Episode 99
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is final game in the trilogy for the NES, and it's an absolute masterpiece! This game ditches the free exploration of Simon's Quest, and returns to the action focus of the original.
Castlevania 3 takes everything that made the original Castlevania awesome and adds even more - New playable characters, branching paths, and more bosses than ever before!
So how did this game get made, and what happened to the North American version that made it so difficult? In today's episode we'll find out then we'll dive deep into the gameplay where we'll learn:
* The best way to complete EVERY Stage, regardless of which character you choose!
* How to recruit all three characters!
* TONS of secret codes to get more lives, earlier characters, and more!
* Wall Meat - Where to find all of it!
* The SECRET GLITCH that can WARP you all the way TO THE FINAL STAGE!
* DETAILED MAPS for every level!
* Where do all these branching paths go? We'll look at every route!
* Hidden 1-UPs, and other secrets - We'll find them all!
* MULTIPLE strategies for EVERY BOSS - Even COUNT DRACULA himself... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

Shout out to Aunt Lynne who worked at Meijer for 25 years and bought this for me in 1990 for Christmas with her extreme discount. It was always one of the favorites of my small NES collection growing up. Now that I’m older I can see what an amazing achievement this game is - outstanding graphics and possibly the best OST of any NES release, not to mention the replay value with branching paths and party members. Unashamed to admit I’ve never finished it to this day, but that changes now with UCBVG’s episode. Hell yes!
That’s awesome. My oldest nephew is 16. Buying him Zelda tomorrow and my youngest nephew is 2. I can’t wait til the 2 year old gets into games. Uncle T is going to buy him every game he wants
Did you beat the game yet
Shout out to Aunt Lynne!
I was my brothers hero when I beat this game as a kid! This game was and still is absolutely ruthless but still one of my favorite all time games especially with its rocking soundtrack! Each Hero brought dynamic gameplay to the table along with their specialized levels, they were all so much fun to play!
I've said it before and I'll say it again "This channel is like Saturday morning cartoons for gamers". Never fails to impress you with the game play the secrets and strategies to get you through, the history of how the game came into existence as well as who some of the people that made it possible, and the informational extras on the side while playing adds to the viewing experience. Thank you for this fantastic channel.
Poor Grant Danasty. First his entire family was killed, then he was turned into a demon and placed as a boss in a skippable stage, then he got turned into a zombie-mummy in Castlevania Judgement and then finally he got next to completely forgotten or/and ignored in the Netflix series. This underappreciated Castlevania hero truly deserves a better fate!
why did you write that?
@@mrbuttercup37 Because it needed to be said.
@@mrbuttercup37 what a horrible night to have a curse?
I boycotted the Netflix show because of that.
It was better for Grant to not be part of that mess.
Oh Castlevania III, one of the best games on the NES and my personal favorite. It's also one of the best in the whole series. The feeling of dealing the last blow to Dracula after a long and hard battle is just epic. The weird ways in which they made some of the bosses laughable in the original Famicom version was also interesting though it's soundtrack is still amazing and helped getting you in the right mood of fighting Dracula's dark army, especially using Grant.
Like the original game 3 was created to move one stage to the next and be an interactive movie, when they created the North American version they messed up the flow of the original release by making some of the bosses non existent (Dracula form 1, giant bat) and others up to chance as to if you get through.
This was a massive episode! the way you took the time to show everything within the game left me speechless.
I'd like to add that with this game you can see an evolution of the Castlevania formula:
Castlevania 1 - linear
Castlevania 2 - open world/exploration
Castlevania 3 - multiple paths
And if you merge all 3 you will have Castlevania Symphony of the night.
I really enjoyed this episode, your skills are getting as big as that pup of you. 🤣
Once again, awesome video! I am one of the few weirdos whose favorite old school Castlevania is Simon's Quest but still enjoying this video.
That's my favorite one on the nes too. It's the most fun to replay, and not ridiculously hard.
