Hi, I'm glad you like Eivör, What not everyone knows is that she was in a music school in Iceland for several years and therefore well connected to Icelandic music and culture. I'd love to hear what you think about,,,,,Heyr Himna smiður. Heyr, himna smiður is a hymn by Kolbein Tumason, most often considered to have been written just before the Battle of Víðines in the fall of 1208, where Kolbeinn fell, but it may be that it was written somewhat earlier. This is the oldest preserved hymn in the Nordic countries and is now most often sung to a song composed by composer Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson. There is also a song by Sigvalda Kaldalón that is sung to this text. The hymn has three stanzas, is still in the Icelandic hymn book and is often sung, not least at funerals. Kolbeinn was an opponent of Bishop Guðmund Arason and his clergy, but at the same time he was a great believer and seems to have been well educated. The text of the hymn is solemn and poetic, but at the same time relatively easy to understand by modern people, even though individual words and similes need explanation. Eivör Pálsdóttir sing Heyr himna smiður Sings here at Christmas concerts. I kvow you like it!! ruclips.net/video/EXUbSmbs_lg/видео.html
