❤Great video and information. I reduced my PD/volume from 12 watts to 5 watts and I found the range of tones more to my liking. Less clean headroom but better break up tone with regards the power tube. Of course better for low volume recording. Bed room sweetness. Love this tone stack configuration.❤
Fantastic kits, my first build was their N5X kit, very similar but has a VVR circuit added. I learnt so much from building this. Keep up the great work🤓
I built their 18w Plexi with power scaling several years ago. It was a very nice, well documented kit. Unfortunately, it appears they are out of business indefinitely. Chris, what are your thoughts on the various methods of reducing volume without sacrificing tone?
Love the channel, would be interested to always hear a ‘why’ explanation when you say something is not great or wrong (I.e. EL84 grid stopper). Cheers from Canada!
Hi Chris, I've seen you always checking the Voltage on your mains, always seeking 240v (+/-). EU has 230v, as you might already know. What would happen or what are the consequences if you get an UK Marshall (just an example) and plug it into any (EU) 230v socket?
I'd want two channels, four inputs, and a presence control if I was going to buy a Marshall type amp. Also if I was going to buy a Marshall type amp I would want the preamp to be something like one of the classic Marshall amps not just a generic tube circuit.
Hey Chris, At 9:10 in you looked at the secondary I though I saw it was wired for 16ohm, no? (orange 0 and brown 16ohm?) I know you took your first readings and looked a the wattage chart for 8ohm, no? (I'm probably wrong. It was probably 8ohm secondary wired.)
I'm aware you were limited to do a two-hour's job, but as you mentioned your ideas on mods at the end, I have some thoughts on additional improvements, such as increasing those ridiculous 1uF bypass cathode caps to at least 10 or 15uF to let more bass come through. Also, I don't like the control grids of both the gain stage and output valve being fed directly from the wiper of the pots. With the pot itself working as grid leak resistor, in case of a faulty contact of the wiper on the resistance track, the grids have no defined potential and the valves would "run away". Another thing to point out, when determining the dissipation of the EL84, you based it on the cathode current, so your figure includes the screen current; guessing this to be around 4mA, what is left on the plate is about 0.9 watts less than your result, so there is a bit left to bias that valve hotter (ideally getting the plate voltage up by reducing the first smoothing resistor and increasing the one for the screen supply), to get the output power up.
OMG this looks like a community of experts and I have a question. I own an EHX Key 9 pedal that no longer outputs the fx signal. The dry signal still works but not the money maker. One day it was OK and the next it wasn't. Is this repairable or would I be just throwing good money after bad? If it is repairable who does this work? That looks like two questions to me but my knowledge of maths is second to my knowledge of electronics.
Contact EHX. Their customer service is excellent and they are known to fix just about anything, under warranty or not. If they charge anything at all, it's less than the bench fee of any reputable tech.
One thing I always notice about YT techs - They never mention output jacks, no protection resistor present if amps plugged in with no load...Am I missing something, happy to be corrected? This amp had no warning sign on back panel...New owner who doesnt know, may just turn it on and blow the OT transformer...Hope he reads this!
@@RiperSnifle YT tech or a tech on YT is very nuance, It never entered my mind how it would be percieved, but now you mention it maybe you have a point, maybe I should have said a `tech on YT`...But this warrants a reply to explain myself.. I built the wf55 and se5a. Ampmaker provided extensive build documentation.

I loved ampmaker. So sad they’ve closed indefinitely. I built a wf55 kit and it’s great.
You did all that I could expect if I were the customer. Very good job. Wish all repairs were as good as yours. A UK PenZioner

Put a variable resistor pot on the phase inverter cathode resistors🤠🇬🇧 you welcom
Was also wondering what mods you would do if it was your amp? I love the loop demos too - the most useful display of an amp’s range I’ve heard.

Hey Chris, great vid, thanks. 9:05 I like that shield, very clever.
Real shame Ampmaker has closed 😢. Terrific kits!
Hi! How many millivolt did you set on the signal generator? Thank!
Lovely little amp, sounds good too.
Great kits!! Great video. Took me right back
I have one of these I purchased already built. Great little amp.!

Nice calculator
Hey Chris, check them silver micas. They look like the generic ones from about 10 to 15 years ago that tend to fail.
Gteat stuff Chris. Question : why on a 5 watt kit amp, go to the bother of putting a standby switch on it. Not really needed surely?
Posted a link for this to Barry, hope you don’t mind!

@@Dr_Satan Thank you, will do.
Let's build a fancy Marshall plexi style cab for 5w circuit board?

I wouldn't call him a "YT" tech lol ... he's an amp builder, surely that's a bit insulting

The Amp Maker website states the business is "closed ... for an indefinite period".

Funny how there are no sound samples
a single-ended Marshal, huh...give me a break
