My friends know that I am wearing a wig because of my cancer treatment. No one else notices. I get questions from the more observant in zoom meetings when my hair color changes on a daily basis. I am very candid. I love the opportunity to change it.
Thank you Amanda. I went out in public wearing my first 'proper' wig today, and I'm so proud of myself. Nobody stared at me, or noticed, and yes like you said, nobody cared. Your videos are really helping me bless you xx
Thank you for being an ambassador of wig positivity! I think the idea is similar to that when women (and people in general) prioritized presenting themselves well in public -- not necessarily for personal vanity, but as a courtesy to the rest of the world when you're well groomed, pleasing to look at and you radiate confidence. You're bringing joy and beauty to the world while you're showing love for yourself. I realized my receding hairline and attempts to conceal it were more distracting and pity-causing than just having great (alternate) hair.
Your last sentence is the main reason I'm going o start wearing wigs. And I don't want to use medication for the rest of my life to get that hair back.
I started wearing wigs about seven years ago because I experienced hair loss during hormone treatments. It took a little time to get used to wearing them. Now my hormones are stabilized and my hair loss has stopped. I wear wigs now because I honestly hate fussing with my hair. I like the fact that I can plop on a wig and look great. And I can change my look on a whim and I’m very open about the fact that I’m wearing a wig. I don’t really care whether people know it or not. I honestly like to surprise people with a new look. When people I ask about my new hair color or how my hair grew over night I get a kick out of it. One other thing, I wish I had known about your channel when I first started wearing them because I have made some VERY bad wig choices. Thanks for your openness.
I looooove wigs and just recently came out to coworkers and friends and it’s so great! I look back and old pictures of myself and my hair was always thin and pulled back in a pony tail. Sad. Now I can have the hair I always wanted, and can go from a bob to a long way mane in a matter of minutes ❤ so fun! Wish they weren’t so expensive though and lasted longer. The big brands need to spend more time on that, I feel like cap construction options are there but when it comes to fibers it’s still not great.
These things are all so true and so many of us need to hear it. I really appreciate what you said about wearing the styles that make you feel good and not worrying about others think you should wear. ❤
I have worn wigs for 40 years due to alopecia . My experience is based on two things if you are with the same people each day and you change your style and colour each day it is obvious you are wearing a wig. If you have several sister styles that look alike it is less obvious you are wearing a wig. This year I have been wearing different styles and colours so now my friends all know I wear a wig. It depends on your comfort zone wearing a wig.
Yes! I have been wearing toppers in my natural light brown/dark blonde color since losing too much hair 4 years ago. Some are wavy like my natural hair, some are straight. All are thicker and shinier and better looking than my natural hair EVER was, and they enhance my appearance enormously. But now I am considering branching out into wigs - and into wigs of different colors in the brown/dark blonde/reddish/gray range, and when I do that everyone will know I am wearing them. I am working on not caring at all, because I want to do it!!
Oh my goodness Amanda you don’t know how much I needed to watch this I’m going through chemo and finding the hair loss very difficult . Waiting for my wig delivery and you’ve made me look forward to it not dread it . Thank you you’re an angel x
I love Hollie. I just bought my first wig, it's a cheap one but it's a start. Im excited to try this new path in my life. I get to have new hair whenever I want instead of having to worry about coloring damage or growth.
I started wearing wigs just this year. I feel like speeding on this thing hahaha so much so that now I put my wigs on in front of others 😮 that's right... I swim every other day at 6 am, no chance to go back home to get ready for my day so I get ready there and since I had decided to wear my wigs more often and not just on special occasions, well, I have to put in on in the dressing room, in front of other women. First I was nervous, but on the second day (on the first day, kind of hide to put the wig on) everyone who saw me was amazed and kept on complimenting me, and asking me questions about my wig. It was really nice and reassuring!!
