Bede one of those rare occasions where a Trainer that used to specialize on a single Type, but as the story goes on, they change their Type specialty. First of all, his pre-Leader outfit resembles the outfits Johto and Kanto's Psychics wore in Generation II games, which made him a spiritual successor to that Trainer Class as a pure Psychic Pokémon user. After Ballonlea Town's Ms. Opal spotted him, she radicalized him into becoming a Fairy-Type expert, but instead of just focusing on Fairy-Types, Bede made sure to include the Psychic type in his roster (his signature Pokémon, Hatterene, is the prime example of this). If there were a "Sword 2/Shield 2" in the future, it would be set after The Crown Tundra, where Bede would remain as Ballonlea's official Gym Leader.
No matter how hated Bede is, I don't think he should have only a couple seconds of dialogue (at least that's all I've heard of him here) in Twilight Wings.
