  • Alfa Romeo GTV -85 with the same engine as a GTV6
    2,5liter V6 12 valve
    Megasquirt II. Eaton M62 Supercharger with a clutch activated by a button inside the car. Running 0.25bar/3.6PSI boost. The Alfa gets better fuel mileage on the road because I can drive without the supercharger spinning all the time. I now have better fuel mileage than when the car was unmodified.
    Modified instrument gauges. Innovate LC-1 connected to the MSII for closed loop fuel delivery. The LC-1 is also connected to the custom made AFR gauge around the boost gauge. Many carbon parts have made the car lighter. Toyo R888 tires.
    In the performance tests at the end of the video the second blink on the G-tech indicates 100km/h. With the gear ratio I use the Alfa does 100km/h in second gear on the rev limiter.

    Wow, what a nice set up. I've got to think a supercharger Interferes less with the wonderful Busso exhaust note than would a turbocharger.
    That is plenty fast. It's not so ridiculously fast that you can't tap its potential without getting thrown in jail.
    I daily-drove a stock, mechanically excellent, low mileage, (38,000 when I bought it) black/black '85 for five years from 2000 to 2004. No major problems. Sold it to my mechanic when I moved to a place without a mechanic. I did much of the repair work myself, but didn't have the facility or patience to replace front donuts, etc.

    Thank You!
    I use a modified electromagnetic clutch from a AC compressor to activate the supercharger. The M62 is almost too small for my engine so it is definitely better to go with a M90 for a 3.0 litre.

    @155stw Yes there are two throttles. The one closer to the air filter is always wide open when the supercharger isn’t activated. When to supercharger is activated this throttle starts moving opposite to the second throttle. It closes when the original one opens. This lets me easily control power and boost seamless with the gas pedal without any lag, really good for slippery conditions. When boost isn’t needed the air from the supercharger goes out true the N/A air filter.

      reversed throttle body - thats brillant! Do you sell your carbon supercharger intake adapter? Actually thinking about doing the carbon part myself. Did you use a 3d printer for creating the mold? cheers

    Hey there. You should be an inspiration to anyone wanting to supercharge their V6 Alfa. Ver, very nice job. Thanx to you, and an almost new eaton M62 exactly like yours crossing paths with me, I have just finished supercharging my '84 2.5 GTV6. She is also rinning at about.25 bar, on the standard L-jetronic. At the moment not through an intercooler. I mounted my charger like the one in Greg Gordons kit, with a simple 2 inch pipe around the engine to the intake, with a blow-off valve.

    @MaffiaAlfista I read your comment as positive :) I am not planning to lower the compression ratio now. We haven’t got E85 in Finland. I use regular pump fuel, 98 octane or V-power.

    @hiperformancestore Fuel consumption is very important to me and that is why I made this supercharger setup.
    Thank you for all the positive feedback and for all the information about superchargers and water injection on your website. Today I measured the supercharger RPM to get the correct drive ratio. It is 1.91:1. The first throttle probably looses some boost, but I have made it really tight so I do not think it can leak such an amount that it would matter.

  • @hiperformancestore
    @hiperformancestore 14 лет назад

    Very unique supercharger setup. Awesome carbon fiber work. It looks like you have a supercharger drive ratio of over 2:1 so it should have a lot more than 3.xx pounds of boost. I suspect it's losing boost through the first throttle, and probably some other locations as well. Overall Really impressive car. Check out my Alfa supercharging/turbocharging videos.

  • @Alfatrimmarn
    @Alfatrimmarn  12 лет назад

    I used the second throttle position sensor as a switch to energize a single pole double throw relay. The relay was connected to the start injector in such a way that the start injector worked as it should during starting. The starting injector was constantly open at full throttle when I had the supercharger activated. But I would not advise you to use the start injector because your engine will still run lean.

    Excluding the used blower I bought for 300€ I did not buy much else than the silicon hoses. I made most of the parts myself. I used the stock L-jet the first four years. I had the startup enrichment injector activated when the engine was at full throttle with the SC activated. It did run lean although I only had 0.2bar boost.

  • @himbergerd

    Incredible build. All that carbon must have saved a ton of weight on the car. HOW? did you make the door handles? you could go into business making driver handles-a much better improvement and harder to break :)
    Also, that is an amazing SC install. it is very ingenious how you use the N/A intake when the SC is running.
    What has been improved with it lately?...i guess i need to view ALL your video posts :)
    Keep up the GREAT WORK!

  • @Alfatrimmarn
    @Alfatrimmarn  14 лет назад

    @madk4speed Thank you. The fuel consumption was around 8l/100km when I used the stock ECU. With MS2 it has been 7.4 to 8.2l/100km. This is measured on almost only country roads mostly with a speed limit of 100km/h. But it is hard to say if the mileage improvement is only because of Megasquirt or if there is an improvement at all. This summer there were too many track days to measure the consumption on a longer period than 350km at a time.
    Yes I am still using the stock ignition coil.

  • @Alfatrimmarn

    The clutch is a modified clutch from a Alfa 164 air condition compressor. The supercharger isn’t made specifically for Alfas. When I drive without the supercharger activated the engine breaths through the air filter on the passenger side. When the SC is activated air goes in through the driver side air filter. If the engine isn’t at full throttle all the surplus air the SC produces goes out through the passenger side air filter.

    I also have an indicator light telling me it is fully closed. The rest of the system has been checked and does not leak. My supercharger is not in perfect condition and probably leaks internally between the lobes. The first throttle will soon be made completely air tight.
    My engine has been modified and breathes more air when driving full throttle without boost than an original engine. So the supercharger needs a higher drive ratio to make boost for this engine.

    DIS ignition is an option for you, will give you much stronger spark, allowing you to play with the spark plug gap and various types of spark plugs. It could also give you a better mileage in theory. It's so easy to go DIS ignition. Why don't you give it a try?
    Also when you tuned your engine, did you focus in economy or power?

  • @Alfatrimmarn

    @321Mobil I made all of my parts by putting in a lot of work hours. The complex parts required a lot of work. In the production I use heat and vacuum.

  • @namibgtv6

    My blow-off valve sits on the pipe about 4 inches from my intake. Initially access air was vented to atmosphere, but obviously this was wrong, as my AFM (standard bosch) was before my charger, and this caused massive overfuelling in off-throttle boost conditions. I solved this by installing a return pipe from my blow-off to the intake pipe between my AFM and charger. Worked perfect. Bottom end fuelling good, but still under fuels at full tap. How did you connect start injector for full tap fuel?

      +Matthew Neuforth the clutch for the supercharger is a modified magnetic clutch from a AC compressor from a Alfa 164 3.0

    • @NecromancerGarage
      @NecromancerGarage 9 лет назад

      +Alfatrimmarn Does it hold up well? I'd imagine the clutch would burn up pretty fast.

      +Matthew Neuforth I have used the same clutch for my eaton M62 since 2006. It has now done about 40000km and lots of laps on racetracks.

    • @NecromancerGarage
      @NecromancerGarage 9 лет назад

      +Alfatrimmarn Holy cow. Stock clutch? also, what's the benefit of clutching it? I mean, as long as you don't stomp on it, you wouldn't lose much.

    • @Alfatrimmarn
      @Alfatrimmarn  9 лет назад

      +Matthew Neuforth Modified clutch to enable the supercharger to spin more than twice as fast as the engine. The benefit is better fuel mileage, no downsides.
