I came for a Jen update and stayed for your cat in the Lisa Eldridge box. It’s my new personality. I loved hearing about your thesis and all the research involved, so fascinating! And congrats!
Jennifer, it is delightful to hear from you! I am new here, and arrived just in time for you to be preoccupied with your studies. The landscape in your thesis sounds fascinating - if you were to ever share it, we’d all relish it!
as a book person who knows nothing about Czechia or Czech literature, it was lovely to hear about your thesis. and yes, that was a huge effing amount of work and you should be proud!!
It’s so good to see you! Congratulations on your Masters! In the time that you’ve been gone I finished my PhD so go us! Your thesis sounds so interesting as someone also interested in what prizes do and who they’re for. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
Wow, congratulations on graduating! Feels like a few weeks ago that you mentioned you are about to do your MA 😄 As a Czech person, I think your thesis topic sounds really interesting, especially in the context of the secondary literature that you used and the extra effort you did, coming to Prague and talking to all those people, that sounds like enough work for a phd thesis, I am honestly amazed and inspired. Good for you that it's done now, I'm pretty jealous you can read whatever you want since I have been reading for uni for the past five years or so 😄 It made my day that you uploaded today ❤️ Loved to hear all your thoughts about Czech literary context 😄 Srdečně gratuluji k titulu 😇
Congratulations-finishing a dissertation takes enormous willpower and courage even though we don’t talk about them that way. Nice to see James English’s work mentioned-a little nudge for me to finish reading it. I wish you rest in whatever form that takes for you before the leap into a new job.
13:05 Congratulations on receiving your Master's Degree! 🎉🎉🎉🎉Enjoy your new found free time! Reading at the beach, it doesn't get any better!!!! I would love to read your thesis. It sounds like something I could get into. When I was in college in the 1970's-early 1980's, I took a lot of Comparative Literature classes and Milan Kundera was widely read.
Thank heavens you are back, I'm sorely needing a few excellent book recommendations. Please stay with us hungry readers; whenever you go next, who are seeking inspirational contemporary fiction out of Central Eastern Europe and maybe even Russia.
It is a weird thing to be subscribed to two different people, and then realize they know each other personally and are book friends. I know there's at least one other BookTuber in my city (and as I'm writing this I don't actually know if you and Matthew are in the same location), but we've never met.
Annnd you effing did it ahhhhh congratulations. And you made so much more work for yourself than was strictly necessary in the process, I cannot say I am even a little bit surprised. And despite that, you still managed, worked like hell, and you have a Master's, yay! I found hearing about your thesis fascinating and educational, what a niche bit of history! I just recently got my Bachelor's in Literature and it's no master's degree but I still feel so happy. So yes, I am also in a transitional phase, and I am also job hunting, though I am not facing a grey cloud of nothingness. I mean in a way I am, in the sense that I don't know what the future holds either. But the cloud doesn't feel so grey because I'm currently living with my parents, so there's no need to switch cities, and life is overall very stable. So even though I sympathize I also am not in your position at all. But, to answer your question, in fact, I *am* reading things I'm enjoying, I just finished Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon by the recently deceased philosopher Daniel Dennett, some time ago I also finished Without You There is No Us: Undercover Among the Sons of North Korea's Elite, another non-fiction book, I'm on a non-fiction kick recently. And I have several other books going. It sounds like you've read some good books since you graduated, The Girls sounds right up your alley, I stay away from tales of "brutal murder" but it sounds like it was excellent. It's so, so good to hear from you again, welcome back!
Congratulations on completing your masters! I really enjoyed hearing about your thesis. You always have interesting videos, where I feel like I learned something and it was worth my time. Thanks.
congratulations jennifer !! recently been rewatching your videos as i'm finishing up my master's program :) wishing you all the best and looking forward to your future videos
Congratulations 🥳 It’s soooooo lovely to see your face on my feed and to then catch up with you. I have The Girls on my shelves, sounds like I need to read it. Heres to the future of the channel and to all your adventures ahead.
