  • Buying tires for our Kei Trucks / Vans is a balancing act of choices and because nobody at the local tire shop carries them, we turn to online sales. This video is all about understanding tire choices and why UPS sucks to deal with when it comes to getting things imported to the US. 🚚💨
    In our quest to purchase tires we found ourselves at the mercy of UPS's notoriously infuriating phone bot. Have you been there? We've cracked the code. Join us as we share insider tips on hacking the UPS phone system and how to reach a real human agent. It will not stop your frustration when they lose your stuff. This hack will at least allow you to tell a real human they suck when they do and not have your voice fall on deaf robot ears.
    Because UPS botch our order we turned to a company in the US. Had a very pleasant experience ordering a set of 4 tires from G&R Imports www.grimports.... we paid a little more but well worth it. We researched, contemplated, explored our options on tires and the real take away here is don’t deal with UPS if you can help it, your Kei truck and your sanity will thank you. 🛣️✨

    uk you just go tyre shop if they not got they order for you and come back when they say they will arrive. i planning or very tempted getting kei van, had one tabbed for months i really like, just waiting on payment, its a kei van or a modern i20, one win out the kei van pretty high chance. only thing id have to do is find a way to change it from km/h to mph as we have lots cameras and average speed cameras what monitor your speed over set distance so it handy to know the mph, maybe digital one ive seen tho on other cars

      In the US it is the same. You go to the tire shop and buy the tires and they will put them on. The problem is that the tires are so small 21 inches on a 12 in wheels. Nobody carries them and they can't even order them because they are all from Japan. You also cannot have a Kei Vehicle here in the US unless it is 25 years old because of our import rule about 25 year old vehicles. We looked a lot at the km/h to mph displays but you can down load an app on your phone that lets you know how fast your going based on GPS. Used that a while and figured out our speedo was wrong and got used to registering the km/h in my head to mph. Take your km/h speed and divide by 2, then drop the last number and add that in.... 40 km/h - 40/2 = 20. 40 move the decimal over one = 4. now add the two number together. 40 km/h is pretty close to 24 mph. 90 km/h = 45 + 9 = about 54. Sorry so long. Cheers and hope you do get a van they are amazing.

      @@OniCave thank you, the km/h the speedo pretty basic so big gaps between numbers, ive got a good idea a km/h approx and that 100km/h 62mph, 80km/h 50 mph and 50km/h is around 30mph but we have a lot 20 zones and 10% error you can get away with but they can if a jobs worth do you for just 1mph but unlikely. i was more thinking like the ones a lot street racers use and stick it on dash just above speedo i guess plugged in to car computer. what i meant regarding the tyres are if it a stage size and not got they can find the tyres and order them in, allow them to do the importing if need be but if i choose to go for a 4 seat kei van i trn it to day camper a micro rv, ive seen 6ft person lye down in one so plenty room for me, the end bed becomes a center island what slots between bed and storage and worktop so it can be used as 4 seat van but them camping i can have a full length bed when seat folds flat and center island goes on top folded seat. have thought about it alot. as bad health next car/van the car must have cruise control to help on longer drives or van i have bed to lye down so stop anywhere to recoup so cruise control not a issue as place to rest. for a while ive wanted one but i did look at bedford rascal but as they spent whole life in uk rust is a huge issue but one from japan it can be 24 years old and almost rust free the one i like 40k miles and less rust than my 2011 car. just waiting on payment if it what i expect or close i prob will get van, unlikely it lose value as they are 100% legal in uk as we did have vans based on them in the 80's . the one i like one tyre slightly cracking but tread legal but with the sale i will ask for a new full set tyres even tho they are legal but a bit old, and they do offer a free undercoat to protect it but i might pass on that and do a rust treatment to cure all rust even if only a little then pay to protect it. been thing about it for a while and pinned a tab on the one got my interest, not as cheap as you can get them for, £6500 40k miles 24 years old and almost rust free it great condition, another one only 13k miles and over £8k and slightly newer but out my price range. sneaky feeling i wont lose money on it if i had to sell in decade esp if i converted it to camper . curtains an easy option magnets very easy way. loads ideas and think ive already sold the idea to me so i just home money comes soon before it goes, if so i have to wait around 5-6 months for them to find and import

      Sweet. Oni is carbureted and does not have a computer to tap into. But we are planning on making it into a little camping vehicle. Working on a Suspension video right now. Hope to have it done by tomorrow. Nothing like waiting till the last moment to get everything done.

    UPS is fun, right now I'm dealing with them losing a package, they delivered it to the dock where someone signed for it. The problem? It was coming to my house.
    I'll recommend Better Trucks if'n they're an option in your area, though admittedly they likely won't handle something as big as tires.

      I agree. with out new house our UPS driver here is amazing, but our USPS is the epitome of apathetic, he just throws our packages. I think they all suck on some level. Sorry about your lost package hopefully my phone technique is helping with talking with a live person.

      @@OniCave Thanks, but I did get the package... Sorta, It was ordered from AliExpress, and I'd told a friend yesterday about it since I introduced him to AliExpress. I sent this to him and forwarded it to my household (we have a Telegram group for sharing things):
      So, remember my missing AliExpress order? Well, it just arrived, and things have gotten weird... Super weird. It arrived from Amazon addressed to Gavin Wilkinson. If you don't know, Gavin is my editor griffon OC, and he does have a dedicated email account, though I don't remember if'n I gave him a last name or not. Thing is, it's not the account my AliExpress or Amazon accounts are using, nor is the name used on either of those. Also the tracking number I was given was a UPS one that said they delivered to the dock and had the name of some person I've never heard of as the signatory.

      Around town about 35. But when we go anywhere, we have the pedal smashed all the way down and get about 25 or less.

      I didn't realize that. The only thing we ordered were tires and yes we feel like they went above and beyond.

    "K" or "kay" = Kei
    I could be on the spectrum, but this distracted my mind from the content.

    • @OniCave
      @OniCave  2 месяца назад

      We have heard it pronounced both ways. Guess the Japanese say, "Kay". But the reality is we say Japanese words different than the way they pronounce words all the time...mount Fuji is said Hu-ji...so we all need to become fluent in Japanese or not worry too much about it.
