    Not only did I get an in-depth explanation of articulating arm usage and what to look for in buying one, I learned I had the cold shoe tightening sequence backwards and the tip about tape on the cold shoe to protect the Speedlight contacts. As an avid user of Speedlight's, you'd think I would already know this stuff. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Appreciate the education.

    Just got 2 of the Manfrotto 224N and those 3/8 to 5/8 adapters., Realy love the gear of manfrotto real sturdy.
    I only removed the nut of the adapter, so it screws all the way in the Manfrotto arm.

    That looks like a great addition to anyone's kit. Maybe soon you can do a video about the clamps and adapters that attach the arm or stands to the gear.
    The only similar equipment I have experience with are the RAM mounts I use on my camera trap set up. They've worked well for me and have lots of options to customize them.

    one other tip seth, the 5/8" thread is what Mamiya, Hasselblad & Rollei use on their MF cameras, as well as most LF cameras, due to the more sturdy nature of the size, Also the head of a tripod uses this size, to afix to the center column.

    i have a load of those manfrotto bigs and smallrig ones for macro, also as many magic clamps, they are great for using without any stands at all.
    grip vids are always great to watch, you should do a vid on one off clamps that you maybe only used once, chances are it will give an idea to someone else, esp those of us that make our own grip stuff

    old school suggestion. in 1980s U S Army, officers and NCOs kept index cards with bullet points for tie available quick classes. it is the easiest way to make sure all essential points are covered without a script . when someone's life or limb can depend on not missing step in a class, they were an essential part of teaching. I still sometimes use them today for civilian work

    Really liking the new videos Seth!
    I'm familiar with the Matthews and Manfrotto arms from TV work, and this is a really great and simple to understand intro to them! Everyone ought to have at least one of these in their kit.
    In a future video, would you be up for demonstrating adapters for putting not just the light but also a modifier on the end? Just curious for some of the creative methods and tools that are out there that I haven't discovered yet.

    @9:37 Two lights, or one light and a reflector, on one stand is probably my biggest use for articulating arms. Even with the key light on axis, the stand is completely out of the way. I also carry a TT 7" arm to attach my Surface tablet to my tripod for tethering. Not that I personally have any use for it that I can think of, but mounting the camera by its hotshoe is a neat trick that I'm sure others will find useful.

    • @LastXwitness
      @LastXwitness  3 года назад +1
