Not only did I get an in-depth explanation of articulating arm usage and what to look for in buying one, I learned I had the cold shoe tightening sequence backwards and the tip about tape on the cold shoe to protect the Speedlight contacts. As an avid user of Speedlight's, you'd think I would already know this stuff. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Appreciate the education.
I can watch Seth geek out over grip for hours. Thanks!
its some of the funnest stuff for sure like a giant erector set for content creation lol
Helpful. Thx
The combination of you showing the arms, along with the links, is perfect, Seth! Thanks.
awesome thanks for watching mike!
This was definitely an eye opening video for stuff like this. This is one of those things you don't learn about from the bigger RUclips channels.
So I'm totally that dude that has mic mounted on one of those arms.
Second, the gaffer tape/electric tape over those metal cold shoes makes so much damn sense I'm kicking myself over here
its always simple oversights ! glad it was some help
Great content Seth. You and Dan are the best online educators! Thanks for all the detail in this video, I discovered some great new things in it.
You’re very welcome thanks so much for checking it out!
Best video on friction arms! Appreciate your honest no BS approach. 👌🏼
Thank you ! Glad it was worth a watch
Thanks Seth. This is such valuable advice.
Thanks for checking it out
Thanks, Seth! Always thinking outside the box for us.
thanks for watching!
Oldie but goodie Seth! I was using one from manfrotto yesterday and today your video turned up in the list so just like moth to a lightbulb I simply had to click it 😂 Always learn a ton from your videos and it’s great to see you ad-libbing and not scripted. Thanks man!
Appreciate you checking them out glad they are helpful
thanks for the great information. I just bought the Manfrotto one, and I was looking for the information. the cold shoe one is great!
Glad the vid helped ya out
I do love my articulating arms! The SmallRig arms are great for macro too!
Yes they are!
Thx for this video and all your other content.
Just got 2 of the Manfrotto 224N and those 3/8 to 5/8 adapters., Realy love the gear of manfrotto real sturdy.
I only removed the nut of the adapter, so it screws all the way in the Manfrotto arm.
feels more solid this way to my feeling :)
Great information! Thank you for the quick tip about the gaffer tape on the cold shoe. I didn't know about that. Thanks!!!
No problem!
This is what you get when real professionals talk... Thank you, sir, for sharing invaluable information! - Alex, Malaysia
Thank you for checking out my little channel glad it was worth while
My Matthew's arms have seen lots of use and abuse and going strong after 6+ years. You gave me a few new ideas I'll be trying out.
yea ive beaten the hell out of that arm forever lol aweseom if you do tag me in some stuff so i can see
Seth comes through again as usual! Keep up the great work Seth!
THANK YOU!
That looks like a great addition to anyone's kit. Maybe soon you can do a video about the clamps and adapters that attach the arm or stands to the gear.
The only similar equipment I have experience with are the RAM mounts I use on my camera trap set up. They've worked well for me and have lots of options to customize them.
nice
love it. so helpful. upping my game
EXTREMELY helpful. I was looking for this to work with or addition to your flashpoint clamp arm. Much appreciated...it will give me the flexibility I need. Thank you!!
I was thinking about getting one of them, but I was holding off because I didn't know how useful they were going to be. Now that I know, I'm going to have to look real hard.
yea its an investment do some research assess your needs youd be surprised how much you lean on them once you have them
The thing I never knew I needed! Hopefully these get back in stock soon.
for real!
Super interesting Seth. Thanks. I'm researching what I can find in the UK 🇬🇧
yea stock seems rough for right now
Seth, that was freaking awesome. Thanks so much.
I’ve been self educating myself for filmmaking for three years now, I’ve been hard pressed to find good info on grip. This was amazing, you have no idea how much it means to me😂 immediate subscribe and discord join🤟🏽
Welcome to my channel ;) play nice in the discord
The only problem with these arms is that it feels like you could never have enough because they’re so useful 😂
ill just keep snatching yours when youre not looking
That's what you use paint pens for, to put your name on your gear.