In 2007 I was surprised to find everyone was nodding their head along with one angry nard about Sime-Dog's Quest being a bad game. I also picked it then and now as my favorite. It's easily the creepiest one. If you want an unNerving vibe, C2 is your game. Omg a flame whip isn't original. Dracula and having gravity aren't original either. Such minor complaints against such a great game.
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Again, I found my SNES and it's Advantage controller all functional. Now I have both the NES and SNES with Advantage controllers functional again. Glad I kept all those games. Just what an old man needs now.
I can finally beat the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. Keep up the great work, and hope you do the rest of the collection!
One of the truly great NES games, used to get together with several buddies to play this as a kid. Still hang out of some of them and this game comes up in conversations to this day.
Great advice for life -- if you find yourself falling, "you may be able to save yourself by turning yourself into a bat so keep that in mind"
I use that advice in real life.
Alacard is actually Adtian Tepes, half human half vampire being (a Dhampir). Technically a living being who drinks blood if he wishes and could become a full vampire when dead.
I just shared some of your old videos in two FB gaming forums. The TMNT series. I'm not a youtuber, and I only shared one video I made in one forum and I got 60K views and 133 subscribers from that one video. You are far more worthy than I to get more attention for all the work you put into these videos, so I shared them around hoping it will bring more traffic to your sight. You are really providing a public service. We really do value the work you do! Thank you!
That's cool
@@jc.1191 Now the number is up to 191 subscribers and almost 80K views. And I haven't posted any new content yet. I'm on the fence if I want to spend the cash to get those figures here to make more videos. At least in my case I don't expect to make a living off of RUclips. I would like to go through the figures in more detail and try to match up their accessories. That would be entertaining for myself and others. But also not excited about the figures being in Taiwan because I don't think the high heat and humidity are good for them long term. So if I were to ship them here I'd have to make some sort of game plan of what happens next.
I think this is the best 8-bit game ever made. I honestly know only a few games that rival it, and I've played a ton.
Easily the best of the "retro styled" Castlevanias. Branching paths, multiple characters, replayability. It's one of my all time favorites.
This channel needs to have a million subscribers it truly deserves it
What a classic! Easily the best Castlevania on NES. I love the choices you have to make between multiple paths and the different characters you can choose to have join Trevor, the decision of which even affect the ending. It's an 8-bit masterpiece. Happy Halloween, U Can Beat Video Games!
Castlevania 2 had a creepier feel and was underrated after everyone listened to some angry nurd get everything wrong.
About time this was done
One of the best castlevania games ever. It was hard but fair for the most part
And while Trevor/Sypha is canon, he actually recruited everyone.
Great run
This is a special one for me. This is my favorite Castlevania and I've only ever beaten it with Sypha because her homing balls absolutely tears apart bosses. But it took me a very long time because this game is by far the toughest Castlevania for NES. Now that I know that Urata code I can just start with Sypha....that's freaking awesome. Thanks again for a masterful playthrough.
Finally!! This is the one console Castlevania game I have yet to beat. Thank you!
Love this game so much. One of the few nes games I had to get a physical copy of and play through the same day. This, castlevania 1, ninja gaiden, Mario 3, and contra are the best nes games ever made
FINALLY!!!!!!!!! Finally you're doing Castlevania 3
One of the absolute best NES games and one of the best Castlevania games ever! Great choice for the last episode before Halloween.
1hr 24 min in "The last wall meat is referred to as "The Last Supper" because it's the last wall meat in the game. 🤣 I wonder who came up with that one. Man your killing it with comedy as well. Love this little piece of gaming history.
You won my like early with the "Load bearing boss" bit. Amazing job as always.
That was pretty funny
Medusa with Grant? Axes from the ceiling.
Also, I cannot unhear it when you say it... Chrevor jumps the penjulum to chry his shtrategy against Jracula.
Great video, I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Castlevania 3 is my favorite out of the series, probably one of my all-time favorite NES games. I really enjoy watching your playthroughs, I ended this game back in the days but I didn't get a chance to end it with Cypher so I'm glad you showed me that ending, I'm looking forward to the next game you play
I’m glad he started the video with the Japanese soundtrack. Thanks for that treat
"We're not out of the woods yet" I see what you did there
That needs to be on a t-shirt, "Everyone's Favorite - spiders that drop down and shoot smaller spiders!"
