I can tell that regardless of what college you have decided to attend, you are going to go extremely far with your attitude, work ethic, and perseverance. I also applaud you for finding such success in schooling while dealing with ADHD. I was also diagnosed but when I was very young and I have to say that living life off meds is much better anyway. I’m a high school senior. I feel you man, I got rejected from every high end school that I applied to except for case western reserve, and I felt like I had the credentials to get in. Good luck man
well for the high end schools, 80% of the students who apply have 1590s on SATs and were valodictorians and such so you have alot of competition. you have to have good credentials and then do something to catch the eyes of the people reviewing your paper (tell them you are gay and the struggles with that and you improve your chances. thats what I did (: )

There is a lot that shines through in this video. I actually teared up somewhere in the last third thinking how I wanna be like you when I grow up. I say here and watched this and said to myself “this is really cringe” but I also was like “how would this get rejected?” This is actually a pretty impressive video to send if you want to get into a collage
unpopular opinion but the other ones I’ve seen are better. Yes this dude is very intelligent and impressive, but so are the kids that do get into brown. Sounds like you have an insane resume; no clue how you have time for all that but props. I think a flaw in this video is that it doesn’t really tell the admissions officers anything that they don’t already know. Something lots of admissions officers have said about open ended parts of the application is they want to come away from it with a feeling as though they had had a conversation with you. That part of your personality still feels like a bit of a mystery after watching this imo
Another thing is he only starts addressing why he wants to go to Brown in like the last 15 seconds, and it’s not very specific to brown (could be said about any college)
Another constructive criticism if you dont mind… I think it is a great video, however halfway through, I actually got pretty bored cause it is the same tone throughout, like over and over with just different words (lyrics), so it is too monotone.. another thing is, yes, you were telling so much of what you do, but to me it seems like a little braggy (like look at me and all the things I do and all my accomplishments). as entertaining as this was, i can see where it missed the beat on what brown is looking for. from my viewpoint, the purpose of a video application is to further highlight feelings and motivations that aren’t shown otherwise, instead of just using it as a resume and restating achievements you already capitalized off of in other sections. all the best

I’m wrapping up the college application process rn and the fact that Brown didn’t accept you has me kind of terrified but I’m wildly impressed nonetheless. Being a senior now i feel like I missed out my chances to engage in a wide variety of extracurriculars which genuinely excite me, but after seeing this I feel kind of inspired to make sure that I do so in college and beyond. I don’t know why your video had this effect (maybe it was your enthusiasm), since usually seeing the achievements of others my age causes me stress, but whatever it is i thank you nonetheless. Someone said to me, "Universities do that, they reject some students with great portfolio because they believe that u have the potential and enter a greater university than themselves." I did one of these video portfolios for my applications last year and it’s super interesting to see someone else’s take on a pretty open ended prompt. Your’s is all about the breadth of the stuff that you’ve accomplished while mine was all about one very specific thing I was proud of. Shame you didn’t get in, but don’t let this get you down. I can see why this got rejected, if you see the brown accepted videos you can see that they show what they’re are passionate about and this doesn’t really show how passionate he is about the things he does but just different activities he does like he’s just listing them
I tried Brown University too but rejected. I did dropout college this year to pursue work, earn money for future financial stability. Moreover, universities isn't everything bud you have many talents that you have to flourish. You can attend other universities!

Keep doing what you do Blade Kalikow. I was waitlisted at Brown (in 2014) and went somewhere else and in retrospect it was a blessing in disguise. All the best!
It's possible that you were rejected purely on the woeful rapping ability showcased, and that otherwise you would have gotten in. If I worked in admissions, I wouldn't be able to look over the lackluster flow and repugnant cadence.
I think I can provide some insight into the rejection. Universities have a massive amount of applicants, all of whom have similar credentials & tout extracurriculars & volunteer work. Ivy League universities are thus looking more into the character of the student, the creativity, the capacity for novel work, for an uninhibited & focused passion. This may sound extreme / unrealistic / even romanticized, but the applicants who are accepted have strong stories & particular interests. He states his interests but there is no why. The WHY is essential. We all can assume he wants to study that which relates to ecology as a moral act to “save the world” during this era of the climate crisis & likely the end of our existence at some point, but he merely states what he wants to study but doesn’t delve into this why. Why are such subjects important? What can you do with them? What is the point? Where is the complexity. He’s clearly intelligent & caring, but this is just a standard Ivy League resume in spoken form. It lacks the creativity they seek. It’s sweet & well done in its own manner. By no means does it come off as a “parody” as some are saying; it’s simply that he’s a bit awkward in his delivery. I think more confidence, creativity, & intention behind his desired field of study would have made this better. I’m not sure rap is the way to go either… unless you truly have a way with words & can deliver something more articulate. The language herein is quite simplistic & the ability to articulate is everything at an Ivy. I have plenty of experience. I don’t know everything of course. I could be wrong. Who knows. But from my experience these are my remarks.

I think one of the reasons why you did not get accepted was probably because your video was so scattered and didn’t have a clear goal to achieve you just talked about your life but now how it brought meaning to brown university.

I did one of these video portfolios for my applications last year and it’s super interesting to see someone else’s take on a pretty open ended prompt. Your’s is all about the breadth of the stuff that you’ve accomplished while mine was all about one very specific thing I was proud of. Shame you didn’t get in, but don’t let this get you down. I can see why this got rejected, if you see the brown accepted videos you can see that they show what they’re are passionate about and this doesn’t really show how passionate he is about the things he does but just different activities he does like he’s just listing them

I tried Brown University too but rejected. I did dropout college this year to pursue work, earn money for future financial stability. Moreover, universities isn't everything bud you have many talents that you have to flourish. You can attend other universities!

It's possible that you were rejected purely on the woeful rapping ability showcased, and that otherwise you would have gotten in. If I worked in admissions, I wouldn't be able to look over the lackluster flow and repugnant cadence.
I'm actually disappointed you didn't get into Brown but here's to making the world a better place.

I think I can provide some insight into the rejection. Universities have a massive amount of applicants, all of whom have similar credentials & tout extracurriculars & volunteer work. Ivy League universities are thus looking more into the character of the student, the creativity, the capacity for novel work, for an uninhibited & focused passion. This may sound extreme / unrealistic / even romanticized, but the applicants who are accepted have strong stories & particular interests. He states his interests but there is no why. The WHY is essential. We all can assume he wants to study that which relates to ecology as a moral act to “save the world” during this era of the climate crisis & likely the end of our existence at some point, but he merely states what he wants to study but doesn’t delve into this why. Why are such subjects important? What can you do with them? What is the point? Where is the complexity. He’s clearly intelligent & caring, but this is just a standard Ivy League resume in spoken form. It lacks the creativity they seek. It’s sweet & well done in its own manner. By no means does it come off as a “parody” as some are saying; it’s simply that he’s a bit awkward in his delivery. I think more confidence, creativity, & intention behind his desired field of study would have made this better. I’m not sure rap is the way to go either… unless you truly have a way with words & can deliver something more articulate. The language herein is quite simplistic & the ability to articulate is everything at an Ivy. I have plenty of experience. I don’t know everything of course. I could be wrong. Who knows. But from my experience these are my remarks.

I think one of the reasons why you did not get accepted was probably because your video was so scattered and didn’t have a clear goal to achieve you just talked about your life but now how it brought meaning to brown university.

I saw a lot of brown portfolio videos on youtube that did not give a clear indication as to what the students wanted to achieve or bring to Brown. Yet they were still accepted.
