- Litchfield has tinkered with the standard Alpine A110 giving it more power and a few other tweaks. Is it a necessary improvement?

So good to see Alex Goy back… he is a wonderful guy! Met him at the Detroit auto show a few years ago, and he was great to chat with.
gush
So it was just a one night stand?
If we only could buy a Renault A110 in the US! I would have one.
Really
Same
Same, shame closest thing to it here is the 4C. It's alright but the A110 can actually be used every day if you wanted to. 4C is little more a stretch in that regard.
Ditto!
how to swap a LS or HEMI into this RC toy? 😁
As long as they're around in 15 years, and we haven't destroyed everything yet, I'll import one.
The price might skyrocket by then
Good luck with fuel prices in 15 years...
My heart sinks when I click on a carfection video and it’s this goon.
Welcome back Alex! Thoroughly enjoy your presentation style.
Lovely to see we still have a few interesting cars in 2021 :)
I can literally feel the joy driving a Litchfield A110 on roads like these. A fantastic review 😍
Thank God you're back ALEX!!! You're like fresh air to the channel 🙌🏼
Man I really REALLY missed you on this channel! I can finally start to watch again!
That red paint is Gorgeous 😍🤤
In the colonies, we cannot obtain these and that is tragic. Only had seen 'the blue'...fine... but that deep pigmented red, glorious!
Another great video from Carfection. Great to see Alex again, as always!
Always love coverage of the A110
That's my dream car!... Forget about supercars and hypercars and everything else, this is what i want!
"It's designed for the joy of driving, not setting lap records", no manual option, because "machines are faster than man" huh
Yeah, as if people get manuals because they're faster, it's all about the joy of driving and paddles aren't it.
i commented before reading the comments and said almost exactly this. well said!
For real they don't offer any manual option because they knew no one would buy it
@@joachimpearson4892 ?? People would definitely buy a manual a110 lmao
No manual option because "enthusiasts" will talk manuals up to the moon but never buy them. Welcome to real life
Nice to see Alex back
The 'annoying lump' as you call it, for changing volume, stations and tracks on the media player is ideally placed, which is why it remains there over the years. You can keep pressure on the steering wheel whilst operating those controls, If you put the controls on the wheel, such as on the Nissan Leaf that I have to use at work for site visits, you have to effectively take your hand off of the wheel to operate those buttons, so control of the wheel is lost by one hand
Alex & Henry are some of the best car reviewers. Wishing for their duo review.
Great car, great reviewer, great video. More, please!
Fucking A you’re back! You’re my favorite Carfection presenter/reviewer!
Great review! More A1GOY please!
Great sound!
That rear quarter is sexy. Great looking car. Wish we had these in the US.
I do like the headlights, thats about it.
Need to see more Alex Goy videos! His Rolls Royce video from a while back was great. Need more!
The absolute last thing the A110 needs is more power! Potential buyers should spend their money on driving lessons instead
The same engine makes more power in a Megane RS. It was time to give the 300HP engine to the A110.
EUREKA - Someone who understands!
Excellent review.. Mate you're goood!!
I'm sold!
However I lack the driving skills required to seat behind her wheel.
Thank you for this excellent vídeo.
Beautiful sport car
If they made those with a manual it would be my dream car
Me too , it is a massive disappointment that it doesn’t come with a manual box
...and there goes the only people left on the face of the earth, that are its buyers, its only market...........yeah if only it was a manual I might buy it
Absolutely that's why the boxter/cayman leads this market segment. The 60k sports car is the segment where I have the money to spend on a new car and I will only buy a manual meet
@@alphatripduce based upon used car availability, the majority of Boxster/Cayman sales (in the UK at least) are PDK cars rather than manuals.
@@m1keyw
This is true but there is still the option for people who prefer a manual
Long may it continue
welcome back Alex :D
I'm loving it
wow, it's really beautiful.