I don't know why but the process for the final stage warp always cracks me up.
It's like Chaotic Realm levels of insanity to discover and perform.
Nice gameplay as always. Keep it up and I hope you reach 100k subs soon!
He's putting out BANGER after BANGER
HOW DOES HE DOOOO IIIIIT
UCBVG You're awesome, you've absolutely nailed this format.
Been watching your vids like Mario 2, Simon's quest, Metroid, etc... and I noticed your puppets now has a new friend!
I really appreciate how naturally "wall meat" rolls off your tongue like it's an everyday-standard-totally normal object.
Absolutely love the Castlevania series.. just in time for halloween
Man I can't get enough of this channel! Its like playing a game with a prima guide.
I remember being really confused as to who or what Sypha was supposed to be. I found that ambiguity to be pretty fun. I feel like there was a lot of conflicting information from various sources back in the day.
Yes! I was hoping for this! This is the only one of the 3 Castlevania games I haven’t finished.
Wow! I didn't dare think you'd go for this entry for your 3rdHalloween-themed video this yar. Glad I was wrong!
You’re my new favorite. I’m obsessed. This unlocks memories I forgot I had
I am to busy to watch this now right and will watch it later tonight, but I’ve been waiting for you to do this one for a long time. I’m only posting this right now so I can say “Thank you” before the comment count gets to high and hopefully the interaction gets this video more views due to the algorithm.
This and the first Castlevania took up many many hours of my time as a kid. I spent so much time trying to beat the first one, and after weeks and weeks, I finally defeated Dracula at the end of the first one only to learn that he turns into a big bat/gargoyle thing. I don't think I ever tried beating it again. Castlevania 3 didn't take up quite as much of my time, and I don't think i ever beat it, but i do remember playing it quite a bit.
I really really really like this channel a lot. Great work!
I love the clips of the NES Game Atlas, I have such fond memories of this game and the Atlas.
Man oh man I was wondering when you would do this one. Got it on Halloween back in 1990. Played the hell out of it and beat it with everyone but Alucard. I just couldn't do it. The constantly spawning mummies got me every time. On a side note, I'm also sitting here looking at bowling balls that look like the red stage clearing orbs. That's right!!! It could be my Castlevania ball😎
Super Castlevania is in my top 10 games of all time but I always wondered why they didn’t continue with the platform 3 had. I knows it’s retelling of 1 but still. That map screen during levels sure showed a lot of paths to take .
I see a notification there's a new video on this channel - I'm instantly interested in this!
Grant was always my favorite character. I was really excited to see him in SotN.
Didn't know he was in there!
Hey, your second assistant is growing from a little pupper into a big doggo, so now you will have twice the war club tails, belly rubs, and belly scratches to give.
Getting this for Christmas in 1990 was a highlight that year.
59:25 The monster was brought to life by lightning, and his life was ended by lightning. How fitting.
That glitch trick to the last level was hands down the wildest trick I've ever seen in a game. I don't know how anyone ever figured that out and can only imagine how long they spent messing around to finally get it lol.
This is the definitive #1 nes game in my eyes. It has everything
Oh great choice Castlevania III is the unmistakable king of the Castlevania series, easily the best in the series up until SotN maybe but for proper Belmont with a whip action no other game comes close!
Been waiting for this one, it was the first linear castlevania game I was actually able to beat as a kid. I got it for xmas in '90, and played it until I beat it with all possible character combinations, as I wanted to see all the endings.
My Christmas present too. Couldn't wait for it after seeing it in Nintendo power.
"I terrify them, Sypha disorients them, Alucard goes over the top and we support him."
Good lord that trick to reach the final area was ridiculous!!!!!! If I didn't have a guide I would never be able to get it to work.
How long do u practice each game and how do u get so damn good? This is one of the top RUclips channels of all time. I've beaten many games because of these videos
I respect your description reading like an early 90s magazine advertisement.
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Castlevania remains as a favorite for me.
