Coming back to this, a remix I used to listen to in middle school, I'm amazed at just how good it actually is. Typically to me a good mashup would be two songs which fit together well and don't lose anything in the transition. But this may just be the best mashup I've ever heard for the simple reason that I genuinely believe it is greater than the sum of its parts; this bizarre cross-genre mashup is an even better song than either of the two already amazing songs it combines, and it just leaves me in shock.

Everything from 0:40 to 1:39, 2:23 to 2:38, and 3:04 to 3:07, and of course 0:05 to 0:06, is melodies from Super Mario World, NOT Levels. That's 78 seconds of a 182 second song, or 42%. The time is split almost perfectly evenly between the two songs, so it's definitely not just a Levels rebuild. Not that saying "a Levels rebuild with SMW sounds *and music*" is really meaningfully different from a mashup in any way.

I took out my headphones, looked it up, and listened to it while walking home. The nostalgia that I got from listening to this again after so long was insanely powerful and I almost cried. 2012 was probably the best year of my life and I wish I could go back to it.