I’d love one of these in the future if it’s good enough for Gordon Murray to daily it’s good enough for me 😂
Yes! More Alex!
It's my extremely crazy dream car.
As for me, this is one of the best and favorite French cars, for the sake of which you can break rule 3 F
I love its deep Raspberry color!
I was just about to comment this. I'm not a massive fan of red cars that much apart from ferraris and a couple of other cars. This red really suits it 😍 only seen them in blue.
That looks magnificent in ruby red!
that was a Litchfield wrap - check out their website
Alex…. good to see you
Absolutely nuts to build a Cayman sports car competitor from the ground up and not put a stick in
not as much as you think maybe, since it's a new car that as to be under a certain budget, and not as many people buy manuals as the internet would have you think. I guess it wasn't justifiable to put a manual in the a110.
@@Yautah yeah considering most shops do their own manual swaps it probably couldn't take that long 🤣 the numbers show dedicated sports cars like the GT3 and M3 still have nearly 30-50% take rate for manual in the US, I have no doubt Alpine would have at least a 1000 more customers with a manual.. especially given the heritage and market
@@Yautah I think in some other reviews they've mentioned this. The will was there, there just wasn't the money.
BS. Nobody buys the stick. Everyone claims to want it but I reckon 90% of Caymans are PDKs.
@@kingphiltheill yeah on the Cayman and Boxster bc Porsche has all those casual customers . Alpine does not. When you look at the Cayman GTS, GT4 or 911 GT3 you see it's almost half
“Hair dryeree” 😬. Welcome back pal 🤓. Yes I too like the Alpine A110 👍
Frustratingly for your ten year plan these aren't depreciating yet! I drove one a while ago and fell in love so have been monitoring the prices for a while.
OH MY GOD ALEX IS BACK
I’ve been hoping someone would review this! I love the A110 I’m just not sure id buy one
V nice. Would be great for a review of their M2 package.
I would love to know what Catchpole thinks of this tune.
Damn, I love this car.
I thought the gearbox was torque sensitive hence the S version does not have any more torque but does have more bhp?
The cost would have been quite informative!
The wristwatch, is it a Roue TPS? Been keeping an eye on that one for a while!
Dude, where have you been? Good job.
Amazing car to use now and still have in the future, in an electric car era...
You should check the ravage alpine a110, no mecanical improvements but an amazing looking body kit in the old group 4 style
Always good to see you my favourite bald man, Alex! You should present these more often like the old days.
real good job.... same for the Yaris.... you keep the better done...
Wish one day I can see em in North America
And it looks so good. I want a blue one 😊
I really like this car..
Lovely car and lovely video. Can't *not* see the rear as a dog doing that mad-puppy zoomies butt squat thing.
One of my favourite presenters
Perfect
Since today the a110 is my favourite car
I have to dispute the claim that the darling car of 2017 was the A110, I believe that distinction belongs to the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio. Still great review of a fantastic car.
Thats 2 cars I would love to experience !
Look's Mega in that Dark Red.....Nice
So what did they do to the engine to get the extra urge? We can expect higher boost pressure and perhaps a larger intercooler - but it would be good to know
The Mégane RS runs the same 1.8 engine and in trophy spec runs around 300bhp so I wouldn’t be surprised if the tweaks are quite minor
Here at Litchfield we like to think we know a good car when we see one and when the Alpine A110 was announced, we were quick to put a deposit down. We received the first car to come out of our local Alpine dealer and we have been enjoying this incredible car ever since. The Alpine has gone on to receive stellar reviews and so looking at areas where the car and the driving experience could be improved was going to be difficult, but the work our team have done so far has transformed the car's performance.
We are able to OBD tune the brilliant A110 1.8 TcE engine and not only improve the engine's power and torque but also enhance its driveability and throttle response. With the car's light kerb weight even modest performance gains are magnified.
For more infomation on our Alpine's developement, please keep an eye on our blog
After significant work on the dyno, road and along with data collection on track, we have developed a new calibration that transforms the A110 performance.