You keep coming out with the best content! This was my favorite childhood nes game!
Probably the only channel I use the notification bell on. Awesome video
Love Castlevania 3. It's one of my most played classic cv games. Love the branching paths and different characters to give plenty of replay ability.
i love your openings, its so great to hear some backround info about the games
The stage warp that you demonstrated must be the most laborious glitch I've ever seen in a game. It's probably easier just to progress through this hard ass game! lol
And you later stated as much. 😀
27:25 : Who the HELL discovered that, and HOW?? OMG! LOL!
Note : I think that glitch is more complicated than actually making it to the final level in normal fashion! LOL
Edit: 38:05 : My bad, he pointed that out too haha
This is the one I was hoping for!
Awesome. I love Castlevania.
Been watching this channel for over a year now and have been asking about this game since day one.. thanks for getting around to it
I wish Konami would remake the NES trilogy in chronological order and give in addition to the 4 known endings a 5th new one showing us all the companions together in a new ending animation.
This is one of the most professional and entertaining RUclips shows. Bravo, as always!
Oh man, YAY! *LOVED* Castlevania 3 but never beat it. So excited to watch this!
Thanks for the thorough walkthrough of the whole game.
There's only one thing I found not really correct is that, you can get II and III after 10 kills of the sub-weapon, but you need to hit the next candle with the sub-weapon in order to get it. Also, the 10 kills can be candle hits. Therefore, it's easy to grind up to III with a screen transition with a candle nearby.
Thanks for this guide. Just beat the game for the first time.
I was hoping for this as the third "Halloween" type game! Awesome!
That glitch shortcut seems harder than just playing through the game the intended way.
Great stuff, and if I may be so bold, a complete guide on the second quest would be incredible.
"Dracula is a load bearing boss" My god... It all makes so sense now...
Always worth the wait! Thank you UCBVG!
I always loved the CV nes series bc the person who introduced me to video games liked it. They were always hard as balls to me. I loved this was 1 of 2 nes games with a Grant character. I always wished all the characters had stayed as team. Great video, and I think I only vaguely remembered this was the first game explained to me that there were regional changes
When you use sub weapons on candles you can get the double and triple shots very fast. Just like in the original castlevania game.
Wow ive played this game a ton and never knew about the dagger - lightning rod attack on the cyclops. Thats so cool
The second Castlevania should have been called "Dracula's Curse", while this should have been called "Trevor's Quest"
"In this area we can't reach those candles as Alucard, we'd need the axe with Trevor, or Sypha's lightning"
*_CHANGE INTO BAT WITH ALUCARD, QUICKLY FLY UP, QUICKLY CHANGE BACK, SPREAD ATTACK THE CANDLES!!!_* _"CaN't ReAcH tHe CaNdLeS uSiNg AlUcArD"_ Uwaah-haaa!!!
Lol "Dracula was a load-bearing boss." Best line.
Man I wish I had this guide a few months back. This is by far my favorite Castlevania!
OMG i wasn't prepared for this !!!
Thanks for the video UCBVG. So much nostalgia with this game. Great to see and hear your strats for completing this game. The warp is a bit much for me, but interesting to watch. Keep up the great videos!!!
I haven't played every retrovania but Castlevania III is the hardest I've played and beaten by a long shot. It makes plenty of the other ones look easy in comparison.
Whenever I decline a character's help, I just think "AWK-WARDDD..." lol
Holy Water (aka "firebomb") is the best castlevania sub-weapon EVER!
stood in line for this game on release.
Was stuck on clock tower but just did it,really helpful thank you 😊
The game and this video are both masterpieces!!
Even following this guide I'm not optimistic I can beat this game, but this will really help. Love your vids!!!
The writing is genius....there's a way to scroll thru and play each song on th soundtrack....I used to just listen
Oooooooooooh riiiiiiiight!! Castlevania 3!! One of my favs!
How did I miss this episode?!!!! It's incredible!!
I love this game it is so fun to play on the old Nintendo
Watching this on Halloween is perfect....
Just in time me for Halloween. Your knowledge of this game is scary. 🧛♂️
