I wonder if someone can answer this question.. why is sand added to the mix please ? I was thinking of using cement and plaster with water, but nevertheless thought of white sand as well
Great question. Think of cement as the glue and sand as the strength. Added together with water and you get concrete. Without sand your vessel will not be strong.
I want to try your mixture but first I have a question. Have you had any cracks on the container do to the candle heat. I can’t get cementall where I live but I m afraid to expand that money and cracks happen.also what size wick do you recommend. Muchas gracias
I did some preliminary tests with no issues and I have not heard of anyone having issues. You will need to test though as all cement and plaster are not created equal.
@upvibecandle Ok, just so I understand correctly, with this cement / plaster / sand mix, you do still water bathe them? And you do this after the 72 hour curing? I just want to be sure I understand so I don’t mess the jars up. Thanks 😊
Hello! Thank you for the amazing video.🎈I did ithe pots and i bath them for 24 hours. How long do i have to let them cure before i put the sealer and the soy wax?

Thanks for the videos!! I tried this last night. This morning it still not dry. 😥 I used white masonry cement, plaster, water, coloring. I probably need to stick with cement all.
If you have access to Cement All then just use that. However, if your vessel seems wet it has too much water. This formula is fast drying and should be able to be demolded in a half hour. You put water in that and took that total number and it came up with the equation of numbers that you're given with the grams. Okay but how did you get to that formula So did you multiply divide like how did you come up with those numbers
Great video, thanks for this. Can I ask why plaster of paris is added, is it to make the vessel lighter? I would've thought the plaster would decrease strength of the concrete (cement/sand) mix. Thanks

If white sand in not available in our region then kindly share alternative we have grey sand
Greetings from Ecuador! Quick question, do you waterbath the vessels using this formula? Thanks!
No but if you find that your concrete cracks place a plastic over it to slow down the drying process. Watch my video on water bathing. That will help.
Thanks!
Hello, great explanation, does the candle separate from the jar
Thanks. No.
What brand of sand do you use? I never seen white sand before
Please share the brand
Hello!!! Very interesting video, well explained and entertaining at the same time.
My question is: What kind of white plaster (I know there are different types but I don't know which one to use) and sand (constitution?) do you use in this video? And so I can know which one to buy.
Also can I use this formula to make several mini candle holders and have better resistance. Thank you.
Greetings from Peru 🇵🇪.
I used plaster of paris for this video to show that you should be able to use pretty much anything. I have tested it in a candle without issues. However, not all plaster, sand, cement nor water are the same so your results might vary. I also used regular play sand. Hope that helps.
@@upvibecandle Excellent, thank you very much for answering my question. Now I just have to find all the necessary materials here in my country and try this new formula. Thanks again. Have a nice day!.
@@valeridoutt Let me know how it goes!
Can i use green sand or black sand. Being from hawaii
Yes but it won’t be white.
I can't find the sand to purchase from your list
can i ask what the purpose of the plaster of paris is? i have been making candles out of concrete with just the cement, sand and water and they appear very strong and beautiful as is. thank you.
Keep doing what works for you. Here is a video that is similar to the one you watched but answers your question in detail. ruclips.net/video/aU7LLxgDmbk/видео.html
Hi Jay
Based on what did you select those ratio’s as the best ones please?
Don’t we need more sand to make it stronger?
Thanks
Have a nice day ☺️
Great question. You don't necessarily need more said BUT... It does work if you add more sand and less plaster. However, it changes the water as well. I am working on a new formula now and will put something together with the adjustments. Thanks for the comment.
@@upvibecandle thanks for the information. I m going to get the supplies, test them and I will let you know. I love this art, but for me is a hobby.
Are you using white grout? I am trying to find white cement at
Lowes or Home Depot
White cement that I bought from Amazon
Such great content!! 🎉 curious how long you let them sit out of mold, and then how long you water bath for :)
I cure them for 72 hours and water bathe them for 24.
Why is it necessary to bathe the concrete?
@upvibecandle
Ok, just so I understand correctly, with this cement / plaster / sand mix, you do still water bathe them? And you do this after the 72 hour curing? I just want to be sure I understand so I don’t mess the jars up. Thanks 😊
Hello! Thank you for the amazing video.🎈I did ithe pots and i bath them for 24 hours. How long do i have to let them cure before i put the sealer and the soy wax?
I let mine cure for 3 days. Best thing to do is weigh them daily until you see the weight is consistently the same. If you don't have a scale check out the description and I share the scale I use. I hope that helps.
@@upvibecandle it helps a lot!! Thank you again!! Keep up the stunning work!!
@@dhalari75 You are very welcome and thanks!
@@upvibecandle can I understand what one means by curing? after 24 hours water bath, let it dry for minimum 3 days or keep it moist?
@@anjukhanna946 Curing of concrete is defined as providing adequate moisture, temperature, and time to allow the concrete to achieve the desired properties for its intended use. Weigh your pots everyday. The day they don't decrease in weight is the day you can start to seal them.
So other cement can be used if we haven’t got that type off cement that’s in the title and when using this what seal would you use thanks
Check out my sealant videos that will help you greatly. I use ESF and that works great. I have even used it on my formula and it is amazing. Here is my formula with ESF. instagram.com/p/Cq8LtJhMocJ/. Cement can vary from location to location so you have to buy something that you think will work and test it. I wish I had a more solid answer but unfortunately all of these products are too different to give you a solid answer.
Where do you get the white sand? Is it the same stuff used in aquariums? How coarse does it need to be?
You can get white sand at a fish store, hardware store or here on Amazon. amzn.to/3c9Ve24
@@upvibecandle Thank you for this video and your help. If I may ask one more question. I am making an incense holder. The incense cone will be levitation with electromagnet but the base on which the smoke falls is like in this video below. I need to that smooth detailed and textured feel.
Will the mix you have shared give me a fine look or do I need to sieve thr sand or then not use sand?
Any thoughts you have would help.

