I think of Inkubus Sukkubus as going in the same vein as old goth bands like All About Eve and Die Laughing. And bands like this make basic Gothic Metal of the of metal subculture make some sense to my goth subculture ears. I’ve heard from someone in LA close to it in the 90s of how actively and consciously Cleopatra began cultivating what we think of as Gothic Rock as a genre.
My parents gave me their old Music from the Succubus Club CD around when I was just dipping my toe into goth music + was planning a VTM playthrough with some online friends so it's one of my favorites. So it's nice seeing it get the spotlight here :)
Man, the succubus club was a great comp album. VTM bloodlines was my gateway into goth for sure lmao thats how i found this album and so many bands (BEFORE I discovered bauhaus and the ogs of goth music lol.) In the same vein, Tony Hawks Pro Skater was my gateway into punk and 90s hiphop. I guess i owe my whole identity to video games i played in my youth lmao. And they say video games are bad for you smh
I was legit playing Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow when the intro of Church of Madness started and thought, “hmmm, this sounds like Castlevania” SECONDS before you said it 💀
I have the self-titled album in my collection, "Wench" from 1999 which sounds like the artist in the Succubus Club compilation. The booklet says all songs written, performed, programed, and produced by Frances Byrne. Looks like she was based out of San Francisco. I'm sure Wench was recommended to me by a friend that knew I liked bands such as Faith and the Muse, This Ascension, and Dead Can Dance.
I always think of Chant when Wench comes up. I think the cassette was sent to me. Back in the day, it would get on Ethereal/Darkwave club playlists in California - where I am. Link in comment of Chant by Wench
This is the earliest I've ever been! I'm usually about a month behind! I love this channel!

I love hearing about how video games change people's lives
VtM has influenced my entire life so much, and so did the music. Thanks for sharing your nostalgic thoughts on it! Cheers from Ukraine. 🦇
