Lyrics:
[SERA]
I don't know what to do
Thought I was righteously leading our people, but
Now I'm faced with the truth
What kind of leader can't tell good from evil?
All those poor souls, how many could have been saved?
How could I trust in a justice so cruel and depraved?
[SPEAKER OF GOD]
One seeks an answer that one can not grant her
You're looking for light only you can ignite
Every transgression must serve as a lesson
Yesterday, you drew sorrow
What will you do tomorrow?
[SERA & SPEAKER OF GOD]
I feel no wiser than when I commanded the slaughter of those sons and daughters
(You can't hide)
How can I be sure I don't repeat more massacre based on mistaken conceit?
(Look inside)
If I stand down and leave us exposed, would that be blind to the threat Hell may pose?
[SPEAKER OF GOD]
You can't know, though time flows on
So you must bear the cross bestowed upon you
[SERA]
Take pity, I pray
Give me a sign, what's your guidance?
Please show me the way
[SPEAKER OF GOD & SERA]
You speak of choices made by other voices
You can only atone (Tell me how to atone)
Once you speak with your own
[SERA]
If souls from damnation
Can earn their salvation
And find their forgiveness on high
How do I?

"You speak of choices made by other voices" is key because Sera asks what she should do and the Speaker indicates that noone else can take the responsibility of making your decisions from you or make choices for you. Sera has to figure out what the right course of action is by and for herself and live with the consequences of her actions.
Awesome point. Adding on to it; I think it’s also on theme with Pentious being redeemed through his own self reflection. He had reflected on his actions in life and recognized exactly what he had done to be sent to Hell. Since he so deeply regretted his actions, he felt that’s what his soul deserved. Once he took the chance to make up for his mistakes in life through sacrificing himself to defend his friends, he was able to forgive himself so his soul was redeemed. Only he could make things right within himself. He was redeemed due to his own agency, which lines up with the dual nature of the Free Will that Lucifer gifted humanity.
@Dumb-Diddly-Umptiousyou nailed it on the head. Beautifully said and proving media literacy isn't dead.
its not that he made a sacrifice, its that he actually took action rather than watching like he did when he witnessed sum1 dying when he was alive. pentious was redeemed cuz he took action, not that he sacrificed.
I feel like it also hints that Adam put the idea of extermination in her head in the first place
Thanks to Sir Pentious sacrifice, we get this beautiful song
Yep and his back story. Apparently people say he saw Jack the Ripper because the time line lines up I do believe it but thats my opinion
Yeah, thank you, Sir Pentious
The thing i love about this sequence is that it shows exactly why Sera was in charge of protecting Heaven: she genuinely believed what she did and never did anything out of mere malice. It's a surprisingly good display of old wisdom clashing with newfound knowledge, and taking responsibility for the issues created from that while being judged fairly.
And then there's Lute doing the extreme opposite.
I really love what Season 2 did with Sera. In a single episode they made her something of a foil to Charlie- someone just doing her best to do right by her people; while not being sure what that “right” is.
Lute is completely in the right.
@theunknowncommenter725lmao. No.
@theunknowncommenter725 She is angry someone killed ver loved one, something She has been doing for centuries lmao.
I really love the Speaker of God. She’s so kind and understanding.
I really love her too!
Me too. I really hope we see more of her
God I hope the speaker isn’t a wolf in sheep’s clothing
Yeah it shows how wise she is, not jugemental. Just telling you that your the one who need to make your own path and what you should do next.
Same here, she's someone who your truly want to trust.
The Speaker's voice is so beautiful I got emotional. Sera's voice is so powerful filled with regret. I can't wait to hear more of the songs in season 2.
Liz Callway is an amazing singer! She played the singing voice of Anastasia :D
@YorkshireNutte Don't forget the singing voice of Princess Odette from The Swan Princess.
What's the speaker is she a stand in for God??
@yuricanseco1291 It's the most powerful angel that represents God
@yuricanseco1291Yeah, Vivzie mentioned she didn't want to include God in the show, so the Speaker is equivalent to the Metatron, who is the voice of God, and the immediate intermediary between God and the other angels.
