Some people are great watercolor artists. Some are great teachers. But it's rare for someone to be both. You are both. You are more than great, you are wonderful & talented. I'm learning so much from your videos. I don't know that there were such comprehensive videos to help me learn more & improve my watercoloring. Thank you for your time to share your knowledge with us. It's greatly appreciated.
No complete beginner but I had never heard about putting water on the pallet before you put color on I always just paint straight on the pallet and then added water. I can see where this would work a lot better! Thank you for the great tips!
You are the best teacher for me your technique are so easy to follow. I watch your videos almost and learn so much from them. Watercolour is my favourite medium. Thanks ♥️ again
So agree with others! Your explanations and demonstrations are so clear and understandable! I love that you give examples after your explanations. Thank you!
This video and Louise's Sept. 25th video (techniques using that beautiful hydrangea painting) are exactly what we struggling watercolorists needed. You need help out there, fellow artists, you refer to these two. They literally ARE the best.
You are wonderful at teaching, concise instructions that make sense. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Are the fires out that were near you now? I don't know you but I've been worried about you since your last video when smoke could be seen outside your windows! Hope all is well.
Thank you very much Janice. No they are still not out. We need rain desperately. I filmed that stretching watercolour video on Friday. On the Monday after the fire department told us to gather what we could and leave our homes. We left for two nights not knowing what would happen. Thankfully the fire went in a different direction to our home. Others weren't so lucky. My heart goes out to them and all the wildlife that is suffering. Thank you again for thinking of us. ❤️
YOUR ART IS INCREDIBLE LOUISE. MY WATER COLOURS WERE ACCEPTED INTO THE R.H.A. IN IRELAND, BUT, I WISH I HAD A BEEN ABLE TO STUDY YOUR WORK LOUISE. IT IS EXACTLY 💯 WHAT I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO. I JUST LOVE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF WATERCOLOR AND HOW TO APPLY THE PAINT BEAUTIFUL 😍💥👍🍀
@@LouiseDeMasi The second method of dropping in a second colour, was one I hadn't seen, nor tried before. I saw you doing it on a bird painting you did. You as I remember used salt on it as well.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video. I personally like mixing on the paper and glazing unless I need blacks or grays. Then I mix on the palette. Those blackbirds were amazing. Wish I could see them in person.
Your art is amazing! I’m so glad I found your channel, you inspire me to keep pursuing watercolor! You’re use of technique to allude to texture, like tiny ‘blooms’ for smaller feathers. You are really skilled!
Thank you for your all tip videos. All are very informative. Please would you do a video about shading? For example do you use complementary colors or glaze layer by more pigment the same color. I wonder also about granulating paints, do you use them in your paintings?
Just came across your video.. i really needed to learn this for a while...thank you so very much for taking the time to teach us...really love your art!!!...can"t wait to explore your videos more!...have a great week!
Just awesome video. I've been tending to mix on the palette, but now I see how I've missed getting better results, so thank you so much for this video. All your paintings are great, but your birds are exquisite.
I hope you're safe from the fires, I noticed in a previous video you were near one and I see that NSW fires have only worsened. I recently went for two road trips from Vic to NSW along the east coast and I feel very lucky we went when we did and avoided any such danger. Even some of the places we visited have gone up in smoke... wishing you good luck during this time.
Thank you for thinking of us Lisa. It's terrible. We are ok for now but we have constant smoke haze here. Every day through Spring all of the windows of the house were closed tight and it looks like our summer is going to be the same. My heart goes out to all the people who have lost their homes and all of the wildlife that is suffering. It's tragic. We are all longing for weeks of rain. Stay safe yourself.
I am curious as to what brushes you are using here & what they are made of, (the holographic pinkish brushes, & your preferences in general.) I've only just found your channel & very much appreciate your videos! I've been teaching myself Watercolor for over a year & admire your way of explaining the techniques you use. I've been finding that beginner watercolor videos are now easier to find, but intermediate/advanced content is more difficult to locate. 💜
Thank you Louise, I love this video and the 2 lasts technics.... there results are so beautiful ... I learn many since I take yours lessons... 🙏🏻 🕊 😇 💓
Thank u so much for sharing your great tips. Glazing technique is really wonderful👍👍👍. I love those birds sounds in background 🙂I always wait for your videos. Keep posting.
Louise just came across your post, so happy I did love the way you explain your methods and for your generous sharing tips. Thank you so much, you have another subscriber. Have a lovely day.🙂❤️