Congratulations! I feel like your graduate studies went by so fast! I know it didn't feel like it, my thesis felt like a brick slowing me down for soooo long. And yet I'm still thinking about getting a second masters.... P.S. I hope you love Possession, it's one of my favorite books
Congratulations on your thesis! I have to admit your old videos have been a comfort watch for me (especially your Robin Hobb videos) over the past couple of years and I'm glad you're back!
Congratulations Jen! It's great to see a video from you again. I've been reading The Museum of Abandoned Secrets by Oksana Zaubuzhko, but it's a challenge, because stream of consciousness is a writing style that I struggle with reading. I lost sometimes while reading.
Oh my goodness! The shriek of joy when I saw this video in my feed. I have missed your videos soooooo much. So many congratulations on graduating! I can't even fathom the amount of work you've completed and how much you've accomplished. I totally relate to the feeling of freedom after graduating from a Masters and being able to read whatever you want, but it was also an incredibly transitional and stressful time period for a while. I had to work on intentionally not achieving things so that my brain could get out of the grind mindset of school. But like everything, it will pass and there is so much to hope for and look forward to. I'm so excited for you! And so happy to see you back! 🎉🎉🎉
Jennifer! So great to see you! Congratulations on completing your thesis! Well done! Your thesis sounds so interesting! I hope you are finding time to rest and read now. All the best in your next career! 👏📚🌻
Yay! Such a happy surprise to see you pop up on my feed. Congrats on finishing your degree! Really enjoyed hearing about your thesis. Found it fascinating and your topic very appropriate for you. Hope you're able to rest and relax (much deserved) before dealing with the gray cloud of nothingness. (Will definitely be checking out some of the books you mentioned too.)
Currently reading The Idiot by Elif Batuman. Feel like you talked about this book years ago and praised it so had always wanted to get around to it since then... Loving it so far and I'm slathering over Ivan. Congrats on completing your Master's. Well done on doing all that research, sounds like it was very rewarding. I bought The Price of Mirth a few months ago but am not sure when I'll get around to it as have lots of others I want to get to first. Hope the job hunting goes well :D
Congrats, Jennifer. I, too, have Hannah’s poetry collection and it made me happy to see it on your poetry stack. You described your thesis wonderfully. Prague and Czech interview. Whew. Girl. The work. Whew.
Congratulations on your thesis and graduation! It was cool to hear about it. The part about culture being blown open in Eastern Europe in the 90s is such an interesting moment. I’ve heard Maria Stepanova discuss that too. I also got The Girls on indie bookshop day! At a cute new bookshop in Seattle called Charlie’s. I might read it next.
Hi Jennifer! I've got a bit of a strange book series recommendation for you. It would combine your love of fantasy books with your love of Slavic literature. "The Witcher" series by Andrzej Sapkowski has enchanted me in English, but you might even be able to read it in Polish. One of the protagonists even shares your name (Yennefer of Vengerburg.) Now that you have time for purely leisure reading, this series might be a good palate cleanser.
Congrats 👏🥳 I found your thesis super interesting! I can't wait to also finish my master's but it's still a ways away 🥲 In the meantime I hope you read enough for the both of us haha
Wow, congratulations on graduating! I'm so happy you uploaded again! You're one of my fav creators on RUclips 🎉😊

Yes, Jen!!
You are very inspiring thinker. Missed you!
I recognized you from--wow--two years ago and am so happy to see that you're back. Your book talk was always the best on youtube.
Finish line crossed! Congratulations, Jennifer! 🥳 Wishing you endless hours of reading for pure enjoyment!
Never clicked so fast in my life! Welcome back and congratulations! :)

I tried to find authors from Czechoslavakia a few years back and was surprised it wasn’t a quick search.
What a delightful surprise to see you back in my feed. Congratulations on your Master degree and your very interesting thesis.
Both your thesis and process sound completely fascinating!
Happy to hear your book thoughts again :)
Hello!! 🎉🎉 Lovely to see you!

Congrats, Jennifer. I, too, have Hannah’s poetry collection and it made me happy to see it on your poetry stack. You described your thesis wonderfully. Prague and Czech interview. Whew. Girl. The work. Whew.
As I am from Poland, I would love to know if your master's thesis included mentions of Polish writers ;)