This sounds liké a fusion between a Broadway song and one of those OLD Disney songs that really had that Epic vibe
Masterclass
Exactly! It gives me really strong hunchback of notre dame vibes for some reason
@Lyaaa_33took the words right out of my mouth! This song is really giving those vibes and I’m all for it!
Which makes sense given The Speakers Voice Actress sang some songs for Disney and Disney esc properties
Yeah it feels like those old disney movies were they were more focused on grand and story telling.
0:27 reminded me of Angel of Music from Phantom of the Opera a little bit !!
The only crime for this song is that it's too short 😂😭❤️
On my first watch I thought the song was a little fast paced, but after a second listen the only issue I have with the song is that it *is* too short lol.
THAT “You can’t hiiiiiiiIIiiiiide” BRO MY SOUL, definitely top 3 character.
It’s nice to finally hear this song officially, and not leaked
I just avoided the songs. I'd see them on youtube but wouldn't listen.
Agreed. Now it's stuck in my head forever.
Sera: Don't you know, what I've done?!
The Voice: Yes, but what will you do now?
Soooo many feeeeeels!!!
This gave me all The Prince of Egypt vibes
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! IM SO GLAD SOMEBODY ELSE HEARS IT
Now that you mention it I hear it too
Right, it really does
RIGHTT???
RIGHT?
The speakers presence is simply overwhelming she's stunning
Her singing voice is LIz Calloway who also is the singing voice for Anastasia in the movie Anastasia
Fr
I love this so much! Sera strikes me as one of the best morally grey characters in the Hellaverse. She just wants to do what's best for her people, but, as the Speaker of God said, she seems to take in everyone's opinions but her own. Not saying to dismiss what others completely, but there are some situations where you need to do it on your own.
The speaker of god sounds like a strong minded spirit. You can feel how strong she is expecially when sera asked "take pity i pray give me a sign" shes seeing her almost as a guide. Because shes indeed the path.
God is always compassionate to those who turn to Him for guidance. Things go wrong when people don’t.
@xTwilightWolvesxExcept he’s as fictional as the characters themselves.
@Xanthos307 some people find god fictional, some dont and I honestly believe on god.. if spirits exists I think that a stronger entity has to exist. But if you don't agree its fine ❤️🩹
@ViznxpGood say brother
@Xanthos307 can the same be said about you?
“Yesterday you drew sorry, what will you do tomorrow?”
She’s so wise..truly the Speaker Of God. Gives me Master Oogway vibes and the music that plays reminds me of old music by Disney…like Beauty and the Beast or old Fox Century…like Anastasia…
The Speaker is Anastasia's singing voice.
Tied with "Gravity" for my favourite song, perhaps in the whole show.
I thought it couldn't get better than gravity but here we are
Crazy cause these are the first two episodes
What does this mean for the rest of the season
ragebait, this is the worst song in the series
@Eshenta1 welcome to heaven it starts with sorry wpuld like to have a word with you
@Eshenta1nice ragebait
The Speaker sounds like Celestia from MLP, I know it's not Nicole Oliver but still that's the impression the voice and character have given me
SAME i feel like this song would be in mlp lol
SHE DOESSS
Now I really need someone to make an animatic of Celestia and Twilight to this
YOU SO RIGHT OMG 😭
Same
I've shed tears when the Speaker appeared and when she started talking, I'm an atheist but if something like this started talking to me, not gonna lie, I'd probably start praying
Glad im not the only one lmao
I am a very religious and catholic person and I live how this song kind of shows what I believe God to be like 'cause it's a pretty good rapresentation of wisdom and I really really really really hope she doesn't turn out to be secretly evil 'cause that would feel so bad❤
Also feel you, this song is SO ethereal❤
"if souls from damnation can earn their salvation.. and find their forgiveness on high?... How do I?.." 😭😭😭 beautiful ❤️
This is givin Disney Renaissance vibes
"You cant know though time flows on, so you must bear the CROSS bestowed upon you"
The speaker of God's voice is top tier
0:42 gave me chills. rlly hope she doesn’t turn out to be evil!!
