"Rheia" is the groundbreaking album from Belgium's Oathbreaker. Engineered, mixed, and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Loma Prieta), "Rheia" is a true game changer for the genre. Blurring lines and dissolving the boundaries of heavy music as we know it today.
Opener "10:56" begins with a haunting guitar riff and Caro Tanghe's beautifully sung vocal before abruptly soaring to new heights with "Second Son of R". Its blasts of melody mutate into a blackened buzz while waves of tempo changes pound down with intense emotional weight. "Being Able To Feel Nothing" then rolls in like a storm. Chaotically breaking apart to reveal the eye before churning once again. "Stay Here / Accroche-Moi" is an otherworldly reverb drenched acoustic number that leads to "Needles In Your Skin". A deeply personal song that showcases the artistic strength vulnerability brings. It's hard to believe that this is just the half way point of this post everything masterwork. "Immortals" then unfurls as a goose bump inducing monster. This leads to the ambitious "I'm Sorry, This Is", "Where I Live", and "Where I Leave”; A musical triptych that needs to be heard to be believed. All of it comes to an end with mesmerizing closer "Begeerte". Ethereally materializing before vanishing into the beautiful unknown. - Видеоклипы
They need to make music again. I cannot find appart from Deafheaven's music, a sound as heavily melodic and such a thunder at the same time. It is very hard to explain but the rawness and tightness of this band is just unreal to me.
You might wanna check Moonsorrow
Rotting Christ. They sound nothing like this, but they're amazing and I'd use exactly those words to describe em. There's a thoughtful, introspective, depressive quality to bands like Oathbreaker, Rotting Christ don't have that, but they're melodic, thunderous, raw and tight. It's much more life affirming than melancholy though, which adds a different kind of sexy to proceedings. 'Kata Ton Daimona Atoy' or 'Aeoleo' albums. For a post sound I'd suggest Rolo Tomassi. 'Time will die and live will bury it' is a good album to start with. Actually, I can't recommend enough 'Endless Twilight of Codependent Love' by Solstafir. And their previous album Berg-something (its Icelandic and I'm not looking up how to spell it) has a similar haunted feel to this song. Don't go to far back into their back catalogue though. Slightly different sound...
@@matthewgodding777 Thank you. I know and appreciate Rotting Christ and Rolo Tmassi. I will definitely chech Solsatafir, although the bands name sounds very familiar.
I find also similar feelings in the atmospheric Black Metal / post rock scene. Bands like Ellende, Waldgefluster, Karg, Harakiri in the sky, Grima... Bands worth checking out.
@@laurentcoukan4617 Karg's a new one for me. Ellende are alright. Waldgefluster are ok. Harakiri just don't work for me. Post- black doesn't really work for me tbh. I prefer post-hardcore type bands. Or Isis/Neurosis for post-'metal' (both bands are hardcore and every post metal band ever has been absurdly derivative of them)
So I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by Oathbreaker. They're pretty good.
Normally for black metal I'd prefer to be in the dissonant/psychedelic or war/raw wheelhouses. Give me Deathspell Omega and Conqueror every day of the week
Definitely need to check out Brutus. Particularly the song war lead by a great female lead
this whole album makes me want to start screaming along it public. quickly moving up to my top 5 albums.
.
Dorothea Baretta
This has replaced Chelsea Wolfe as my go to female lead band, I didn't think it was possible, especially with Chelsea 's new album (which is also great).
makes me want to puke in public.
3:25 to the end.. it hits different
"You ate my heart out, I am stone"
Relatable
This album is eternal.
When all of us turn to dust
Will you teach me how to love
We'll no longer whisper the tongue of lies
You ate my heart out, I am stone
Your damaged skin on top of mine
I buried the mind that clenched too tight
Teach me the comfort of denial
You ate my heart out, I am stone
I've grown indifferent to desire
Stop running through my eyes
Tie me up and feed me lies
You ate my heart out, I am stone
The world drained me of kindness
Drift words can only mean as much
I was nothing, I didn't matter
You ate my heart out, I am stone
I'm hungry, but I'm losing taste
Let me turn my back on home
Seeking love without boundaries
You ate my heart out, I am stone
I blame the barren sky
For drying out my filthy mouth
Who will decide if I care enough
You ate my heart out, I am stone
This Is Art.
Its funny, i read alot of comments who praised the outro, and i was like: Its not that special. Like i heard alot of better outros. Then i got my heart broken which took me months to get over, then this outro/song made so much sense it made me cry. Funny how things can change

