent dreams between he and I.
All of that is to say, I cried during this scene. I saw myself in the broken shoes of Rocket and Peter with their anger and loss. I saw my dad in Yondu's shoes with his violence, yet charming and helpful ways.
The fact my father was also in the US Military made the Ravager Funeral all that more heartfelt for me. It drew me back to my own father's 21 gun salute.
I still miss you, Dad. --- "We've had a rocky past; You've done things you regret, and I've done things I regret. But I want you to know that I love you, and I forgive you." --- The actual words I whispered in his ear while he laid on his deathbed after the surgery failed to remove his tumors. Those words still hold true, today, 12 years later.
And that, my friends, is why I cried during this scene. It will forever be my #1 favorite MCU movie, because it's the only one that made me feel, truly feel, Human.

This is the reason I think Marvel has beat out DC recently in film. As many issues they have they are still able to relate to our human side like Batman V Superman and suicide squad never could. This seen always makes me think of my grandfather and the 50s and 60s music we used to listen to like Roy Oberson and Sinatra. The idea of Peter playing the music that makes him remember the great times as Yondu finally gets to die the death of a man who fulfilled his role as a father and the ravengers come to say farewell just makes me teary man.

'if guardians 1 is about sharing pain, then guardians 2 is about learning to accept that pain' perfectly incapsulates why these movies make such a brilliant pairing. The same themes, portrayed by (mostly) the same characters, but shown in a different light. It's a really good look at the motion of trauma and the realistic process of healing. James Gunn is brilliant at this.
    Thanks HiTop!!!

it's one of the reasons why I'm confident to say that the Guardians trilogy already is the best MCU trilogy regardless if vol. 3 is out yet or not cause I already know it will be just as good as the first two.

So it's a few days out now and you're probably never gonna see this, but...thanks for making this one. I've seen all these movies, I like most of them, but I LOVE Vol 2.This scene is my favorite in the entire series. And after the hell that trolls put the director through, the meta-textual connections to James Gunn's own life came to light, and showed how he's grown as a person. It BLEEDS into this scene in such a raw and personal way. Imperfection is what makes it perfect. Because, yeah...it IS perfect.
