Thank you Sustainable Living for your video showing us how to set up our cardboard brooder! Your method worked great for us. And I’m really glad we are going with your fluffed dirt suggestion. It is working great. Thanks again!

Hi Etley B! Very good question. And congrats with getting started with chickens.
One thing I didn't mention is that you may want to consider getting your new chicks started with some electrolytes (in addition to fresh water). Here is what we ended up doing: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K27VJ8C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I would also get a bigger box. That way there are cooler and warmer areas for the chicks to pick the optimal temperature for them. Also, the poults grew out of the box pretty quickly (probably about a couple weeks). We ended up using a plastic kids swimming pool and then lining the interior with tall cardboard boxes (I was surprised at how high those little chicks could get up).
Finally, be aware of "pasty bum." Basically, you might need to clean your new chicks bum to start off. Here is a good video about that (and other things): ruclips.net/video/UGFV37esdGg/видео.html
Good luck and thanks for watching!