Total beast status with real world advice! You gave me tons of ideas to use with my Matthews infinity arm. 👊
Great video! I bought the Tether Tools arm on your advice awhile ago and it's been great.
thats awesome! tag me in some stuff so I can see
@@LastXwitness Will do going forward. (I'm not sure which photos in the archive relied on it.) But it will be awhile. I had rotator cuff surgery 12/31 on my right shoulder and I can't really use my right arm yet. It made me realize that cameras are essentially right-handed!
one other tip seth, the 5/8" thread is what Mamiya, Hasselblad & Rollei use on their MF cameras, as well as most LF cameras, due to the more sturdy nature of the size, Also the head of a tripod uses this size, to afix to the center column.
Great tip for the tape on the cold shoe
Yea it’s been helpful for me
Absolutely love the grip videos thank you so much
Thank you for the info on the Matthews Noga Arm.
This was really helpful, thanks Seth!
youre so welcome
Thanks Seth! Need to get a couple for sure.
if you do tag me in some stuff when you get/use em
Great video. Just got my arm and was so impressed. Just ordered the super clamp now.
Loved the video, especially the super clamp use case!
its def an ace up the sleeve type thing lol
i have a load of those manfrotto bigs and smallrig ones for macro, also as many magic clamps, they are great for using without any stands at all.
grip vids are always great to watch, you should do a vid on one off clamps that you maybe only used once, chances are it will give an idea to someone else, esp those of us that make our own grip stuff
This was a great video. I wanted to learn more about this after your Imaging class. Thanks for doing this.
old school suggestion. in 1980s U S Army, officers and NCOs kept index cards with bullet points for tie available quick classes. it is the easiest way to make sure all essential points are covered without a script . when someone's life or limb can depend on not missing step in a class, they were an essential part of teaching. I still sometimes use them today for civilian work
Excellent advice 👌
thanks !
Really liking the new videos Seth!
I'm familiar with the Matthews and Manfrotto arms from TV work, and this is a really great and simple to understand intro to them! Everyone ought to have at least one of these in their kit.
In a future video, would you be up for demonstrating adapters for putting not just the light but also a modifier on the end? Just curious for some of the creative methods and tools that are out there that I haven't discovered yet.
maybe well do that live sometime just remind me!
@@LastXwitness That'd be slick! I'll keep on ya about that!
I use mine all the time, I have the manfrotto Magic Arm. they are not cheap but versitile.
def an investment
Leave it to Seth… mad genius’s..great idea.
Appreciate it thank you!
Great video keep them coming.
lets do some together!
Seth, brother you are looking good man!
Invaluable!
🙏🫀
@9:37 Two lights, or one light and a reflector, on one stand is probably my biggest use for articulating arms. Even with the key light on axis, the stand is completely out of the way. I also carry a TT 7" arm to attach my Surface tablet to my tripod for tethering. Not that I personally have any use for it that I can think of, but mounting the camera by its hotshoe is a neat trick that I'm sure others will find useful.
youd be surprised its also great for macro or small table top stuff to get teh tripod out of the equation clamp to the table and just float around the subject
@@LastXwitness Table top stuff, whether for food photography or getting detail shots of wedding rings/etc, was the first things that came to mind. It's just stuff I don't really do though.
Seth, how many do you travel with in your kit?
Usually 3
Thanks for that Seth!!
thanks for watching!
Good stuff as always!
Appreciate that thank you so much
I bought my self a Manfrotto 244 today as an early birthday present.
Great coverage on how use a arm plus how flexible it is in the field or studio.. Good to have your insight on the product use and how well made it is. Thanks Seth
Great video, I picked up a few in different sizes by Manfrotto last year. Also, thanks for the tip on the gaffers tape on the cold shoe, something I never thought about. Have you tried the articulating arms with the Profoto OCF adaptor?
thanks yea actually its still fairly new but i did some live streams with them on arms did you see my Adorama profoto ocf adapter video? didnt use articulating arms but still ruclips.net/video/w04WAP4s51w/видео.html
@@LastXwitness yes I did. I was so wrapped up in the adaptor I did not pay attention if they were on articulating arms, I'll have to re-watch. BTW I bought two of the OCF adaptors for my A1s and love them. They really work great with the zoom reflector and super compact easy to get in tight spaces with a nano stand.
Thank You!
yessirrr!
NOGA Griffin? OK or junk?
Does anyone use the Impact 20” articulating arm?
Sadly, I only have 1 of these..... I really need to reassess my life :) (AustinisfortheBirds)
LOL better than none!