Programming of the ECU can be completed through the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) port so more time can be spent on honing the calibration. It also means we can revert the car back to standard at any time by uploading the original file.
Our Stage 1 upgrade lifts power significantly to 296 bhp (300 ps) and 290 lbft. That's an increase of 47 bhp and 54 lbft without sacrificing the driveability and smooth power delivery of the engine.
With the Litchfield Stage1 installed the Alpine now has the power to match its sublime chassis.
The Stage 1 upgrade also comes with our comprehensive engine warranty that allows owners to upgrade with confidence. £995:00
@@nelsonclub7722 Just a question, about the gearbox this time. Alpine hasn't increased the torque in the A110S, because according to them, that Getrag transmission can't handle more torque. So how reliable is the A110 clutch in the longer term with this mod? Especially if you switch to 'fun' (manual) mode here and then..
@@jasona2305 Absolutely no idea - I just CC'd the info from their web page - but fun fact - I know them quite well as their children go to the same school as mine - If I see Jenny or Iain I will ask!!
@@nelsonclub7722 did you?? (I'm in the 'shire too BTW)
Now we need a twin test between this and the Life110 that everyone keeps banging on about... Looks fantastic in red though must admit.
Nice car genuinely
Anyone else sigh disappointment that it wasn't Henry in the video. Noone else at carfection comes closeee to the brilliant reviews from him
Henry is my favorite, but this guy easily takes second. Watch their older videos when they still called themselves xcar. Alex (I think his name is) is a wonderful producer as well. Just a lot more direct than Henry. Watch their f12 and Pagani video
@@NatoriousGamePlay the problem is this chap has no car control at all, never have i seen him test the limits of any car, his style of reviews seem to be copied from Richard Hammond imo. He'd be better off reviewing normal everyday economy cars.
Was looking for that comment! I do agree - Henry is the best!
As long as the transmition is not burning out
European compact sportscars are the best! Audi TTRS, Alpine, Lotus, Porsche Cayman, and M2 Competition are refreshing in today's supersized offensive car lineups. Honorable mentions from the past: Porsche 993 and Ferrari F355.
Alpine champion de World of rallyes , Porsche zéro Ferrari zéro BMW zéro
His watch strap matches the colour of the car!
Hey,you might have/probably addressed this already but how have you been dealing with being compared to Ri..... that fella? In my opinion it's not a terrible thing but you are definitely your own style which I respect.
I was expecting Dan to do the review!
So. They've exceeded the manufacturer's declared torque limit for the transmission by 64 lb ft, or 27%. Not something I would be doing to mine. I'd certainly consider the Nitrons though. But I'd keep them properly absorbent, as most my mileage in the fun car is very much on rural B's
Hasn't been modded or altered to cope with that.. Odd, I thought DCT's were supposed to be the most robust for coping with lots of torque.
All comes down to durability, OEM requirements can be quite draconian but also can be fairly close to the knuckle depending on who it is & what the car is (plus a load of other considerations like cost, timing, complexity etc). That's part of the problem with the aftermarket side of things - you don't know until it's potentially too late! It maybe fine but it might not be....
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks depends on the DCT. Most are built to the spec of the engine. As in, it'll be warranty reliable for the factory power but won't be able to cope with added power, because that costs money.
I'm sure they considered that, you can put your slide rule back in your pocket protector.
They likely offer their own warranty. Brabus does for their cars as well.
Wait what?! Alex is back?
I will be forever jealous that we never got this thing here in Canada. Not so jealous that it doesn't get a manual trans tho. That's just strange, imo.
What a beautiful car though. And this Litchfield version. ouuh la la, oui oui.
Great vid...spent half of it indulging my man-crush on Alex Goy
Life suspension and geometry with Litchfield tune, I think that could be the perfect A110
Came for the car. Stayed for the watch. I see you. Haha.
What is this version got much more than the alpine 110 S ?
