  • Having NC State join the Big 12 would bring a significant boost to the conference in terms of competitive balance, geographic reach, and overall brand strength, enriching the league's football landscape. NC State, with its solid football program and passionate fan base, would be a valuable addition to the Big 12, enhancing the quality and excitement of the conference.
    Competitive Balance
NC State’s football program has consistently demonstrated strong performance in the ACC, with regular bowl game appearances and competitive play against top-tier teams. Their inclusion in the Big 12 would add another strong competitor, raising the overall level of play and ensuring that the conference remains one of the most competitive in the nation. This enhanced competitive balance would lead to more thrilling games and high-stakes matchups, drawing in fans and increasing the conference’s national visibility.
    Geographic Reach
Adding NC State would expand the Big 12’s geographic footprint into the Southeastern United States, tapping into new markets and recruiting territories. North Carolina is a state rich in football talent, and NC State’s presence in the Big 12 would give the conference access to this vital recruiting ground. This expanded footprint would not only aid in recruiting efforts but also help in building new regional rivalries and enhancing the conference’s national appeal.
    Fan Base and Atmosphere
NC State’s passionate and loyal fan base would bring vibrant energy to the Big 12. Known for their enthusiastic support, Wolfpack fans create an electric atmosphere at Carter-Finley Stadium, which would translate well to the Big 12’s dynamic game-day environments. The addition of NC State would lead to increased attendance at games and higher television ratings, further solidifying the conference's financial stability and marketability.
    Institutional Benefits
Academically, NC State is a respected institution, known for its strong engineering and research programs. This aligns with the Big 12’s commitment to academic excellence and would foster greater academic collaborations and partnerships within the conference. The academic prestige of NC State would enhance the overall reputation of the Big 12, attracting top student-athletes who value both athletic and academic success.
    Economic and Branding Impact
Economically, NC State’s inclusion would bring significant benefits to the Big 12. Increased ticket sales, merchandise revenue, and media rights deals would result from the expanded fan base and heightened interest in the conference. The Wolfpack’s strong brand, combined with the Big 12’s existing powerhouse programs, would create a more formidable and appealing conference for media partners and sponsors.
In summary, having NC State join the Big 12 would bring competitive strength, expand the geographic reach, energize fan engagement, enhance academic collaboration, and provide substantial economic benefits. These factors would collectively elevate the Big 12’s stature, ensuring its continued growth and success in the evolving landscape of college athletics.

This podcast is officially off the rails. Drake just rolls nonsensical comments off the tongue as though they are facts. NC State is not going to the Big12 and this law is not “suggesting” that at all. Knowing NC politics and how deeply engrained college football and basketball is in the state with big time rivalries is just lawmakers making sure that no matter what happens we are going to play. State and Carolina have played each other in football for 120 years and is like the Hatfields and McCoys; the Empire and the Rebellion, etc., and lawmakers will see that tradition stays alive.
I could completely see State and Carolina both going to SEC, not because they are “tied together” but because it makes sense. Or Carolina to Big 10 and State to SEC. The SEC though is the historical home of both schools since leaving the old Southern Conference (with Alabama, Auburn,Georgia, etc.) to form the ACC. If NC State fell the Big12 by some crazy sequence of events, it would be like an Utah move and just be a temporary situation.

    • @troywest7045
      @troywest7045 3 месяца назад

Yeah, I don't see NC State going to a power 2 conference. I'm not sure NC gets into one either, so they might just both end up staying in the ACC. of course if other schools leave the ACC then it will be making much less via it's media rights. That's a slow death in my opinion, but if that's the hill y'all want to die on, go right ahead. I know right about now those Beaver and Cougar fans would love to be part of the Big12 and there might come a point in time when you wish NC State had gone to the big12, instead of trying to stick together with your long time regional bros.

I attended graduate school at OU and I'm not surprised. Texas is the bigger rivalry BY FAR. There is a perception on the OU campus that OSU is just inferior. I think there is some nostalgia for playing OSU every year, but it historically has not been a competitive rivalry in football when you look at the win/loss record. I honestly believe there are some OU fans that are perfectly okay with leaving OSU behind.

I really don't see the SEC or Big 10 taking UNC. That would just dilutes the conference and kind of makes them more of a joke. Discontent within Big12 surfaces, as Utah jumps to new Acc as better fb and academic fit. While Yarmarks initial Big12 strategy of poaching started out well. To remain a peer Tier 1 (or even survive intact to ~2036), the ACC couldn't lose any from the top or dilute actual value. Absent a miracle, the ACC will deplete out from the top and has already diluted with CAL+2.

The NCAA would not allow that for obvious basketball reasons. Louisville is only one solid season away from becoming another dominant basketball program like they were in the past and with the addition of Duke…The Big 12 would basically become a G-League. If this were to happen and a couple of teams become dominant in football, the Big 12 would become elite. The sec and big 10 will do everything in their power to keep that from happening. ESPN will keep the ACC intact when realignment is all said and done. Yes, the B1G and SEC will take a few but ESPN will rework the ACC deal to mirror the Big12 media deal without any Fox involvement. Plus the ACC has the ACC network which will not pay them much monetarily but it will give the ACC more exposure across all their athletic programs. ESPN has no B1G content, no PAC content and only partial broadcast content for the Big12. ESPN will continue to stand with the SEC as its workhorse but it will also continue to stand with the ACC for its content across all the ESPN network channels. The ACC will be a strong tier two conference with 16 teams once all is said and done just as the Big12 has become. No one yet has given any strong indications that Fox or ESPN will be willing to pay the Big12 more money to go beyond their 16 members. Unless the networks are willing to pay additional tv money, none of the conferences are adding anyone. That’s the realistic point through all of this.

What's going to really hurt is the conference payout when the top 4 or 5 bolt from the acc; espn may rework the offer for around a 50% markdown for the remaining schools, which will start the mass exodus of the the middle tier schools in the acc. The schools that really need to worry are BC, Cuse, and Wake.

@tarheel7406 -wow, is that what teach at the Tobacco Road schools; how to speak condescending 101. Just saying that when the top 4 from the acc (clem, fsu, unc, and insert a 4th) bolt for the P2, they take 50 to 60% of the value of the conference, here's a breakdown of a couple of the remaining schools:
      Wake- future sun belt member
Syracuse- can't fill the mini dome, never going return
BC-search continues off the edge of the earth for success in a sport other than hockey
Cal/stanford- let's just not go there
Smu- one time fundraiser still won't change much, hard area to raise your profile with other Texas schools firmly entrenched
So let's look at the bottom of the B12
Cincinnati-only g5 to make the playoff, not that long ago
Byu-nationwide fanbase, will eventually thrive in the b12
Ucf-red hot recruiting grounds, energetic fan base
Houston- to be fair, see smu minus the fundraising lol
This could be broken down further; the B12 was able to backfill the loss of texas/oklahoma just enough to stay relevant. In the case of acc, there is not a remaining school that's available to backfill with.