Sera's voice is so powerful. You can HEAR years worth of regrets, fear, and guilt that she forced herself to suppress coming to the surface.
And the Speaker of God's voice is filled with compassion and forgiveness, while her actual responses to Sera are layered with JUST enough vagueness where she doesn't give a straight answer, but rather gently encourages Sera to follow her own path. And that's without acknowledging the subtle religious symbolism in her lyrics or the CHILLING visuals! This season has JUST started and I already have a favorite song along with Gravity!
the speaker is a true pure angel unlike the others.
Sera's fascinating here because she's realised she's done so much wrong and that redemption exists in one fell swoop. Her worldview is shattered and she's praying like so many guilty people do that someone will tell her how to fix things and alieviate that guilt, but no one can tell you how to be a better person. Sera has to figure it out the hard way like every sinner she's condemned
She even did the ‘Father, I have sinned’ thing to the Speaker of God…
oh this resonates so well
Crazy how this is already the best song in the season
I thought Gravity was already great. Then this slaps me across the face, lol.
IKR like gravity, rock, hard, revenge filled and then THiS basically the complete opposite (in my opinion) and then this angelic, loud, worrying, redemption
I'm still shaken by Gravity getting overthrown.
The Speaker has a beautiful voice to her.....thanks you viv for bringing Liz Callaway Odette/Jasmine/Anastasia singing voice!
I knew she was Anastasia I had no clue she was the others!
And singing voice of Kiara from “Lion King 2”.
Odette from the animated swan princess movie?
This is exactly why you shouldn't make finalised conclusions about a character based on their very limited representation. Back in season 1 everyone demonised Sera for a reflection of fire in her eyes. Too many people didn't understand that it was specifically from Emily's perspective at that specific moment. It showed how Emily saw her after finding out about the exterminations, not what she actually is.
We also might end up having some similar case Lilith. Or this sentence ages horribly. Who knows. Don't make conclusions
Sera simply let Adam's words build up her fear and she made bad decisions based on assumptions that were not even true. Before the last extermination nobody in Hell wanted to rise against Heaven. This is what happen when people listen to their fear and I believe this is what Speaker was trying to tell her too. Sera made the mistake to search for guidance from someone else instead of being the voice to guide others herself even though it was her role to do so.
To be fair to others, there was literally no known way demons could even hurt angels until the *last* extermination, so Hell really posed no threat *until now.* Why be worried about an uprising when you're invincible as far as you know? I mean, unless she thought lucifer would be fighting as well.
And im speaking as someone who never believed Sera was evil. Just an extremist
@xmant8842 Yeah but only Sinners might be trying to rise against Heaven. Technically speaking the best approach now would be for Sera to literally talk with Lucifer himself. Because unless Lucifer would decide to start a war against Heaven, the Hellborn demons aren't even part of the whole Extermination story so not really a big chance for them to want to rise against Heaven, and Sinners could literally be kept in line if necessary if Lucifer would have the balls to act like the King he is supposed to be. So technically, not a giant threat either for Heaven. Is there even a way for sinners to access Heaven in the first place? Because if Heaven just completely stop the exterminations and angels just don't go in Hell at al, what sinners could do to "kill more angels"? Not a lot I feel.
@RakuenKakashi I partially disagre, because Lilith. She is pretty directly said to have prepared uprising of sinners against heaven, which was part of the reason why exterminations were implemented in the first place. We still don't know the whole story.
@nicvamp1re Not really.. it just have been said she had empowered demons with her voice, but nowhere it have been said that she was planning an uprising against Heaven. Empowering is a very vague word that can mean a lot of things. From what I have personally understood is that when Lucifer and Lilith arrived in Hell there was nothing and so she pretty much built the foundation of Hell instead of just living on deserted rocks, which can be a form of empowerment too. Heaven just got scared because Hell's population was getting bigger.
From my point of view Lilith seems like a bitch that plays on both sides at the same time honestly. I don't like her, she doesn't give me good vibes.
0:54 YOU CAN’T HIDE 😶🌫️🫣😇
Liz Callaway’s voice is amazing!
