The Lincoln in the '60's were the most stylish automobile on the road. Even the hardened GM and Chrysler owners could not deny the Lincoln was a beautiful car.

God, I miss my '67 two door...celery green, green leather interior...best car I ever had. As for gas mileage, I bought that car in Chehalis, WA, drove it for three days back to Chicago (2300 miles), and with 94K miles on it, the ol' girl never burned a drop of oil, and I averaged almost 15 mpg on the highway, which is better than most full sized SUV's these days. If I could find that car again, I'd buy it up in a heartbeat...

Oy. I LOVE the design of those cars. That was by far the best era for Lincoln ever. Timeless beauty, just stunning.
I've really been a Caddy guy since I was a kid. My grandpa drove a Caddy, my dad sold GM cars. But this is the only Lincoln that really outshines most of the great things GM sold in the past. It's just THAT pretty.

I would so love to have one of those cars. I had a '62 Connie a long time ago. I miss that car. I'd give almost anything for another 1960's Lincoln.

I loved this Continental. We had a sedan and a convertible sedan. I remember a print ad shot in LA with the convertible parked on a cliff overlooking the whole of LA. It had all four doors open and Rosalind Russell standing in the center.

Those '60s era Lincolns are beautiful. Especially with a shiny black paint job on it.
I saw one of these at the car show this summer, and HOLY CRAP, You really have to see the car in person to really appreciate it. This video doesn't do it justice.

  • @scdevon

This body style is such a cult classic now.
Imagine if they brought the body style back with all new stuff in it and an interior that wasn't all grey plastic and fake plastic wood grain?
It would be great to see chrome bumpers make a comeback (I guess they're still legal with the DOT).

That car rides like a high end rolls or Mercedes and quieter too.. Fact ford tested it against every brand of luxury cars and it was smoother and faster. The 462 was a monster of tq and you would be safe unibody or not. I drove one of these and I couldn't believe the power controls with climate control system that was perfect.. Grade A car of its era and beyond..

Cool commercial from the cold war era. Bigger, heavier, wider, longer no wimpy cars like today. Cadillac and Lincoln were on top of the luxury car world during the 50,s and 60,s.

If I had to own a 60,s imperial it would be the 1967, 1968 years. Apparently Imperials were banned from demolition derbies during that era because of their strong frame design, which creating an unfair advantage.

The temperature controls were the same design as the radio controls-they complimented each other. The A/C heat control was on the left of the steeling wheel w/the radio on the right. This ad must have been a dealer film. 8 minutes for a TV commercial?

  • @lasuvidaboy
    @lasuvidaboy 15 лет назад +1

Mileage was'nt that bad. In town it would get around 10 mpg and on the highway around 17 mpg. About the same as a BMW 7-series convertible today:)

This was a great Cold War era Ford Motor Co. marketing piece to orient its Lincoln - Mercury dealers' sales staffs to the redesigned 66 Lincoln. I wonder how they explained the rear view mirror which disappeared from scene to scene!

  • @chg657

These WERE superlative cars. They were incredibly well built, a good example is still likely to be rattle-free today. A LOT of the stuff on cars today wasn't availabe at any price on cars then-an A/C was a Big Deal, so was an AM/FM radio. Disc brakes were STD on Lincolns that year. The reason they had such lousy mileage is that big 462 was pulling around 5400 lbs in the convertible-and they were capable of almost 130.100 was no problem at all-they felt like they'd run forever.

The Mark III had only the 460 engine, not the 462 which was simply the earlier 430 bored out. AC became common in the late 50s on most luxury cars and was an option even in Lower priced sedans. By 1968, the first year of this Mark series, AC was very refined and was even available in a very well functioning Automatic Climate control. I have owned 4 of these beauties and it is truly one of Fords last GREAT cars.

You've a disposable razor blades? Well here's disposable cars! lol. I doubt any of these new cars will want to be saved in the later years. Except one modern car that I think will be a collectors item is the
'05-'06 Subaru Tribeca, since it was redesigned quickly because they the cool Alfa Romeo/Studebaker styled grill scared people away so the latest models have been toned down to the typical boring look. So the origional should be worth some money in 40 years.

Not ugly. You want ugly, try '58-60.
But I agree partly. LATE '70s Lincolns - esp. my Town Cars - were incredibly handsome and distinguished.
Early '70s, however, were dull and mundane - although the Marks were OK (Mark III - GREAT).

4x4's r iritating because they r offroad vehicles used on road and never will see the dirt but these r bif luxurious barges and after all if I never use air travel cant I use my carbon quota by driving a gas guzzler?
bear in mind that 30% of carbon footprint of car is manufacture so keeping an old car offsets this and with LPG kits they can still be OK.
Also the whole climate change thing is a money making exercise to sell otherwise useless technologies.