Thank you so much for this!! I am coming up on my one year helper hair anniversary and I have gone from being so self conscious to not really caring who knows. Wearing helper hair is fun and makes me happy…just like you said 😊
My friend, who is undergoing chemo, came to pick me up wearing a wig for the first time, but, because she didn't mention it, I pretended I didn't notice because I wanted her to feel that it looked natural, even though it was a bit on the side of what we would possibly call "wiggy." My feeling was that she picked it out because she liked it, even if it wouldn't have been my personal choice for her. I think you're so right that people should wear what makes THEM feel good about themselves, and we need to get away from the idea that WE know better or MUST share our thoughts about a wig. Just let people do what makes them feel better about themselves and keep any negative commentary to ourselves unless specifically asked for an honest assessment, and, even then, always strive to be kind!!
You are so amazing, Amanda - Yes, I say that all of time - but I really think you need to hear that all of the time! I am not anywhere close to having a positive outlook with my wig journey - it is different for everyone. For me - I honestly had such beautiful hair until I was around 19 or 20 - hard to remember sometime. But, I can actually remember the day, where I was and who told me (it was my hairdresser) - she noticed my hair loss, for me it was at the very front of my hairline (started to get very thin and sparse). I would hide it with back combing (probably why I don't mind permatease, lol) - and using hot rollers to give my hair the appearance of volume. I used to have long hair, but it started to break and it became quite noticeable - so I had to cut it to shoulder length. There will have to be a part 2 ....
omgosh! all of your pop ups "Monica dancing" crack me up! Is Music - Ellen Willie fit small? It is such a nice piece - love the layers and that color!!!! I really can't wear those colors, I am very pale - almost "ghost" color, lol. Celeste is so pretty as well - I bet that would be a wonderful style to use for updos and pony tails. The long layers are very soft looking - I enjoyed the live this afternoon (I was exhausted for you afterwards though - like firing through how many wigs? lol). I grew up in the Farrah Fawcett era - having Charlie Angels hair was everything - I did have the Farrah Fawcett hair all through Junior High and High School (seriously you should see my Grad photo, lol omgosh - makes me laugh everytime). I grew up thinking that wigs were for "older" ladies and for Halloween - that's it! Thanks for doing this video and the live today - wholy moly give your voice a break, lol. ❤❤❤
Hollie is so adorable - and I never thought I would want anything with waves or curls, but I really like the way Hollie's natural wave falls - so incredibly cute. I am a die hard brunette - I have my favourite brunette colors but surprise to you I was a platinum blonde girl after high school (big fan of Debbie Harry/Blondie) and I had hair like hers and I kept it like that until I was into my late 40s - and then I just let my hair go back to the beautiful ash brown color that I was born with. Whew! long story, lol .... Part 3 coming
❤❤indeed, i start wear wigs after 1year of struggling with hair loss (genetisc/menopause)...but hey even in my teen age years i never had such compliments about my hair. 😅😅😅 And becase i keep buying all different styles and colors i have to tell I am.on wigs ...😂 some of my friends with awsome hair, start buy wigs now because of me...its more an accesory, like hair extensions ....😂😂 ❤
Love this video! I have several wigs but have not used them outside yet. I also wonder if you can explain how to use them during summer time? It feels very hot. Any ideas?
They all look great on you which is more or less a given, however I really like Celeste but only to the length where it hits your shoulders, almost tempted to buy it and have it cut to that length, not that it’s not nice long but I’m too old to be sporting such beautiful long hair to be believable, xx
Amanda, you are so beautiful, wig or no wig. I have worn wigs for years and my Kristi by Jon Renau is my fave. My question: my wig band always rides up on my scalp. I have a very small head. What can I do to prevent this?
I just wish it wasn't such an expensive habit... it's thousands of dollars to have a wig collection like you do! Everyone would do it if they could I'm sure... and they just don't seem to last that long it's a little disappointing but i get it the wig makers are trying to make money if they lasted forever we wouldn't need to keep buying. They really do make me feel great i just can't justify spending that much for something disposable... it's a shame. I see all these you tubers have these extensive wig collections and I'm jealous!! In these hard times i need to pinch pennies! You look beautiful in every one of them!!
Dear me them wigs are amazing 🎉 I would love to have the courage to wear a wig I just want a change as I’m leaving my hair to go grey I am fed up with dying my hair. Does having courage sound stupid ? I really need to go and find a wig like yours. Xxx