The most powerful line of the song, for me, has to be "when I commanded the slaughter of those sons and daughters" because Sera has just realized those sinners were people with families, and because of her decision, they'll never see their loved ones again. And as she's walking through the magically projected hellscape seeing Exorcists cleave through defenseless sinners left and right, she's horrified at the carnage and the knowledge that she's responsible for all the pain and fear the exterminations brought with them. She knows it's all her fault. But for now, her fear that Hell will rise up seeking revenge overpowers her guilt and willingness to change. She doesn't know what to do or how to fix this.
And that's why she will suffer the punishment of guilty
0:46 the beat goes insane, im so obssesed with this part
SAME, I NEED A LONGER VERSON
Man I really like the character of the speaker. A true force of light that represents what it truly means to be good and can find it in the darkest of places
Is NO ONE Gonna talk about that the Speaker of God is voiced by *_LIZ CALLAWAY?!!!!!!!!_* *_THE VOICE OF OUR CHILDHOODS!!!!_*
Like Anastasia.
I love how this song actually gave the answer to how souls ascend to heaven where the rest of the cast isnt entirely sure- its not strictly not performing sin. Its acknowledging your mistakes and working to be better. Angel still blames himself and others and so he didnt ascend. While Pentious came to terms with his sin, for not acting to save others, and through working to be better by standing up to Adam for his fellow sinners, he ascended.
This episode had the 2 best songs so far
i actually cant express how much i love this song
LIZ CALLAWAY THE QUEEN THAT YOU AAAAAAARE OMG!!! 😭😭😭 Both their voices were so perfect!!! No one overpowered the other!!
"Yesterday you drew sorrow, what will you do tomorrow?" I love this line. The speaker is basically saying "Yep, you f-ed up. What are you going to do about it?" which is really the core of repentance
I can't be the only one who gets Prince of Egypt vibes from this song, right? It's so dope.
SO TRUE!! Lately been rewatching prince of Egypt and I'm hearing some sort of resemblance vibe from this
My one problem with Prince of Egypt is that it never made the Burning Bush conversation into a song. This makes me think of what could have been.
@weirdguy1495missed opportunity on their part unfortunately
We’re encroaching upon Prince of Egypt levels of music here people
Sera's voice is SO full of sorrow and regret. I'm so happy she gets to be such a multifaceted character and not the blindly ambitious control freak we got in s1! The speaker is so awesome inspiring as well! Perfect voice acting from Liz, as always.
The speaker is my favorite character introduced in this episode, she looks so regal and sings so beautifully
i think it's safe to say that the Speaker is the first 100% total positive pure godly good character we see
I really hope there’s not some half-baked twist that the Speaker is anything other than the kind benevolent being she appears to be. She has such a calming presence. I liked that this episode established that it’s not as simple as “demons good, angels bad.” There’s nuance to the angels just like there is to the demons. If that gets thrown out the window and the Speaker turns out to secretly be a horrible person I’ll be so annoyed
I do not think she going to have a half-baked twist, cause like in the song she never tried to direct Sera in a certain way, more like help her realize that she needs to take responsibility for her actions and think how to improve.
Plus, this is what I interpret, the Speaker has kind of like semi-omniscient, cause she can know when someone tells the truth, could replicate Pentious final moments with her power, knew Pentious true name, even through it was not mentioned in the episode prior and the only time we see her be a little confused was when Lute declared herself the new leader of the exorcists, cause when I first watched it I thought that the Speaker also did not know about the exorcists, but then immediately Abel says that he was choose, with the Speaker not reacting surprised at all, so what confused the Speaker was the lie that Lute told, cause most likely it conflicted with what she already knew.
@Yudaisei0I agree
All I ask this season is that Speaker of God doesn't turn evil. I really like her, I don't want them to do such a thing 😭
Same!
0:12 especially one of HEAVEN
We can’t really act like she isn’t justified tho
@Vortex0931NO, SHES NOT, YOU CANT JUSTIFY GENOCIDE, AGAINST ANYONE
@easternwoyer3876its less genocide and more death row penalty. One where the death row inmates are treated like animals, but most of them don't deserve much better. Do serial killers, rapists, pedophiles and the like really deserve to go to heaven? Where their victims are?