Her screams are the most epic vocals to pierce my ears... and this album has had my attention since it was released
This is my favorite song on Rheia. I think it best captures the expression of their influences and emotions; their goal of writing music for themselves.
For me they are some sort unique sounding. I hear a real dedication of making/ideas execution. They do what they do and I roll with it.
PREDATORY VOID is the only thing that even slightly fills the void left by this band.
sorry but NO
@@liguriainmetal ALRIGHT
The video for this song embodies something that is very rare, not just in this relative genre but in music everywhere. There's a sort of "heart" and sense of purpose, a message, behind it that is just hard to come by. The video exemplifies itself as an ambiguous work of art that leaves room for the viewer to apply it to his/her/their life in a way that I just don't think most of us get to experience often. I don't know, I like to think of myself as an honest guy, and, so, full disclosure, I'm a bit drunk; but, having seen this band live and having talked to some of the members of it (the vocalist), I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is something special. It sent chills down my spine that I have only felt in a few other choice circumstances.
Respect to these people. Respect to this music.
Keep it up, keep touring. I will be there when you come to my city.
I can't fucking stop repeating this song
feel with you
shame
best album of 2016 for me
This song is so devastating and depressive. I think this could resonate with anyone who has gone through a nasty end with their significant other.
Qué brutalidad de video, definitivamente Oathbreaker es y será una de mis bandas favoritas.
Incredible. Just absolutely heartbreaking in the best possible way.
That outro gives me chills.
The last album the group masterpiece
For the first time to include it, I could not stand to listen to the end
It's incredible
I have not heard nothing like this in the past two years
Something very soothing about this song. Even the abrasiveness of the chorus makes the my energy flow very smooth, with honesty and some vulnerability.
After 6.05 it's as dark as it can go. I love this last part!!!
Im really digging this band as of lately. I have listened to them here and there throughout the years and havnt checked them out in a while. They have really come into their own with this album
Phenomenal! Proud to be Belgian
God damn this is good.
Best metal video ever. The concept and that final shot are incredible. No one will ever make something like this.
The Oathbreaker Reigns.
Love the piano at the end. Great song and video.
yeah that chords really great!
I can't stop to listen this...
Loving this so much!
I really wish they made new music
Very good song, exceptional singer.
Blackened Post-Hardcore. First band of it's kind. I say ,let it be a genre. ;-) I mean , you can smoke listening to this stuff.
Come back in Bucharest as soon as you can !
sounds like something you could order at a cafe, "Hello, I'd like a Blackened Post-Hardcore...with milk"
indeed ;-)
Pheralg you definitly don't add any fucking milk to this masterpiece
De Post-Hardcore no tiene nada.
Suena más bien cómo una mezcla entre Bjork, Deftones y Gorgoroth.
You are still the best. I wish you to return every day. Ease me was something totally different but the contrast was only huge compared to your older songs, it was fit to Rheia. Your power and soul are different and unique than the others, you are real and painful. Please give us a sign
🖤
Oathbreaker is my number one.
Mesmerizing.
This song is even better when you listen to it after 'Needles in Your Skin', the song that precedes it and abruptly transitions into it on 'Rheia'.
Yes. I can't listen to one without the other.
@@rthavi4166 you answered yourself mate
So fucking excellent.
is it me or she was sort of singing "Stay here" song at 4:13-6:00? maybe not the same lyrics but the tone reflects it a lot.
Maravilhoso!!!!
great song
The beginning gives me an AIC vibe.
Personally, it gave me a Deftones vibe
Awesome *in love with this song*
like what moving pictures did for rush. rheia is the album that oathbreaker found their sound in
awesome
Amazing!!
Fácil um dos meus 3 albuns favoritos desse ano!
Best album in 2016 in Belgium, all styles combined.

⚠️ PHOTOSENSITIVITY/EPILEPSY SEIZURES
Just a friendly warning.
Rip eyes. Was watching this ik the dark.
💣
Would love to hear a rendition of this on The Voice.
Ngeraaaaaaiii iih
Je suis amoureux de cette chanson...
This is soo damn good
At 6:06 this vision of bodies forming 'mountains' are creepy to me
Legs: The Musical
Last section a nod to the end of Luna by Deafheaven? Very similar bands in general, with Oathbreaker leaning more on the post-hardcore side of things.
chulada
....woah
Just discovered them and listened to the new album! Great stuff! Does anyone recommend anything from previous albums they've put out?
Quantum Collapse
Everything.
Maelstrom has a wittle surprise at the end and the album art is just hair... so much haaair
This a fucking wicked great song. I love it. YAAAAAAA!!

its like a dark deftones
this band couldnt be more appropriate
Vocals cut through like a knife
reminds me of Jex Thoth, great sound. I would accept this videoclip much more EXTREME
sounds good but I prefer their earlier stuff, " tastes are like colours"
is that a song from them? I can't seem to find anything with those words related to them
BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
nobody knows what it means... but it's provocative!
❤️🩹🔥💯
A very leggy video.
Sudden footfetish
This is depressing as fuck but so good.
I am stone.
:*
everyone stopped watching it because of feels
I‘m the only person who doesn't listen to music that I don't like in this over convenient world lol
Half of this album is dope af, this song included. The other half? eeehhh..
Yeah, that's how I feel. The first half (with this song) is just so damn strong. Then it kinda loses focus and I don't find the songs memorable. Still, I have to say it's the album of the year for me so far.
Have you checked out Sumac's What One Becomes? It's unreal.
boooo. outro is hella emotional if u ask me
I was about to post a comment with this exact sentiment. I find this happens with so many albums of this genre and it's so sad to me
At first it seems so, but for me this album is a grower. clearly this song and Needles In Your Skin are standouts.
They really should have ended the album on this track. The last 3 or 4 just weigh it down into ummokay this isnt going anywhere land.
Lol
shrek tical Not much to laugh about. Rheia could have been an absolute classic
Totally agree. The direction they took with the second half of the album has totally crippled this album in my eyes.
All the elements for a masterpiece are there, but they just lost steam halfway it seems.
Where I live tho, give it another listen ^^
Viktor Blake I left that out because I don't think that would be a good ending. Maybe if they cut the beginning and then ended on something completely different that is not Begeerte or Where I Leave
Amazing!
