Tangi a te ruru,
kei te hokihoki mai e.
E whaka-whero-whero
i te putahitanga.
Nāku nei ra koe
i tuku kia haere.
Tēra puritia iho
nui rawa te aroha e.
Verse, sung twice
Te Hokinga Mai,
tēna koutou
Tangi ana te ngākau
i te aroha
Tū tonu ra te mana
te ihi o nga tupuna
kua wehea atu rā
Mauria mai te mauri tangata
hei oranga mo te mōrehu
tangi mōkai nei
E rapu ana i te ara tika
mo tātou katoa.
Te Hokinga Mai,
Te Hokinga Mai
Tū tangata tonu!
This reminds me of our history, our scholars, our great leaders, our lives our whakapapa our islands, who we the Maori are and where we going to. We are moving forward, into the future.
Tēnā koe Whaea, ngā mihi aroha

Take me back to the 80's n 90's baby where I belong!!!
If I was A Kiwi.....I'd have this as the NZ anthem.
A warm greeting Michael, thank you for your kind words.
Name of waiata (song) is
"Te Hokinga Mai" composed by Te Tāite Cooper & Father Ma Mariu 1986. Here is the English transliteration :
The cry of the morepork keeps coming back to me
It is hooting out there where the paths meet
I was the one who allowed you to go
It was curbed, my deep love for you
But now the formal return home, Greetings to you How my heart weeps for joy
Still standing tall is the prestige and the enchantment of the ancestors who have passed on
Bring back the true spirit of the people to help heal the survivor crying like a slave (to mean, with loneliness) And searching for the true path for us all.
Hope this helps - the Māori language is very poetic, Enjoy
Oops... Correction : Father Max Mariu

Anthonie Hendrie - Its pretty Deep - It was writen for the Return of our Ancestors Heads an various other "Taonga" returned to Us NZ from oversea museums and private collections...It talks of those that weep to find Strength Courage Love from our Ancestors to not stumble & walk in the dark....Beautiful Words thats probably why if you always cry and feel over whelmed and full of Love and emotion with song.
@bali exo trip...Mrs Reign explains it beautifully.
The English transliteration is written under Michael Crawford comment (at top)