@easternwoyer3876So let’s use a real world example. If the Nazis were slowly gaining more power, were we just supposed to stay stagnant? They were in fact very evil, but if we didn’t do anything to fight against them, they would’ve done harm to those who are better morally. Hell is Hell. There are all kinds of messed up people in there. We LITERALLY see them talking about a revolution in episode 1. That’s what she did the exterminations for.
Why wouldn’t you want to protect the people who haven’t done much harm themselves
Honestly, the Speaker might be entering my top five hellaverse characters. Just such an angelic ba dum tss voice.
You can't change the past. But you can change the future
I saw the song as a leak originally but my god this is better when it’s fully finished
Same - I can’t get enough of the instrumentals now
It's angelic ❤
no shit
I started to cry the more I listened and love this so beautiful song so much !!! 😢😭💛💛💛😊🥰😇
Liz Callaway has always had a strong presence ❤ her character sounds so wise, lol
This song made me cry with how beautiful the speaker of god's voice is
People expected the Speaker of God to be the Mouth of Sauron but I really like this version instead.
Heaven SHOULD BE a good place. Otherwise it'd be like "why's Charlie even sending them there!?"
Usually the Metatron is an asshole when they appear in a story (Supernatural, Good Omens)
It came natural to me to not trust her, I guess!
@ReaderNumber7 Don't know Good Omens but I get your point on Supernatural
Hii, I am a Chatolic person but I didn't know about the Mouth of Sauron, could you please explain to me what it is? Genuinly curious, looks interesting and I want to know more about my own religion
@JustANormalRUclipsChannel-r9g It is not about Catholicism, it's a Lord of the Rings reference. Basically in the books, he's the guy who speaks for the big bad of the trilogy.
I don't see God as a big bad and I don't think he should be. God should be good.
@Turcepique ohh that makes sense. Thanks for explaining❤
I think this might just be the best song in the show so far!
Just like with Emily and Vassago, I like the speaker already, given how wise and supportive she was, not to mention tolerant
I genuinely like how we got an entire episode in Heaven. I wanted to see more of that realm.
We already saw the Speaker of God, perhaps in the season finale we will see God himself, maybe as a cameo.
It’s funny how outside of Welcome to Heaven (the worst song by a comfortable margin), the other songs set in Heaven are peak.
@weirdguy1495lol
1:22 holyyy✨✨😍🤩
It's so cool seeing that the Speaker resembles a Goetia. This further proves how the Ars Goetia race were angels who were banned from heaven just like Lucifer
This literally a prince of egypt and old disney songs vibe holy peak
I really hope the Speaker isn't a secret villain, because her voice is so inspiring and empowering. Problem is, Emily is a pure good character and Sera is moving in the direction of all good as well so having 3 compassionate characters with minimal flaws on the same side seems unlikely, narratively speaking.
I feel like Sera really wants the speaker to REALLY give her guidance but Sera feels dismissed.
It's interesting how The Speaker is actually giving advice, but not the kind Sera wants.
@sandy_nes31I think that’s what most Christians feel, I myself sometimes do. But it’s a really good portrayal - God does give us answers. They may not be the exact answers we’d like or ask for, but they would help us if we just.. listened, I suppose
Chills. Genuinely stunning ❤
1:22 SERAS HIGH NOTE IS SO GOOD!!
Atone and redemption cannot happened without punishment, Será punishment is the guilty of those death's, the speakers said that she must life with that consequence and be better but the punishment will never leave her
“You speak of choices made by other voices, you can only atone once you speak with your own” CHILLS.
I've been feeling depressed and like I want someone to take over my life and make my choices for me. This song spoke to me 🥺❤️
We all have our failings, Sera; even those who are righteous
INCREDIBLE!
I'm so happy Heaven in the show is a good place, after all! That gives more weight to Charlie's goal of wanting people to go there.
