We on the Left, would do well to acknowledge, that there is a problem, of a lack of valuing of education/skill acquisition - its importance, by a significant percentage of people. Government can't do everything for people. We all have basic obligations, to ourselves and society. The war on poverty likely was lost, because the people who it was largely fought for, were not made to understand, that they would have to do the bulk of the fighting. They were not given specific marching orders. They were not made aware, of the importance of the war being fought and won, and the consequences to themselves, and the country, if it were lost. Wealth disparity is not the only cause of poverty - certainly not why it persist, to the extent it does. There is a culture that has grown out of poverty, which helps perpetuates itself. This is true for both urban & rural poverty.

Instead of the ridiculous call to defund and abolish police and prisons, as if in doing so, all crimes would cease, and all people in prison are innocent, the woke should have been calling for the refunding of schools, so all the traditional courses that were once taught in public schools, can be restored and some new ones added, that may be needed, because of the changes technology has brought about. Money alone cannot solve these social problems. We on the Left, must start asking more from the people, other than just to vote and listen too and believe woke rhetoric. Democrat politicians must know that the stupid call to defund and abolish police and prisons hurt them politically, so why do they simply ignore it? That makes no sense. It’s a catch 22 because without the fundraising, they lose, and are replaced with toadies of the billionaire class. But with all their fundraising, they either lose focus or become toadies themselves. Citizens United is working as designed. We need a complete overhaul, and I don’t think it’s within the power of Democrats (or anyone else) to pull that off without a total popular demand for it.

As someone who was educated in other countries and had 2 parents who were superb teachers, and having taught American college students about 15 years ago, I quibble with his assertion that America was EVER the ‘best education system in the world’.
Same. I came to the US at 13 and spent the next 4 years unmotivated and bored. Good grades on a mind-numbing multiple choice exam that doesn’t even contributing to whether you pass the class or not are NOT a good standard for education as a whole.
Then I went to college with other poor and rich people and realized it didn’t matter, both private and public schools suck so as a parent if you’re not paying for extracurricular classes your child will be mediocre compared to an international student 4 grades lower.
America has not ever had proper transport system like other counties
