    If you're composting veggie scraps,turn them into a smoothie with your blender before you put them in the compost pile and you will get usable compost a lot faster.

    We've had a compost pile before. Yes, you have to turn it over every so often. The problem is you invite unwanted pests in a compost pile so we just started burying vegetable scraps, leaves and grass cuttings directly into the dirt in the garden. It works great. Adding red worms helps too.

      I tried a few experiments like that; buried a bunch of organic food scraps then planted on top. The plants that had the addition really erupted and were much healthier. Will have to try adding leaves, unneeded grass/dried grasses and other mulch this year. Am not keen on having a compost if I can help it in any way.

    Whoever wrote this, hasn't a clue about what they're telling you. It should never be a 50 carbon/50 nitrogen ratio--not even close. Follow her guidelines, and you'll have a pile that won't be composting, but will stink so much that your neighbors will petition to have you thrown out of the community. That's what you'll get with a 50/50 ratio. It depends on what materials you're using, but the lowest ratios--such as when using ashes or wood for carbon--are around 25 parts carbon to every 1 part nitrogen. For leaves, it's 60 to 1, and for newspaper it's 175 to 1, but newspaper and other paper products are just filler. There's no nutrients in newspaper and other paper products so it makes worthless compost. Recycle your papers, instead, to make more papers, and stick with unprocessed organic materials for composting. The key is to get RICH compost that has heated up high enough to kill seeds and bad fungi and bacteria in the pile. The ratios are all about attaining that heat. If you don't get that heat, you'll have a stinky pile and when you use it you'll be spreading live seeds and live microbes where you might not want them. Also in order to get that heat, the pile has to be at least a certain size, depending on what materials you're using. Typically, at least around 3ft. x 3ft. x 3ft, but the bigger the better, and as it gets bigger you need a means of getting oxygen into it to keep feeding the heat.

    • @callmeishmael3031
      @callmeishmael3031 6 лет назад +3

      Yes, of course. That's what compost is for. You might want to add some epsom salt and a higher potassium fertilizer, as well. If you're not feeding your plants you'll not have many fruit, if any.

    • @BasedLyfe21
      @BasedLyfe21 6 лет назад +1

      So I’ve been blending my veggie and fruit peelings and just putting it in a bowl in my fridge ! Do you suggest just putting it some dirt and letting it sit? I’m sure I can’t just mix it in the dirt my plants are already in?

      You can just take it out to your garden and pour it around your plants and throw some dirt over it. Throw eggshells into the blender, too. Fruits need calcium.

    Way too much effort for most people. Just throw your non-acidic veggie waste onto the heap. When you want to use some compost, just dig from the bottom of the heap. This is where the compost will be fully broken down. Most plastic compost boxes have a sliding door at the bottom where you can dig out from.

      Jackie Shmueli wow it’s a shame palestinians can’t enjoy gardening because of Israeli settlers uprooting them. Signs, wonders, miracles, visions, water baptism, laying on hands, speaking in tongues, etc.., were for the Jews, the Dispensation of Times Past and Times to come (that's the Tribulation period).
    We are in the Dispensation of Grace and Paul is our apostle to the Church (Believers in the Body of Christ). Dispensation of Times to Come, is not that far away, it will come right after the Church is raptured (caught up). Right after the Church Age ends, it will be the Times of Jacob's Trouble (tribulation period will take place right after). Please know your Doctrines, rightly dividing the word of truth, so you can have SOUND DOCTRINE. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJB
    If anyone is reading this message, please read 'till the end and I pray that you will get washed and saved in the precious blood of the Lamb, who is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
    Ephesians 5:16 KJB - 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
    We are in the end times, what's happening in the world right now is just a sample before the tribulation will take place right after the rapture of the Church (all Believers who are in Christ Jesus, saved in the Gospel of our Salvation in 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4 KJB) What's going to happen during the tribulation time, will be hell on earth. So please everyone, get saved NOW before it's too late for your souls (those who are lost and continue to sin, even when they know the truth). God's wrath is upon you, sinners in the hands of an angry God.
    How can a lost soul get saved? Here's how you can get saved by BELIEVING The Gospel of our Salvation in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJB - [1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    Jesus Christ gave this Gospel to Paul who is our apostle to the dispensation of the Church Age of Grace, so that lost souls can get saved. It's the ONLY Gospel that saves lost souls!!
    Ephesians 2:8-9 KJB - 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    2 Timothy 2:15 KJB - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
    Praise God ALWAYS, Amen!!
    Please get saved before it's too late!! There's 1 Eternity to choose from, Heaven or Hell, choose wisely for your souls!!
    Grace and Peace to all in Christ!!

      @@wolfsangeleyes So are you 100% certain that if you died tomorrow, your soul will go to Heaven? Please think about this question before you answer. I am a soul-winner for Christ, I lead lost souls to the Lord Jesus Christ so that He can save them from going to Hell.
      John 14:6 KJB - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
      I post everywhere I can to reach out to as many lost souls because Jesus Christ is coming for His church (those who are saved in the Body of Christ). Tell me are you saved in Christ Jesus? If you are not, you will be left behind in the tribulation period where all hell will break loose and then, you will see the wrath of God fall on all those who are ungodly and are of this world.
      Please get saved NOW, before it's too late for your soul. Grace and Peace to you in Christ Jesus!!
      Here is a message for lost souls - Jesus Christ is God, manifest in the flesh and He came on earth to die for our sins. He bore our sins on the cross of Calvary. Have you accepted His free gift of Salvation? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Have you repented of all your sins? Have you truly BELIEVED from your heart that Jesus Christ is LORD? Have you BELIEVED in the death, burial and resurrection found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 in the KING JAMES Bible? That's how a lost soul can get saved.
      Remember that it's NOT what we do that gets us saved, it's what Jesus Christ DID on the cross of Calvary, that's what SAVES a lost soul.
      All you have to do to be saved, and on your way to heaven is place your TRUST in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ and nothing else, as sufficient for your salvation, (Romans 3:25 KJB - "Whom God hath set forth to be a PROPITIATION through FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;")
      (Propitiation means the act of appeasing wrath, Jesus took your place on the cross.)
      Will you accept Jesus Christ as your saviour by simple faith, simply trusting in his shed Blood which is sufficient to save your soul from hell?
      The last sentence is all you must do to be saved, and that is FAITH, not works, TRUSTING in what someone else did for you is the only thing that is not a work.
      If you want to learn more about the TRUTH and get your soul saved, please subscribe to Pastor Robert Breaker’s videos and watch them, it truly will open your eyes and remove the veil of darkness and bring you into LIGHT Amen.

    Turning compost is a waste of time and fertilizer!
    After turning compost the Oxygen levels drop to less than 1% in 30 minutes so it doesn't add oxygen either!
    I just chuck all food and garden waste in my compost bin and make sure it's not to wet or dry, most people can't get the right ratio of brown and green so think there is no point composting because it's too complicated!