Heaven already is a good place and completely in the right before. Viv obviously has some unresolved religious trauma was she literally cannot tell the difference between good and evil. It's so frustrating.
@theunknowncommenter725you do know viv showed heaven to be good so I don't get your point
@theunknowncommenter725 I believe that even people in heaven can learn something new, if thats true means some can be wrong on certain things until learn the truth.
Man this is good, it reminds me so much of classical musicals/Disney
FIRE SONG LOVE THE HIGH NOTES!!!🔥🔥🔥
So good
Fascinating how Sera is so focused on "what do we tell people/me is the correct way to behave" and the Speaker's entire existence in the show is "life is complicated so you have to make the decision about what to live with for yourself, and this is a feature not a bug"
Finally we can hear 1:03 through 1:09 with the right key and singer
Spent days listening to Gravity but this might be my favorite over that one
I love the vocals in this song so high strong
I loved this song so much! It's so powerful! Also I love speaker of god! She is so calm, beautiful!
Literal goosebumps with this one 💕
You know the song kinda sounds like those psalm readings that people sometimes sing during masses.
The Speaker is GORGEOUS and I love her voice. I’m stealing her
I need more people talking about how the Speak of God is Liz Callaway. She's such an icon
When I watched this episode and heard this song it gave me chills and also showed that it never to late for everyone to fix their mistakes
1:22-1:27 scratches my brain in a good way
0:26
God I can't help but think of Princess Celestia whenever I hear the Speaker (if that's her actual name idk) talk/sing
This is really giving the Jekyll and Hyde musical
I love this song
I love this character please don’t let her be a wolf in sheep’s clothing
I can’t quite tell what it is but for some reason this feels so much like an EPIC the musical song to me, am I crazy?
I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS
It's the style of vocal layering. There are motifs the charecters go back to and they take turns as the lead singer. They also have a lot of emotion and there is just the right amount of beat to it to make it sound similar.
It's similar to warrior of the mind in a way
Yes, this song sounds like an antithesis to songs like "no longer you" and the later "monster," where the morally gray character has a turning point when contemplating everything they've done so far and the new information they've received from another person, except that Sera seems to want to start somehow atoning for what she's done and prevent more bloodshed, unlike Odysseus who ended up sinking deeper into ruthlessness
Look not everyone deserves to be saved, but you need to separate the people who deserve a second chance and the people who don’t and won’t take a second chance
No one deserves to be saved. It’s not about deserving. It’s about repentance.
1:39 ACKK HER VOICE HERE
“How do I” 😭❤️
When I saw it was Liz Calloway I was so happy to hear her voice again
I've never heard Liz Callaway (The Speaker) before today, but her voice made me cry. Literally.
• Odette in _The Swan Princess_ movies?
• Jasmine in the _Aladdin_ sequels?
• Anastasia from _Anastasia_ ?
Any of those sound familiar to you? It’s completely understandable if you haven’t heard her at any point, but these are some commonly known examples of her work
I'm getting real Prince of Egypt vibes from this song.
this song sounds like an antithesis to songs like "no longer you" and the later "monster", from EPIC: the musical, where the morally gray character has a turning point when contemplating everything they've done so far and the new information they've received from another person, except that Sera seems to want to start somehow atoning for what she's done and prevent more bloodshed, unlike Odysseus who ended up sinking deeper into ruthlessness
This song was so beautiful bro I was sobbing
Wow the numbers on this song keep growing literally every day haha I love it ❤
That voice soothes me through the soul.. ☺️
0:26 *hears and recognizes the Speaker's singing voice* Odette?!
Liz Calloway or one of the others?
@storysstorytime That is definitely Liz Calloway herself.
And the singing voice of Princess Jasmine
@marco98nOnly in the sequels. It was Leo Salonga in the original.
I do find it interesting to have a character parallel between Sera and Sir Pentious. One is an angelic being that does know what redemption means but can't take the required actions to redeem herself and the other was a demonic being that took action to redeem himself but doesn't understand why he was redeemed, before the god speaker was speaking to him. In both cases the god speaker was talking to them about the required actions to take, with Sera, or to show the actions they did with Sir Pentious.