Thank you for the video. Using this recipe, do you have to wet cure the vessel for a few days or can I just seal it once it's dry? I ask because I use a formula of Portland cement, waterproof cement and sand to make my vessels. When they dry, I submerge them in water for 72 hours. The vessels are strong but kind of heavy.
You are very welcome. The times that I have used this formula I have water bathed them so I would say yes.
@@upvibecandle Will definitely try your recipe. Thank you so much. Greetings from Nigeria.😊
@@ngoziagbakwu32 Awesome! Let me know how it goes... And hi from the USA.
add some cooking spray to the mold before pouring
Sir hydrocal or hydrostone ultracal are not available at my city Quetta pakistan any alternative plz? 😏
Wow that is so cool. You are reaching out to me from Pakistan. Love it!!! Well, did you see my video on Alternatives? ruclips.net/video/yczZX6TzO3k/видео.html. Try Jai's formula. You should be able to get cement, sand and a little regular plaster.
Thank you sir for kind information i wached this vedio and will try it again.
Keep in mind not all cement, plaster nor sand is the same... so depending on the products you use you will see varying results.
@@upvibecandle it's my third rodeo with this similar recipe. I just some titanium dioxide so cement all tonight! My newest obsession. I'm not giving up on these trays! Lol!
@@nezumithe-mouse6319 Great. Let me know how it goes. Here is the video with the Cement All formula if you need. ruclips.net/video/0CfN0kw4HpY/видео.html
@@upvibecandle thanks! What is your recommendation for the titanium dioxide? It's white.
@@nezumithe-mouse6319 Use 5% of your mixture as the maximum amount. Any more than 5% of your mixture and you start to compromise the integrity of your vessel.
About how much pigment was added?
Can I also use grey cement?
Yes
Okay so yes I'm still confused I don't get it. So your 3-in diameter 3 in high mold. You put water in that and took that total number and it came up with the equation of numbers that you're given with the grams. Okay but how did you get to that formula So did you multiply divide like how did you come up with those numbers
It's a formula I created by trial and error.
Jai, if I want to make this recipe but in a color, how do I adjust the recipe?
This video explains it. ruclips.net/video/7t01Bs6waSM/видео.html
I don’t like cutting the molds either. It’s pretty easy to get it over the lip.
Right?! I have not cut one to this day. 😁
How many jars can you make in one day?
Can I use only white cement without the sand and the plaster for moulds ? Also why you add plaster and the sand to cement ??
I have never had success without sand and plaster. Sand strengthens the vessel and plaster adds more binding to it.
Can we add pvc glue in this material to make it more stronger?
No!!! Do not add glue at all.
I add a spoonful of PVA to my concrete for my small sculptures. Builders often add PVA to their concrete mix.
@@upvibecandle
Great video, thanks for this. Can I ask why plaster of paris is added, is it to make the vessel lighter? I would've thought the plaster would decrease strength of the concrete (cement/sand) mix. Thanks
Thanks. Plaster adds more binding to the mixture. Keep in mind that not all cement and plaster are the equal so it all depends on what you buy. Even plaster of Paris in one country isn't quite the same in another.
I think plaster is for to make it dry faster.
@@Neal_McBeal plaster in the mixture acts as a binding and strengthening agent. It also helps it dry faster.
@@upvibecandle thank you.
Would adding crushed stone make the product stronger?
Yes
Hola!
@@upvibecandle Listo! Muchísimas gracias !!!!
I see from your total coast video that a vessel made from cement all costs .72 cents. How does this compare & do you prefer using this over cement all?
For me it’s more cost effective to use Cement All. However I prefer Hydrocal which is featured in my Cement All alternatives video.
@@upvibecandle I watched that one also. I’ve watched several today 🤷♀️ As someone contemplating making candles, to lower the initial start up cost, it seems more prudent to use a substance that you can demold in 30 minutes vs 3 hours. I’m shocked by the price of some of these molds 😳
I wish you had a video on the different types of wax.
@@GreenWitch1 Great point. That video is one I will do down the line.

Thanks a lot will definitely try , anyway we don't get cement all in India .
Thanks 😊
You are very welcome!
Hi , why you add 105g of water?. I tried it works great but I thought 4 parts cement and one part water. Thank you
Hi. Great question. This is not Cement All which is 4:1 ratio. This is cement, plaster and sand. Does that make sense?
@@upvibecandle It does. But how you calculate the water ratio? I mean if I need to do for smaller or bigger mold.
@@talwinderkaur7723 The formula has changed since that video and I have another formula not using Cement All that I will come out with in a couple of weeks. However, for now, the formula is 1 part cement, 1 part sand, 2 parts plaster and 2 parts water. So if your mold takes 400 grams it's 1 part cement at 100 grams, 1 part sand at 100 grams, 2 parts plaster and 200 grams and 2 parts water at 200 grams. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much 🙏🙏
