I wish they would sell like a $5-10 mini expansion for the original that adds the variant tiles. I like the idea for spicing up the original Azul but I don't need the chocolate theme.
I am definitely the market for this game. I love chocolate, especially elegant chocolates and I've been putting off getting Azul because every time I look at the cover the busy & bright oranges give me an unpleasant sensation of visual clashing. So, I like the Chocolate Edition better and am now looking at buying a copy. But I definitely understand that there are those who like intense warm colors, not saying one is better than the other, just saying that I do believe there is justification for a market for both.
Thank you for explaining this. I'm in the exact same boat as you, and finally picked this up, but couldn't quite put my finger on why. The chocolate color scheme is just so much more appealing to my eye.
Definitely prefer the chocolate version. I skipped Azul when it first came out because 'abstract with mosaic tiles' was just 'meh' to me. The way the pieces actually look like gourmet chocolates pulled me in, and it ended up being one of my family's most played games last year.
I agree with this. The presentation of the Chocolatier version isn't as bright and vibrant as the original, but somehow I just PREFER the darker, richer colors. Since I already own Azul Mini, if I end up buying the big boy, it would be Master Chocolatier. The factory tile variant also makes MC more appealing to me! Really glad to find someone else who agrees because most people seem not to!
I do prefer the bright color tiles but if they sold the alternative tile holders in the standard artwork I would order that from their website. I could probably make them but don’t really like doing that kind of project.
My gf lost my original version of azul so it gave me an excuse to pick up this copy. I like the chocolate theme way more. I haven't even played the alternate rule set yet.
I have 3 different versions of Patchwork just cause they're pretty and the added variety is nice(even just visual; though different pieces would be better); so I get the appeal of re-skins. Don't have Azul and I don't particularly care; but I'm happy to see more games releasing alternative versions when it makes sense. I doubt this is going to be a big trend but still.
Am I the only person who thinks both versions are beautiful? Lol, it seems weird to say the original is garish, but also, it seems weird to say this one is "brown" and nothing else.
yeah, there's clearly cream tiles, burgundy tiles, light brown, dark brown, and seafoam green tiles (only two tile types are brown, really) i would say that the original is more bright and vibrant, but i actually prefer the deeper, richer colors of Master Chocolatier
While I find nothing wrong with the original tiles when viewed individually, but when placed together they look awful. As a result, I went with this one.
Less pretty (imho) Slightly more variation I already own the original Azul so I wont get this... bit I wouldnt mind spendinh like 5€ to get the new factories
Disappointed they kept the score track at the top of each player's board and not do a separate score board like the other Azuls. One nudge and you lose your score, very annoying.
Yeah, it's poor game design to have the scoring tracks look like that with tiny, lightweight cubes without any kind of indentation. I had a really bad experience with Terraforming Mars (so much so that I stopped playing completely after just two games) because the player boards were so bad. That's why the only version of Azul I own right now is the Azul Mini.
Welp. Thanks for this - you just saved me the price of the new one. I'll take painter's tape to stick on my display circles and draw the symbols, to get the same effect - to try out.
I get that people like chocolate, but I never looked at my copy of Azul and said "Boy I wish this was browner"
"let me see a couple shades of gray and brown" -Zee Garcia when referring to Dune

There could just be an overlay (maybe like the crystal mosaic material) for the original factory tiles that displays the gameplay variation.
Azul is my sister's favorite game so I got her a copy of this chocolate version for Christmas. She was very excited when she opened it.

@@edwardmemwah1610me too! In fact I hope they make a mini version of chocolate Azul
The new one looks so much nicer. Love the clean look it'll have on my shelf opposed the the garish original one.
My OCD went off the charts when he mixed the tiles together LOL... glad to see I'm not the only one,
Sorry to hear you have OCD, hope you're getting the help you need
I really struggle with this one. Azul means blue in Portuguese. If I owned this, I would refer to it as "Blue: Brown edition"
It's the same in Spanish, Blue: Brown Edition 😂
LOL!
😂
😂 True, but in this case I thought it was short for azulejos, which means tiles (?) admittedly the blue and white ones typical of Portugal and Spain
@@birchlover3377 It is short for azulejos but nobody calls it that, hence the confusion
Whichever version you go for, they both taste the same
lol nice
I have Azul Mini but also want to get the Master Chocolatier version because of the theme.

I think the original Azul tiles look garish. This looks so much better. I might actually get this version.
What an idiotic comment
I wish they looked more like chocolates.
The varient could have been a micro expansion. I like how King of Tokyo does those.
Azul has been on my shelf of shame because of the gaudy tiles.
Now that I have the chocolate version I will finally play it.
I do prefer the bright color tiles but if they sold the alternative tile holders in the standard artwork I would order that from their website. I could probably make them but don’t really like doing that kind of project.
Did he just mix up the tiles and chocolates? Seems wreck less. Living on the edge at Dice Tower.
Wreck less? Or did you mean reckless? 🙂
@@enchantedears7320 lol either or is fine.
😂 remember component drops?
If Starburst made chocolate/coffee candy, they would look like those tiles.
Looks cool; I'll just custom the variant though.

Just curious how does one lose a board game?
@@JonReid01 honestly I dont know, she also lost our copy of patch work.
@@JonReid01 My best guess is that she left it someplace that wasn't her home. Or it's packed into a box she's forgotten to look through.

Great idea, keep taking money from those people who think they need every version of a game. Think I need a game company, candy from a baby 😅
They don't look much like chocolate (pralines) and could have done much more with it.

I think it's because this way the Crystal Mosaic overlays are compatible with it.

Aaaand the game survived Tom manhandling it. 🤣
agreeed that the original looks way better. quite disappointing they didnt come out with a better theme
Hmmm... not going to buy this, already have the original. I think it is cute, though.