It's a shame that it isn't sold in the US
God that's a glorious thing.
So the big question is... Do you buy a base A110 and get Litchfield involved, or do you buy the a110s? I know a few reviewers weren't that excited by the s variant so I'm curious to know if this feels better than that one
I have driven the standard and S. I would only buy the S if I was planning on doing many track days a year. The Litchfield sounds like a sensible upgrade to keep the standard car usable everyday if you want to
Buy the Legende GT and get the 300HP from the factory plus a nicer interior then add the Nitron dampers.
Just remember the design ethos. I've not driven the Litchfield (although I'm tempted to see if I can track it down) BUT - Really - the Pure is a far far better proposition, In 90+ percentage of the time..
Hi.cool car.is enough space for head inside the car for tall people as well? i m 1,88 high,,
How did they get this colour?
Perfect for Mr. JJW!
Can I get one barebones race-spec interior??
I agree with Alpine, I agree with Litchfield.
Even more desirable. Sadly, not sold in Ireland.
Not sold in Ireland, really
The styling of the A110 is a miracle, I know it's based off the original A110 but in terms of modern car design it also clearly has the rear of an Audi TT, the front of a Porsche Cayman and the styling highlights of an Alfa Romeo. It's like the best of everything. The that 300hp engine is fairly impressive and certainly quick, but I'd rather buy the base A110 and then do a custom job and put in a lightly modded Alfa 3.2L V6, the one that they stopped making in the early 2000's, the one that is universally acknowledged as being the best sound NA V6 in existence, sure it 'only' makes 250hp stock but the power delivery is pure joy combined with the noise in a proper lightweight sports car like that would be a one of a kind masterpiece.
You won’t be able to fit such a big engine. It’s a small compartment back there.
dreamer...
Alpine championne the World of rallyes Porsche zéro Ferrari zéro BMW zéro Mercedes zéro Alfa Romeo zéro
How exactly could Litchfield alter the layout?
Enjoyed this very much and as watching i though looks like a good sports car for around the 30k mark....did i hear 50k🤔
What a great sports car! If they sold them here in the States, I would totally recommend one…then go out and buy a Caymen.
I've got an A110 and a friend has a cayman... he gets left in the dust everytime. No comp
I've driven both - back to back and as an Ex Porsche owner - no contest... if it wasn't for the badges you could think the Alpine was a Porsche - the Porsche the Alpine. The Alpine build is SO much better - but No journo is going to slander Porsche bc their jobs depend on it!
Would have loved it even more as a Caterham. Its such a shame that didn't happen.
Huh.. aren't they like 2 different companies?
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks The Alpine A110 was developed in partnership with Catherham and was also going to be a Catherman model, but Catherham didn’t have the money to continue, which is a real shame. Alpine are now cooking up something with Lotus though 👍👌
@@karlhurn Ah man, what could have been. Well let's hope fortunes turn up this time round.
..why? Why would having a Caterham badge have made it better? Because it's Bri'ish?
Anyone notice random things always come in groups - I haven’t heard a reference to Goldilocks in years… until the past couple of days. 2 times I’ve heard it mentioned in the past couple of days. This video even brought it up TWICE.
And this kind of thing happens for me every few months or so with random allusions.
Always in groups, sometimes over the course of weeks, and then they disappear back to long term memory.
Definitely gettin matrix vibes.
i20N video next pls
Is that a Montblanc Timewalker on your wrist?
How much are the mods?
4:59 - Make it orange!! 💯💙🧡💙🧡💙
It is good to see Alex…
But where is Henry!? (Sorry~~~)
Alex, is that a Tag Autavia? If so, what reference? If not, wristcheck?
Watch is a Roue tps. I spent ages scouring the comments to find that lmfao
How's it different to the "S" version from Renault?
More torque plus adjustable dampers essentially. Same power though.
would love one....at half the price and more engaging sound track :) 300/300/ton and compact dimensions are perfect for UK B roads
