BMD is the future and is the only one blazing trails in this arena. They’re following the Apple model of optimizing the entire ecosystem. I mean, look at how BRAW works. Only Apple would have taken a chance on something like that decades ago (and they did a la ProRes). So long as Apple continues on owning the entire ecosystem down to the CPU chipset their focus won’t be the pro. But for BMD, I wouldn’t be surprised that in the distant future they turn into a complete computer company making visual content making a pleasure for the pro. At one point, we didn’t think Apple would be a phone company or a watch company.
@@elephantgrass631 Yes, I couldn't agree more. BMRAW is the a great example. Our business includes a big chunk of live production and BM already has a the dominant share of wallet. If they made their Video Assist monitors BMRAW compatible with our Sony FS5/FX6 cameras we'd likely migrate out of our established Apple/Atomos workflow completely.
Hey Steve, thanks for the great run-through, much appreciated. Love the Speed Editor and how compact it is. Maybe that’s changed since you made the video, but there’s no need to hold down the Cam button when Live Overwrite is active. You just tap on the CAM button, and then start painting with the search dial. Just pause and start playback to stop the “painting.” Small, but makes a difference.

I love how we’ve gone full circle back to tape-to-tape style controllers. Now if they could only add the sound of the Sony decks hunting for the frame, that would be epic. Happy New Year! Great content.
I got my speed editor. It looks awesome. I'm now waiting for the covid lockdown in my area to be over so I can go out and shoot live bands and start to use it.
@@brianmi40 I'm still waiting for a training DVD about how to use a Steadicam back in November. It's still not in stock and B&H doesn't know when I'll get the DVD. I guess everything is on backorder now. Probably because of covid.
Wow, I've been stressing about switching to Davinci from FCPX (Bought the speed editor and studio 17 and will be here soon). But this is making me feel more at ease. That is such a killer way to just paint the cam on there.... That's almost "cheating" haha. Great video!
Thanks for sharing! Btw, I can't sync when I have multiple clips for camera 1 and multiple for camera 2. I have timecode for both but minor adjustments are needed. With the traditional multicam, I can make it detect the camera using the Reel Name. However, using the sync bin, it always put all the footage to camera 1 only. How do I sync multiple clips detecting the same camera?
I have the speed editor and filmed some footage today for a music video. I have the angles synced to external audio and the sync bin worked great, but how do I paint on footage from an angle higher than 9? In my case, I have 10 video angles and a single stereo audio track that will be used in the final.
Do you have cut page advice for users who may have a single camera angle, but also external audio, and the speed editor? I can sync the audio and video using the sync clips method in the cut page, but how do you then permanently assign the external audio without going to the edit page? The end goal is to quickly cut up a long video while keeping the external audio in sync the entire time
Hey, thanks for the great demonstration! From what I'e seen here, multi-cam editing works completely different from what I was used to in the edit-tab - is there also a way to simply do a "live edit" on multiple camera angles, where you see all angles playing back (like in the sync bin view) and just hit buttons 1 to 9 to cut to the corresponding angle? I would prefer that a lot over a layered workflow, at least in the use cases I currently deal with...
If you want to perform traditional multicam edits, it must be done in the Edit Page. But the controller does not work for that style of cutting. IMHO, I do think it was a missed opportunity to not allow the camera keys to cut on the fly as all the angles play back.
HI, using DSLRs I don't have correct TCs in my files. That's why I create a multicam clips and cut them with my mouse in the edit page and only select the angle I'd like to have. I wish to do that with just pressing button 1,2 instead clicking and selecting the desired angle each time. How would you handle clips that don't have professional timecodes and use my multicam clips?
The Speed Editor is only designed to work in the Cut Page with the Camera keys (1-9). If you need to cut multicam in the edit page, use the number keys on your standard keyboard and you'll be able to cut without clicking with your mouse.
The Cut page multicam - still can't figure out how to sync the clips in the sync bin, then go back and add a clip or edit any of the clips that didn't get synced perfectly the first try. I found that after doing a bunch, I found one clip that was about 3 frames out of sync. At that point couldn't figure out any obvious way to re-open the setup for the sync bin and fix it.
To Start I give every camera angle a apropiete number : in the Media tab - meta data - camera #. Then I Set in points on every Clip as a reference point to sync. For example to the Sound of the clapper Board or a certain Audio cue on a music Video thats Audible in the scratch Audio of every camera angle. Then I sync in the sync bin to the in points. In the Media Pool there is now a Media synced File that can be deleted if the process needs adjustment
@@krischanrudolph6005 Do all of the above - my comment was on adding clips after you have created the sync bin and are in the editing process. I can't seem to find a way to edit the process after. Deleting the file created for the sync bin - you can then create a new sync bin - but you can't then apply it to the edit that is in process- so it means starting over again. I think BMD should make it so you can re-open the syncing window on a previous Sync bin file and edit it or add new footage. Anytime a process is a closed process, for me I don't use it. We can't be starting over on projects because processed are close ended.
hi! Is there the possibility to use the cam buttons on speed editor as LIVE MIXER VIDEO, as you can do with regular 1 2 3 4 5 and so on number buttons on classic keyboard on multicam compound clip in edit page? This could be really interesting when you have to do a "boring" concert or conference multicam edit.. Thanks!!
No. The issue is with how the cut page works. It's not a true "live cut" paradigm. The buttons really need to work in the Edit Page with multicam clips. Until it does, I find how it works very constraining.

@@mdturnerinoz There are zero solutions for FCP. Take a look at the forums at one of the biggest FCP user groups online fcp.co and you’ll see everyone complaining about how there isn’t a solution.