Thanks again for a marvelous video. I do hope you and everyone down there are safe, thinking of you. I see you have found your palette I am behind on your videos so I shall catch up this weekend but that palette is perfect! Take care x
Thank you so much for sharing your talent and knowledge with us. I learn a lot by just watching your videos. I mostly do glazing but will surely try wet on wet too. Though I am not too confident of the results. But as they say practice makes you perfect.
Super informative the way that you described things!! Definitely subscribed!! Want to do a few bird paintings and it looks like you have some amazing videos!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Wonderful lesson Louise. What three colors did you use to make the black? I am struggling with a method. Different teachers teach different ways. I like your mixing on the paper. The colors glow.
Thanks for the tip about the yellow under painting on the leaves. I love method two best as well. Your work is stellar. Love your videos and that out-take was cute. ☺️
Do you have a tutorial for the crows? On patreon maybe? The pictures are beautiful and I would love to see you paint them. Absolutely loving your tutorials here, very inspiring, and your voice is very calming. So much appreciated.
Thank you very much. It,s really useful. You’re both talented and brilliant. Your presentation was very precise and concise. I guess being an ex- teacher makes you very professional. Your paintings are so beautiful. It,s make me wanting to cry of the beauty you’ve managed to capture. Well done and may you be blessed and successful in your undertakings. Btw you have a beautiful and sweet voice. Thank you very much again.
Hi Louise, I was wondering if you have a tutorial on this bird. Like a longer step by step? I really want to learn how to paint this because I want to paint an abalone shell. I've been looking for the right look and this bird is very close. Thanks in advance for your time. Absolutely love your videos and your beautiful paintings.
Great video Louise! 💕 The method I use the most is mixing on the palette, probably because I got used to it. I really love glazing and mixing on paper, but I'm usually scared with this last one unless it is something with little need of control like painting galaxies.
I love you tutorials and learn so much . I have serious pallet envy, the one you used in this tutorial is fabulous, the size and the way it spins foreasy access , can I ask where you found it. Regards Mandy
Thanks Mandy. I have a video here about it: ruclips.net/video/9z6L856PnNA/видео.html There's a link in the description of that video to Robax Engineering.
I discovered your videos a couple days ago and they are very helpful in giving me some techniques to try in my paintings. Have you done any videos on using a reference photo and how to use it in deciding what techniques you use in your paintings? I saw one video where you had the reference photo shown in the upper right corner and that was very helpful. Thanks for your videos great job
Thank you Bill. I refer to my reference photos in quite a few of my online classes on Patreon and Skillshare. Thank you for reminding of this. I should do a tutorial dedicated to interpreting reference photos.
This was so helpful! When you mix paints and don't rinse your brush between colors doesn't that contaminate the second pigment picked up? Especially light ones like yellow.
The crows are impressive! I will try that technique soon. I tried to do that effect for a magpie and it didn't turn out even close. haha but now that I am watching ALL your videos, I will try to do it again! By the way, you didn't mention what 3 colours you used for the black. And can I ask why don't you use directly the black colour instead of mixing it?
Thanks Louise, a very helpful and instructive video. I'm a beginner in watercolour painting and so look out for experienced and accomplished artist tutorials like this one. By the way, I love the rotating pallet, what is it?
Thanks John. I have a video about the palette here: ruclips.net/video/9z6L856PnNA/видео.html There's a link in the description of that video that takes you to Robax Engineering. Robert from Robax Engineering made it for me.
Hi Louise I use methods 2 I like the mix my colour on the paper I do a lot of experimentation . using wet on wet mostly and I liked it 2 see how the water reacts on paper and I like to leave blotches in my watercolour it makes for interesting interaction with the paper
Madam you explained very nicely the types of mixing colours with demo.

Thanks for sharing all of your tips and I love the magpie! 😍
I love wildlife and appreciate seeing how to create detail in my paintings.
I have learned so much watching your videos. I love everything about your teaching method.
Louise, I love the way you demonstrate your techniques. I have been trying to achieve luminosity and now you've shown me how. Thank you!
Enlightening watercolor method coming from an experienced wonderful painter and teacher ! Thank you Louise, l am so impressed !
How fun to mix the colors in different ways. I like that you can change the color when the painting is wet or dry ! Thank you for this great class !

Always a good day to sit with a cup of tea and learn and be reminded of techniques. Excellent post, Louise

Wet in wet is definitely the funnest way to mix,you never know what will happen.😀

If you re wet the paper before glasing, it will not lose the first layer that you just ley dry?
