I remember hearing The Dickies in the late 70s on KROQ and I loved their sense of humor. Saw them open for The Ramones at the Santa Monica Civic

The Dickies are one of the coolest LA punk rock bands EVER!!! Yes, there was X and the Weirdos and The Controllers and The Stains, The Germs, but the Dickies were the ones who opened up for the Ramones every year at the Hollywood Palladium. They were my first real punk rock concert. I remember losing one of my Vans tennis shoes at the gig and having to look for it after the concert. It's a total blurr, but I do remember it was so fucking cool! I was only 13 years old and I fucking loved it! The Dickies are AWESOME!

Also, I believe that there’s been, for a long time, in Melbourne, a band called “Fred Zeppelin” who only do Led Zeppelin covers!! Growing up in Dubai in the 90's, I found a bootleg of live punk songs on this cassette & lo & behold, there was my first exposure to the Dickies through this song!
Then in 05/06 working at this club in Modesto, Ca, I got to see their stellar performance of this track. Best moment of my life!!! Lol

The Dickies were very popular in the UK back in the day John Peel loved them ...latterly they progressed away from covers & writing their own material always fast & with good lyrics looking forward to seeing them next month on their UK tour a pure fun band...for those who know Manny Moe & Jack is an absolute classic 😊

I remember when the original was a hit, always loved it, I'm from that generation. I remember when this came out, loved it, too, because it retains the dark, haunting beauty of the original, while replacing the grandeur with manic frenzy. Works for me.

The Dickies did/do lots and lots of covers. You can always tell when it’s just a piss-take or an actual homage/tribute. Not only does this fall into the latter category, but I would say without question that it’s their best cover of all, and one of the greatest covers ever, by any band. This is a bonafide hall o’ famer. It still sounds just as great and fresh today in 2024 as it did way back in 1979.

My first exposure to this cover of Nights In White Satin? I used to work late nights in a country radio station in Texas in the 80's. One night I got really bored and started rooting around in their backroom archives of old 45's. That's when I discovered this gem by the Dickies. In a small town country station in Texas. LOL!

We think it's a classic and we want to do it in Dickies style'. It's and homage more than anything. The humour in the band came from their own songs. I love this band.

    Never reaching the end
    Letters I've written him
    Never meaning to send
    Beauty I've always missed
    With these eyes before
    Just what the truth is
    I can't say anymore
'cause I love you yes I love you...
    Gazing at people
    Some hand in hand
    Just what I'm going through
    They can't understand
    Some try to tell me
    Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be
